Exclusive: Famed Defense Attorney Joe Tacopina on Crime Wire Investigates

Show Date: Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Crime Wire Investigates welcomes the opportunity to host famed defense attorney, Joe Tacopina, his first appearance on the show and toBlogTalk Radio. Joe Tacopina is an nationally noted defense attorney with the Law Offices of Tacopina Seigel & Turano, P.C. a Manhattan-based law firm that focuses on criminal, civil, and securities litigation.

Defense Attorney Joe Tacopina represented both the Van Der Sloots pro-bono, sternly declaring, "the days of slandering and just making statements against Jordan Van Der Sloot publicly are over.”

"Of course this isn't just any lawyer, it's Joe Tacopina. He's a high-profile defense attorney who goes wine shopping in Italy with Supreme Court Justice Scalia..."

Joe Tacipina will join Vito Colucci, Susan Murphy-Milano and Dennis Griffin as they discuss the unsolved murder of Chandra Turner and reforming the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office.

Jacque MacDonald’s  life tragically changed forever when she received a call on March 25, 1988, informing her that her daughter, Debi, had been brutally murdered in her home while Debi’s 3-year-old daughter slept nearby. After discovering the murderer had not been apprehended, Jacque began her own relentless nine-year search for her daughter’s killer; a seemly impossible undertaking driven by a resilience and determination that only a loving mother could have. Jacque knew she would find the “one person who knows” who would have the information needed to bring the killer to justice.

Also joining in the on discussion as always will be the CrimeWire consultants and experts.

Make plans to join in this fantastic assembly of crime fighters, writers, and experts at

Drew Peterson Case: Defense Plays Possum

Once again, the lead legal marshmallow roaster on the Drew Peterson  defense team continued to strike below the belt in the search by Illinois State Police Investigators for Stacy Peterson in Peoria, Illinois. The legal roaster is asking a judge to require the State to provide the investigative reports related to the downstate dig.

The State police, by the way, received one hell of a hot lead into where Stacy Peterson, in my opinion, could have been buried.  I mentioned in an earlier post, if you follow the letter written and postmarked on November 12, 2007, just 16 days after Stacy vanished, you will likely find a body. In my opinion, the letter was Peterson’s way of providing the most valuable clue but it was missed until 33 months later when State Police received a more than solid lead.

No different than the chicken wings once offered to a handful of Chicago patrons and the media from the legal marshmallow roaster, he is behaving more like a human chicken, flapping his arms and mouth demanding to know what Illinois State Police uncovered during the search. It is doubtful the judge will grant the release of the reports as it does not relate to the impending murder trial, just days away, of wife #3 Kathleen Savio.

The Herald quoted my favorite marshmallow roaster as saying "The state police finally have it right," he said. "Stacy is playing possum."

The definition of a possum according to Wikipedia:
A possum (plural form: possums) is any of about 69 small to medium-sized arboreal marsupial species native to Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi (and introduced to New Zealand and China). The name derives from their resemblance to the opossums of the Americas. The term "possum" is also used in North America as a short form of "Opossum".
Possums are quadrupedal diprotodont marsupials with long tails. The smallest possum, indeed the smallest diprotodont marsupial, is the Little Pygmy Possum with an adult head-body length of 70mm and a weight of 10g. The largest is the Bear Cuscus that may exceed 7 kg. Possums are typically nocturnal and at least partially arboreal. The various species inhabit most vegetated habitats and a few species have adjusted well to urban settings.

He should know his own brain has been playing possum a long time now. And for the record, so has any reasonable legal defense of his client.

"Shattered"

In January of 1999, Belinda Temple, 8 months pregnant, was found in the bedroom of her home, in her closet, dead of a gunshot wound. The case would remain unsolved until David Temple was arrested for her murder in 2004. On November 15, 2007 he was found guilty by a Texas jury for murdering his wife.

It comes as no surprise that Temple was having an affair with another woman during his marriage to Belinda; he married his mistress a few years after Belinda’s death and began a new life.

Many of the men whom are suspected in the murder of their wives often live several lives of lies. The identical playbook of lies and deception was used by Scott Peterson, Drew Peterson, and Bruce Beresford-Redman. To the world they present themselves as loving, concerned fathers and husbands, pillars in the community who would never swat a fly. Each of these men lived and breathed lies outside the home, each had a mistress. Although I don’t count Drew Peterson’s wife Stacy as a mistress, she was just a kid, a teenager lured by a serial predator dangling towards her a world beyond her reality, a child all of 15 years old when he met her. Two of these men, both with the last name of Peterson, never once participated in the search of their wives.

If I had the opportunity to meet and speak with Christina Raines (Drew Peterson); Heather Scott (David Temple); Joy Pierce (Bruce Beresford-Redman); I would ask them, "why they continued or began a relationship with these murderers knowing they completely erased the women with whom they were married to at the time?" They are dangerous, clever individuals capable of killing, even them, if they could no longer be controlled or wanted out of the relationship. I would ask, "was their life so meaningless that they were willing to risk it all in the name of love?"

Kathryn Casey’s new book, available for pre-order on Amazon.com and set for release on June 29, 2010, is titled “Shattered,” based on the David Temple case. It will no doubt provide a chilling account of a woman by the name of Belinda Temple, who deserved more than being erased from earth because her husband met and fell in love with another woman. The book is not just another true crime story. It is not a "story," in my opinion, because stories are not real. Kathryn Casey’s book is written about a woman who was a domestic violence victim, a woman who married a man with strong ties in the community. Family and friends refused to believe their “David” capable of such a gruesome act of violence.

"Shattered" is not just another crime book. It captures the true essence of a woman’s life torn apart by a man’s savage and inhumane rage. David Temple was a predator, planning and calculating, like others we watch or read about in the news, until the final hour of the kill. Kathryn Casey’s book is a must for cold case detectives, law enforcement, medical examiners, lawyers, social workers and victims of violence living in fear.

How To Leave and Survive Abusive and Stalking Relationships

With so many high-profile cases of missing women in the news, unsolved, suspicious deaths and cold cases where victims seeking a divorce have vanished without a trace or found murdered, I am urging everyone to speak out by spreading the word that a prescription for safety is now available. The video below is one key ingredient to a victim's safety.

I often hear women involved in domestic violence say, “I cannot leave or I'm unable to even pack a bag and sneak it to the car.” Another common problem is when a woman says, “He is constantly watching me, stalking me or he has a tracker on my computer, cell phone or vehicle.”

For most victims the fear of getting beat up or even killed by their significant other if they are caught trying to leave can be paralyzing. Most victims of domestic violence and or stalking do not realize that the person in the relationship is committing a crime. Domestic violence and stalking is against the law.

But for those fearful or unable to seek service from a domestic violence shelter provider, there is a book available that will take a victim from living in fear to a plan, with a roadmap to safety.

The abuser has a plan to control, manipulate and harm. A victim must have a plan that involves being ten steps ahead of their husband or boyfriend when they cannot call police or seek services outside the home because it could be too dangerous for the victim and her children.

Remember, the most important step a victim must do is prepare before they announce the relationship is ending. If something does happen, if you or a loved one suddenly goes missing like Stacy Peterson, Vensus Stewart, Rachel Anderson, Susan Powell, Lisa Stebic, or are found murdered like Monica Beresford-Redmond, Franki Jacobson, Renee Pagel and others, where the person responsible has gotten away with murder, the victim's voice and record of the abuse will be captured and recorded (see below). Do it for your community, friends, family and loved ones.

Do it for the children.

If you are a victim do it for you!

"Deadly Outrage Time's Four"

My stomach was in knots Wednesday- across the news wires a manhunt ensued as another piece of walking talking human garbage was being sought in the brutal and gruesome murders of 4 family members.
Laura Stone Mortimer 41, and the couple’s children, Charlotte, 2, and Thomas, 4, known as Finn, and the children’s grandma and Laura’s mother, Ragana Ellen Stone, 64 were found by police who went on a wellness check, were scattered about the residence in a crime scene of horrific magnitude.

The events that lead to the murders of these 4 innocent lives will never be accurately revealed; they never are in the majority of cases where intimate partner homicide took the lives, in this case, of an entire family.
On Thursday police captured Thomas Mortimer, alive, and took him into custody. He left 2 handwritten notes. One note was left on the kitchen counter as though he was contemplating suicide. The other note written was very matter of fact in the dining room area.

Depending on who this mass murderer secures as his defense attorney, Mortimer was clearly not mentally impaired, he was not insane, temporarily or otherwise, at the time of murders. An insane person does not plan out the murders down to how, when and where. An insane person cannot disassociate themselves from anger and rage. At all times an abuser is in control and it is virtually impossible  to prove that otherwise.

Earlier in the day, on and off, Mortimer and his wife argued. When you have worked on these cases for over 20 years it is easy to see what happened. The words “It is over or I have had enough” come out with conviction from a women who is no longer going to allow being abused either emotional or physically. Given this woman’s position in the community, often quoted in magazines and business journals, police were never called to the home prior to Wednesday.
For women like Laura that I see and assist, all too often the shear embarrassment of what is going on behind closed doors is exactly where they want to keep it hidden, from the outside world. They believe they can take care of this often deadly problem themselves. But without the prescription for safety, the plan that includes the evidentiary abuse document and video, and techniques on how to disarm potential threats provided in the book "Time’s UP," we can expect others to lose their lives in battle just as Laura, her mother and children did.

Sadly for Laura, her own mother and children, they join the ever growing list of lives lost in the home, on the battlefield, by an angry spouse, controlling and obsessive spouse.

I hope as she enters heavens gates that my mother is the angel assigned to greet Laura and her children. Just as I work to save, what I term the “Silent Mary Jo’s” (as was Laura), on earth, working to keep women and children alive, I imagine my mother, who lost her life on the battlefield, is helping those who journey into the heavens that did not have the opportunity to escape. My mother is happily baking her famous cherry cake smiling and singing some corny song as she awaits to greet those, like her, whom I was unable to reach in time.
It is better to be a safe and alive "Mary Jo" than "a dead Jane Doe.

Been there, done that…” Susan Murphy- Milano has turned a tired phrase into demonstrable realism through the gift of her newly published book, "TIME'S UP: A GUIDE ON HOW TO LEAVE AND SURVIVE ABUSIVE AND STALKING RELATIONSHIPS

Peterson Case: "Dancing With Possums"

“Two Possum families finally have closure” quoted by none other than my favorite "legal marshmallow roaster" leading the 5 person defense team in the upcoming Drew Peterson trial, in an article about the recent search in Peoria, Illinois, written by Fatal Vows Author and journalist Joe Hosey.
If you recall, both Peterson and his legal marshmallow roaster did a public relations dance in the media when the so called letter was received claiming Stacy Peterson was “sited.” And I mentioned it in a post back in February of 2008 excerpt below:

Stacy Peterson, wife #4 is still missing. I am wondering why the Illinois State police are not seeing through on the letter Peterson says he received from an unknown person from Peoria, Illinois back in November 12, 2007 who says they spotted "Stacy Peterson at a Kroger grocery store with a pudge." I will bet you anything Drew Peterson is behind this mysterious letter. An abuser always wants to leave a crumb behind ( its a catch me if you can ego trip)and in my opinion this mystery letter, is no mystery at all , if it's postmarked, this should lead police to where Stacy was buried. Isn't Drew's favorite show C.S.I. anyway? Or was this done by someone else in an old case he once worked on in the early days of his career? You can read that post HERE
It was discussed on my Monday Evening radio show that aired on the Kathleen Savio case with the Cold Case Institute Director, Sheryl McCullom ,who strongly suggested that the “prosecutors need to tear down the case and start over.” We both agreed Peterson was likely behind that letter he supposedly received shortly after Stacy vanished. I meant the one Peterson turned over, of course, to his counsel who then made it public for several weeks of play in the media.

While the legal marshmallow roaster and his team decides what color fonts they want on that impending Google Internet site, sending a team to Peoria was a brilliant move on the part of Investigators.
If you consider that during the 18 months (prior to his arrest) Peterson was a free man, not once did this piece of repulsive hot air bag go out and look for his missing wife, Stacy. A person, in my opinion of course, is not able to look for something, or in this case, someone, if they are not able to be found because it is not possible. If you remember, this grieving husband and father, (get out the box of Kleenex everyone), dated other women, trolled Internet sites and got engaged. Wow, now there is a reality television show in the making. Perhaps we can ask Bruce Beresford-Redman (former producer of the show Survivor) to be the producer. You remember him, he is the guy who took his wife on a second honeymoon to Mexico and she was found dead in a sewage drain.

Back to the insensitive remarks of the legal marshmallow roaster who has been known to spit out coffee on a computer screen from time to time. "For those two possum families, they at least received closure." Sadly, it is more than the 4 children of these two women Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson received, wouldn’t you agree?

Unearthing The Truth in Suspicious Death, Murder and Billy's Law:The Susan Murphy Milano Show Live June 16, 2010 at 4:00 PM EST and 3:00 PM Central

Our guests today on the show are: Janice Smolinski, whose son, Billy has been missing under suspicious circumstances since August 24, 2004. If ever there was a missing person’s case where everything could go wrong, it did for the Smolinskis. From a police department who was reluctant to take a report, to losing precious DNA evidence several times, to Jan herself being arrested, fingerprinted with a mugshot, and sued. All of these circumstances did not sway her from her faith and her hope that Billy will be found and justice will be served. Her son's disappearance led her to knock on the doors of her Congressmen and with her determination and the help of Congressman Chris Murphy, The Help Find The Missing Act (Billy's Law) was introduced. http://justice4billy.com/

Monica Caison , the Founder of Community United Effort, known as CUE Center for Missing Persons based in Wilmington, NC. A not for profit agency that has successfully located skeletal remains of missing loved ones, advocated for families for over 20 years. Each year CUE Center sponsors a National Conference for the family members of missing persons as well as an annual awareness campaign, The Road to Remember Tour which allows many missing persons cases to be featured on local and national media. All of the details are on their website http://www.cuecenter.org/

Kathleen Savio and Intimate Partner Police Officer Homicide

Kathleen Savio was a wife, mother, and a victim of "Intimate Partner Homicide" by a law enforcement officer. Her ex-husband, Drew Peterson, stands trial for her murder next month.
From the moment her body was discovered in a "dry bathtub" an impossibility, in my opinion, her death has been trumped in the media by a serial offender whom if Stacy Peterson had not gone missing, the murder of this woman would have remained an accidental death.
A powerful hour was broadcast yesterday on this case with special guests Sheryl McCullom of the Cold Case Institute and Al Dressler of Colucci Investigations.
If you missed it all you need to do is turn up the volume on your computer and it will automatically play. Or you can always download the program by going to podcast list on this site or at www.blogtalkradio.com/susanmurphymilano

As the trial approaches we all need to lend our support and voice to a woman and mother murdered in my opinion by one man's rage who practiced on Kathleen Savio and perfected his crime on Stacy Peterson.

If you have a moment please head over to the Time's Up Blog and read Today's article about "My Cry For Help" I hope you will lend your support for victims and their families of violence and spread the message of the only "presciption" on the market available now that is changing and saving lives.

Crime Wire Live Tuesday June 15, 2010 at 9:00 PM EST and 8:00 PM Central

The Crime Wire team, Vito Colucci Jr., Private Eye and author, Denny Griffin, retired Investigator and Author, and Susan Murphy Milano, Violence Expert and Author are there-- On top of the crime -- at the top of their game.
Our guests for a power packed hour will be:

Tricia Griffith, owner of Websleuths, the Internet site that brings crime cases in the news and public eye long after the media has forgotten they need to be solved!

Famed Defense Attorney Mickey Sherman will be on the hot seat tonight discussing what else; defending the thugs, rapists and cold blooded killers.

This case involves one of those rather rare instances in which murder charges were brought and convictions attained when the victim’s remains had not been found. It is also somewhat unique in that the victim was a powerful organized crime figure. William “Wild Bill” Cutolo was the underboss of New York City’s Colombo crime family. His disappearance and presumed murder in 1999 caused his son to turn from a life of crime to become a cooperating government witness, whose work with law enforcement helped to bring about the arrests and convictions of his father’s killers in 2007

Janice Smolinski will discuss The Help Find the Missing Act (Billy’s Law) for families because it is one of the most important national pieces of legislation that will benefit the families of missing persons. With a grass roots effort started by the mother of missing Billy Smolinski, Janice Smolinski lives the nightmare shared with thousands across the country and millions worldwide. She has worked non-stop through the process of our government to bring this change for all.

President of Imagine Publicity, “Delilah,” creator of the crime suvivors and victim's rights blog "Time'sUp",she stands, supports and spreads important awareness on many issues, including missing persons, domestic violence, mothers without custody, human trafficking, self-defense, and victim’s rights.

Al Dressler Technology Expert and Crime Wire consultant will also weigh in on the rapid pace of technology in criminal cases.

Time: 9:00 PM EST 8:00 PM CST 6:00 PM PST

The number to call in with questions or comments is 1-646-478-0982

We profile a variety of cases each week, including cold cases, suspicious deaths, and current solved and unsolved murders.

Bruce Beresford Redmond: An Expert At Packaging Murder?

Eleven days have passed since the Mexican authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of Bruce Beresford-Redmond for the murder of his wife, Monica, back in April. It doesn't appear that this walking, talking, alledged murderer will be taken into custody anytime soon. Think how easy it was for him to leave Mexico and return to the United States even though his passport had been taken from him so he could not leave the country.

If there is anyone who qualifies as a flight risk it is Beresford-Redmond.

I had an idea! Maybe the televison executives who purchased Bruce's new reality program after the murder of his wife :"Shedding For The Wedding" would consider donating a portion of the proceeds to victims of intimate partner homicide instead of funding (in my opinion) this piece of human garbage's legal defense fund.
If an abuser walks and talks like a duck, guess what folks he is one!

And the laws in Mexico are complicated and unique:

Mexican Federal law is based on the Napoleonic Code. There is no presumption of innocence, no jury trial, and traditional common law and statutory rules of evidence don’t apply. All trials are conducted by affidavit or declaration and witnesses rarely, if ever, testify in open court. Victims and their families have no practical ability to witness the trial or be heard at sentencing which is controlled by the Mexican Federal Penal Code. Although the maximum sentence in Mexico is a term of sixty years for murder, a sentence can, and frequently is, reduced through the appellate process or the “Amparo” which is the rough equivalent to our habeas proceedings.

Although efforts are currently underway to address the wide-spread corruption which has historically plagued Mexican judicial and law enforcement communities, little is known about the results of Article IV prosecutions previously submitted. Often warrants remain in their system, unserved, for years. Prosecutions are commenced and then dismissed or sentences substantially reduced in the appellate courts. No verifiable system exists to track actual sentences served or to create a criminal database.

Here is the classic textbook statement of denial from a "model" husband and father claiming any wrong doing in the murder of their wife or girlfriend. Maybe we should start manufacturing "abuser vomit bags" after each murder of an innocent life lost as a result of domestic violence?
Beresford-Redmond released the following statement through his attorney on May 31, 2010:

"Monica was the axis around which our whole family revolved. From her sisters and parents to my parents and of course to our children and me, she was everything to us.

I am devastated at her loss; and I am incensed at the suggestion that I could have had anything to do with her death. I am innocent. My children have had one parent taken from them by a senseless act of violence. I implore the Mexican authorities not to take their remaining parent by a miscarriage of justice and to do what is right not just what is expedient.

Attorney Richard Hirsch suggested Monica's murder might be connected to several other killings that have occurred in the Cancun resort area. He released a statement of his own on Monday:

We have been advised that Mexican authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Bruce Beresford-Redman in connection with the murder of his wife, Monica. This news, if true, is extremely disturbing since it appears that this case is being handled in a manner outside the normal procedures in Mexico.

It is our understanding that the issuance of an arrest warrant normally entails a detailed judicial review that takes anywhere from several weeks to several months. It appears that the way this matter is being handled constitutes a rush to judgment. Mr. Beresford-Redman is innocent of this crime and is prepared to defend himself in a court of law."

Monica Beresford-Redmond deserves her day in court too! It is called Justice!

Singer Chris Brown Denied Singing For His Supper

It seems that Chris Brown will not be able to sing for his super anytime soon in Europe. The convicted felon was turned down on his Visa application and denied access into the United Kingdom.

According to a statement released by officials:

"We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense. Public safety is one of our primary concerns."

Maybe Chris Brown thought European's don't read the news too closely in the States or are more forgiving of cowardly men who beat women within an inch of their lives?

If you recall, back in February 2009, while he was driving, the couple had more than a heated exchange of words. Chris Brown took his anger and rage and beat singer Rihanna bloody with his bare fists. Brown continued by shoving her head against the passenger window the car. This piece of human garbage bit her left ear (only an animal does that) and, in abuser style, Brown continued to beat "the love of his life throughout her body and then placed her in a head lock while he continued driving his car.

Does this sound like words to a song?

"I'm going to beat the shit out of you when we get home! You wait and see!"
"You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!" Words and music to live and almost die by-
-Chris Brown, singer convicted felon and coward

Do these pictures of the beating Rihanna sustained look like a CD cover to you?

No one can take away the incredible talent of Chris Brown as a performer and actor, and this is not about selling records or being able to sell tickets at concerts. It is about a serious criminal act of violence.

During the Chris Brown's interview on Larry King last year with his mother and attorney Mark Geragos by his side, I did not hear one sentence acknowledging what he did as a crime. With attitude, it was more about "hey I got caught", "I turned myself in," "I can influence the community," and my favorite abuser line " this is a private matter." No! Mr. Brown, this is not a private matter where you almost kill another human being and get away with it. It is a crime! Chris Brown's words sounded as if he had an accident in his boxer's and need to change into a clean pair.

Domestic violence  takes places 365 days a year, 7 days a week. This initial story only broke because it was between two celebrities.

Although we in the United States are willing to easily forgive and forget when someone of notarity commits a horriffic criminal act of violence against another human being, the U.K. showed us didn't they? They showed us it does not matter how popular or famous a person you are or how much revenue you can generate. If you are Joe the singing waiter or Chris the singer, you ain't singing for your supper on their soil!

"Abracadabra"

"Abracadabra" is commonly used as an incantation by stage magicians and their imitators. If you stop and think about it controlling and violent abusers do the same thing when their wives and girlfriends with whom they have lost control, suddenly vanish.

An abuser is similar to a magician, only their stage is behind closed doors. There are far too many imitators to list but they each appear to follow the same pattern. It varies from case to case, but in the end the magic act is identical. The women always vanish and usually without a trace.

More often than not, the abuser magician does not report the mother of his children or soon to be ex-wife missing. That responsible usually falls on a concerned family member. When Illinois mother and wife Lisa Stebic simply vanished did Craig Stebic contact police or was it her family? How about when Stacy Peterson disappeared? Who made out the police report? When Susan Powell of Utah went missing (more like erased from the planet) wasn’t it her family that contacted authorities? How about Tabitha Franklin, Rachel Conger, Rachel Anderson, Renee Pernice, Star Boomer, Jana Morton, Carrie Ann Monroe, Theresa Parker, Vensus Stewart, Liza Murphy or Pamela Knight. There is not enough space to list the thousands of victims of violence labeled in some detective's desk drawer or filing cabinet across the country, as the person responsible, in my opinion, plays a clever game of catch me if you can. “ I didn’t do it”. “I have no idea where they could be, we are doing everything to help police find her. But really, does anyone ever see these abusers go out on searches and look for their wives or girlfriends?

My favorite response to these “abuser magicians” who, in my opinion, commit murder, is when they retain an attorney. All you hear their legal representative say is, “my client is innocent” or “the police are only speculating at this point” or “no comment.” With the exception of one defense lawyer, who likely has his bald head shined and polished for the cameras at least once a day, if not twice, depending on how much spin he can make out of his famous dick less wonder of a serial abuser client whom is about to stand trial for murder; then you can expect a real magical act to appear in full costume in the courtroom and before the cameras.

These cases have, for the most part, turned into a tragic magical circus act with innocent lives hijacked, set briefly on a world stage, until the following day when another magician tries their hand at successfully making the mother of their children, and or wife, vanish without a trace.

If you or a loved one are preparing to leave an abusive relationship or are being stalked, please consider the importance pf creating the “Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" and video. It is a sworn statement detailing the facts of an individual’s victimization, preserving the specifics so they are not lost, even if the victim is. It's difficult to think about speaking from the grave, but no different than any life insurance policy or living will obtained in consideration for those left behind in cases of domestic violence and stalking related crimes. [Below is the example for you to follow to create the document in the event you suddenly vanish or go missing]

Karen Rae Elkin's Fishing Up Stream

"It is a silly fish that is caught twice with the same bait' yet for victims of domestic violence and stalking they are often caught with the same disguised stink of invisible sweetness by a repeated abuser who casts the same line- using the same bait. The sweet talk, courting you in the early stages of a relationship as though they are running for the higest office in the land. And hey isn''t that the truth! A repeated abuser has only one goal, they seek and they prey on their target. If you are not careful it can tragically end up costing a victim in a violent relationship their life.

Karen Rae Elkins is a world class professional women's angler. She has fished and competed in tournaments on waters and rivers across the county.

Karen is also a success survivor. Yesterday she celebrated her one year and now a day victory. On an article she wrote at the Time's Up Blog (for crime survivors) she says:

"I can't pinpoint the day I let someone abuse me but I remember the day I left. His words were calculated and well rehearsed. My bags and tackle were still in the car. I had driven home from a fishing event in Dallas, Tx. I went to the kitchen to get a bite to eat and he said, "If you are going to continue to fish, we need to make other arrangements." Tears filled my eyes as I thought of a life without fishing. My first thought was, "please don't make me quit." and then it came to me. "just leave". The words I used were much more colorful but not meant for print. I left and I never turned back."

Once you leave, as Karen states with a firm conviction "never turn back." And yet for too many victims in this battlefield of violence and bloodshed within the home allow the abuser to tug at their emtions like a fishing line as if being reeled back. The hook is that old smile you remember when the two of you first dated. The attention and sweet intimacy you once shared, baited on the hook and you fall for it. Believing they have changed. Believing they love you. Believing they will go to counseling. Believing you can work through this with them. Believeing they will never hurt you, ever again.

If you do nothing else take a moment and read the words of Karen Rae Elkins a woman with a teflon coat of armor and a heart and soul created and lead by God's hand Here at Time's Up.

Afterwards, review the video below of the Evidentuary Abuse document and video. Then take action. Cut the line on the pole. You are no longer the bait. You will not and can no longer be reeled back into the abuser's clever manipulation. Prepare the document and video. If you need further direction, email me at murphymilano@gmail.com

When I found this quote it made me think of Karen Rae Elkins. And in honor of her success it is appropriate that I end with these words:

For angling-rod he took a sturdy oak;
For line, a cable that in storm ne'er broke;
His hook was such as heads the end of pole
To pluck down house ere fire consumes it whole;
This hook was bated with a dragon's tail,--
And then on rock he stood to bob for whale - Sir William D'Avenant
