Last year the Crime Wire Team shined a light onto the plight of families dealing with the corruption and ineptitude of the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office. Several families seeking justice for their deceased loved ones banded together, along with Oklahoma City attorney, Jaye Mendros, and formed Justice For The Dead to publicize the need for reform. Out of that union The Chanda Turner Act came into being, and after a long battle through the Oklahoma legislature, it has been signed by the Governor.
The Crime Wire Team welcomes the parents of Chanda Turner, Joe and Donna Turner, the parents of Kristina Rivera-Hill, Sam and Michele Speziale, and attorney, Jaye Mendros to give our listeners an update on what this means to all of the families in Oklahoma waiting years for justice denied.
For information on these two families as well as many other Oklahoma families, please visit the website,Justice for the Dead.

Over five decades, the murder of wealthy produce merchant Joseph DiMare — shot in the head in his white Cadillac in North Miami on March 24th 1961 — has faded into obscurity amid South Florida’s rich crime lore.
But one man won’t let it go. To Richard DiMare, the victim’s 69-year-old son, the murder probe is a cause championed only by him. For the better part of the past three decades, he has flooded police, prosecutors and politicians with angry letters demanding justice.
Our guest, Richard DiMare will highlight this 50 year fight for justice for his father.
Passage of The Chanda Turner Bill in OklahomaLittle did Donna and Joe Turner realize that justice for the death of their daughter would be such a long road. Chanda Turner was shot in her home on July 12, 2000 and her death was originally ruled a suicide. Despite repeated requests, the family was denied an autopsy for almost 10 years. Knowing they would never give up fighting to get justice for their daughter, her parents buried her in a sealed casket inside a sealed crypt to preserve her body for the day when they could finally get an autopsy.
Since that time the Turners have been fighting, along with several other families, for reform of a Medical Examiner's Office in which appeals for change were not granted. Attorney Jaye Mendros of Oklahoma City was retained to help these families make changes necessary to give them the opportunity to have a legal mechanism to correct all the mistakes in their cases. The Chanda Turner Bill has gone through all the necessary judicial steps, now they await the final step. The will update the team on their journey for justice!

CHANDA TURNER was shot to death at her home in Paul's Valley on July 12, 2000. Her boyfriend claimed she shot herself while he slept through the sound of gunfire, then found her outside on the backsteps after she was dead. Crime scene photos depict blood throughout the inside of the home, including on the mattress he claimed he was asleep on. The mattress had been stripped of sheets; no one asked where they went. There were more signs of clean-up in the bedroom, including a bottle of cleaning solution on the floor. The boyfriend had fresh scratches on his arms, and Chanda was covered in bruises. There were signs of a struggle in the livingroom, including broken furniture. The medical examiners officer ruled the murder a suicide.

After his arrest, Gary was found hanging in his cell, ruled a suicide. However, Donna Edwards and her husband Gary, Sr., weren’t convinced that their son had taken his own life. Joining us to examine yet another case botched by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office on the case is Gary’s mother, Donna Edwards. This is our continuing series on reforming the Oklahoma office.
