A Stephen King Reality Plays Out in Ohio Morgue

Kenneth Douglas, left, was indicted today for gross abuse of a corpse. David Steffen, right, is on Ohio's Death Row for killing Karen Range in 1982.

This could be a novel from one of Stephen Kings books, it is not. Often, truth is stranger then the story line.
For the family of Karen Range, murdered in 1982, new, front page blood chilling headlines, set the family back to relive the tragedy.

A former Hamilton County Morgue employee is held on $700,000 cash bond, accused of having sex with a corpse while on the job some 25 years ago. 55 year old Kenneth Douglas faces a charge of gross abuse of a corpse.

Prosecutors said they believe Douglas had other victims and they are investigating more cases. Judge Mallory set Douglas's bond at $700,000 cash. His charges date back to August of 1982, when door-to-door salesman David Steffen killed Karen Range, 19, at her Roselawn home.

Steffen confessed to the murder but denied raping Range. He was sent to Ohio's death row.
Douglas was in charge of checking Range's body into the morgue and prosecutors allege that duty gave Douglas the opportunity to have sex with Range's body
It wasn't until the now 55-year-old Douglas was arrested in March on drug charges that a DNA sample was taken, and linked him to the semen in Range's body. He is now charged with gross abuse of a corpse and faces 12 months in prison if he's convicted. Prosecutor Joe Deters is investigating to see whether there are other victims.

According to News 12 in Ohio, Hamilton County Coroner O'dell Owens held a news conference on the case. Owens say that although the incident happened many years before he took office, when he heard the allegations, "I nearly fell to the ground. That's the worst thing that can happen in a coroner's office."
Owens says currently, all morgue employees are required to give a DNA sample and that there are more strigent security measures in place to prevent such acts. Cameras now record all interaction between morgue employees and bodies.
Owens says he's been told Douglas left his job with the morgue abruptly, and later worked at the Jamison and Jamison Funeral Home in the West End. He also says his office has received phone calls from concerned families, some of which expressed an interest in suing the coroner's office.Having sex with a corpse is clinically called necrophilia. It's considered a mental disorder that can be treated but never cured.
This is an act that is viewed as repulsive and offensive. The desire to have sex with a corpse is almost impossible to understand.Necrophiliacs often get their first sexual urges as pre-teens, and it can become an obsession.
"What they will do, put themselves in a position to have sex with people who can't resist," said Dr. Scott Bresler, UC Division of Forensic Psychiatry. "This is one form of that. A dead person certainly can't resist."
Dr. Bresler describes necrophilia as a severe sexual fetish, but it's not just about sex, it leads to an imagined relationship.
"They can go into their mind and fantasize whatever they want in a very bizarre, obviously, way."It's all in their mind," said Dr. Stuart Bassman, psychologist. "To some extent, it's the same way with pornography. The person in their mind, imagined fantasy relationships."Dr. Bassman has treated necrophiliacs, and says in their mind, it's a loving act. Hard to understand, yes, but that could mean Karen Range's rapist didn't intend to hurt her.
"In their mind, they believe they're doing something very innocent," said Dr. Bassman. "Something that's not really hurting someone."
Kenneth Douglas worked at the coroner's office for 16 years (1976 to 1992). It could have been the opportunity he needed to act on his desire.
And it could have been an obsession. Dr. Bassman says necrophiliacs often have more than one victim.
"In terms of how many victims, most people can act out with a wide assortment of people."
So how does someone become a necrophiliac? Dr. Bassman says it's a product of genetics and their environment. They often suffer from feelings of abandonment, and typically one major event in their life activates those bizarre feelings.
The necrophilia accusations raise new questions about David Steffen's death sentence for Range's murder.
Under Ohio law, a defendant is eligible for the death penalty in murder cases combined with another conviction like robbery, rape, or burglary.
Attorney Mark Krumbein says Steffen's lawyers could argue that his jury should have never heard evidence about Range being raped, and the DNA is new evidence.
"In the early eighties there was no DNA testing," said Krumbein. The first murder in Hamilton County that used DNA testing was in 1988. That was my own case, so before that there was no DNA testing on murders in this county."

Deters says the new evidence shouldn't affect Steffen's death sentence. He says although Steffen may not have raped range, he did admit to attempted rape.

"Another Home Sweet Home Murder"

Crime scene investigators examine the pool area at the rear of the Roseboro home on 7/25/08.

Jan Roseboro, 45, the mother of four children was found murdered in the families fenced in pool.
No signs of a break-in?
No signs of a struggle?
But, wait there was a cleaning agent used near the pool to clean up her blood!

It should come as no surprise that her husband was "Sleeping" and he found her in the pool, and immediately, contacted 911.

"Detectives who interviewed Michael Roseboro ( the murder victim's husband) noticed that he had multiple scratches near his mouth and a very fresh cut on his left hand, according to police."
Authories on this homicide investigation are to be praised for excellent police work. They have wasted no time in securing search warrants and collecting important evidence.
No suspect has been arrested or yet to be named in the murder of Jan Roseboro.

Burnt Breakfast Anyone?

Early this morning I heard on a Chicago radio station my favorite

"Camp Legal Marshmallow Roaster"

serving folks around the country Drew Peterson burnt breakfast special claiming
his client is being"Tortured by Cops" and this is very "Damaging to the Peterson Children".
It was obvious the lawyer read the post "No More Sweet Dreams" over at Women in Crime Ink.

I hope Kristopher and Thomas Peterson take the advice offered.

So long as they don't change their last name to "Brodsky" they should be fine

Escaped Prisioner "Spam King" Slaughter's Enitre Family

Convicted "Spammer"( Edward Davidson pictured above)

The bodies of "Spam King" Edward "Eddie" Davidson, his wife, and 3-year-old daughter were found in an SUV parked in a farmhouse driveway in a rural part of Bennett, about 25 miles east of Denver.

It is not surpising that officals have not indicated how Davidson escaped from a federal prision.

Hopefully, heads will role for this bloody and tragic error.
"What a nightmare, and such a coward," U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said. "Davidson imposed the 'death penalty' on family members for his own crime."

Authorities had been searching for them since Sunday, when the couple drove away from a minimum-security federal prison in Florence, 90 miles south of Denver.
Eid said that after Davidson escaped, he drove to the Denver suburb of Lakewood and got a change of clothes and cash. The house where the shooting occurred was not where the Davidsons lived, Campbell said.

Davidson, 35, was sentenced in April to 21 months in prison and ordered to pay $714,139 in restitution to the IRS after pleading guilty to falsifying header information to send spam e-mail, tax evasion and criminal forfeiture.
Campbell said deputies rushed to the farmhouse after receiving reports of shots fired. They found Davidson on the driver's side of the SUV and a woman dead on the passenger side. A girl was found dead in the back of the car, and a 7- or 8-month-old boy was in a car seat uninjured.

Campbell said a teenage girl who was shot in the neck ran to a neighbor's house for help and has been hospitalized. He said the girl had serious injuries, but was coherent and talking when taken to the hospital.
Prosecutors said that from 2002 to 2005, Davidson's business, Power Promoters, and his subcontractors would spam people's inboxes with e-mails promoting items such as watches and perfume.

From 2005 through part of 2006, Davidson sent thousands of e-mails from his home in Bennett, sometimes with false information, on behalf of a Houston company promoting a penny stock as an excellent investment, according to a plea agreement. His bank account deposits from 2003 to 2006 totaled $3.5 million, the plea agreement said.
Prosecutors said they also found about $380,000 that he had stashed in his girlfriend's bank account over three years, and purchases totaling $418,000 from a company that sells gold, platinum, palladium and silver coins.

Federal Prosecutors did not identify the girlfriend in court documents. When Davidson was sentenced, U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger noted it was Davidson's first serious conviction, and that he was supporting three children, which documents did not identify.

Davidson had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A condition of his sentence was that he undergo mental health counseling

Demanding Justice

Wendy Thibeault

She was loved by so many in her community. Her death would devastate residents in the small town located in Cortland County, not far from Syracuse, New York.

Wendy Thibeault was a kind gentle woman, yet hated by one person so enraged that on Memorial Day, Charles Randy Thibeault, strangled her to death.

Wendy endured years of abuse. Gathering all her strength, filing for an order of protection in April of 2008, seeking legal assitance to end the abuse and marriage was not enough, as in many cases of a violent partner relationships.

On July, 17, 2008, Cortland County District Attorney David Hartnett, announced the formal indictment for Randy Thibeault.

Is the legal system in Cortland County able to find a jury who will be able to carry out justice against one of their own long-time residents?

If they do not convict Charles Randy Thibeault, for the murder of his wife, then they too, will be just as guilty in the strangulation death of Wendy.

Domestic Violence is a crime. Wendy Thibeault, was forced to join a bloody club whose membership across the country, grows in numbers with lightening speed.

"Coward Killer"

A fire storm of unanswered questions swirls around the tragic murder of Nancy Cooper.

The thirty-four year of mother of two was last seen early the morning of July 12, 2008, heading out for a morning jog. Not far from her home in Cary, North Carolina, just 18 blocks away, Nancy's body was discovered floating in a pond.

The promise to love honor and protect was broken the moment Bradley Cooper began his affair with another woman. He is not someone who is likely to be truthful about anything.

But, having an affair does not make someone a killer.

I do find it odd that this mindless cowardly wonder did not attend the press conference today with the family.

Yesterday, a Judge granted temporary custody to the maternal grandparents of their grandchildren, it was a relief. During this time with reporters and police surrounding the home at all hours, the children need time in a stable environment to grieve. In my opinion this should occur in all high profile cases. Especially, when a spouse goes missing or their body discovered.

We are seeing an epidemic in this country. A group of "cowardly killers" who do not have enough guts to either walk out of a marriage or pull the trigger to their own heads.

Officer Arrested For Rape Doesn't Smile for the Camera

(Deputy Jason Anthony Bill)

Today, Atlanta Deputy Bill was charged with rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment and battery.

According to the police report a woman was yanked out of a bar and forcibly taken against her will. She was handcuffed and tied up. The cowardly tin badge Deputy took her to an apartment and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. She was able to escape, contact police and was treated at a local hospital.

When the arrest was made, Deputy Bill was immediately fired. Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren released a statement Tuesday that said, "It was with a profound sense of outrage and betrayal that I learned of the actions and subsequent charges lodged against Deputy Jason Bill. This type of conduct is reprehensible under any circumstances but even more so when committed by a law enforcement officer. I have no tolerance for misconduct by anyone sworn to uphold the law and, as a result, have immediately terminated Jason Bill’s employment with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office."

Sheriff's Entire Statement On Jason Bill's Arrest.

Atlanta Deputy Submits to DNA in Wife's Murder

(Home where Linda Yancey was murdered)
Atlanta-It has been more than a month now since the murder of Linda Yancey. Her Deputy husband, Derrick Yancey has claimed she was shot by an intruder. Then the intruder who Derrick Yancey hired to perform landscaping at this home claimed that is who shot his wife. And Yancey's claims to have shot him.

Finally, a bit of movement in the case. Derrick Yancey submitted to DNA testing.

Interesting comments from an earlier post on the case. One of the comments said:

"Derrick was going to prevent Linda leaving anywat possible. When he first learned

of her plans to end the marriage and file for divorce he went absolutely nuts. "

I would suggest if anyone has any information they should contact the authorities. You can always call and leave a tip without using your name. Or if you have any supporting evidence, please provide it to the proper authorities.

It is important to wait until the police conclude their investigation.

My opinion on the case stands. It smells foul!

Bloody Outcome on the Road to Safety

On May 5, 2008, Adelina Weber went to a court house in Illinois petitioning a judge for an order of protection. Adelina could no longer endure her husband Clarence Weber's violent outbursts, physical abuse and threats of serious injury. She was issued the protection order that day.

With the protection order in place, Adelina Weber felt fairly secure in knowing she would be protected. The following day Adelina returned to the home to gather items needed with family members and a police escort. In large letters on the kitchen wall he wrote "Now Everything is Going to End". A clear violation of the order of protection. Writing these words should have resulted in an arrest per the Illinois domestic violence law, it did not. Police laughed it off, taking no action.

Clarence continued to stalk Adelina and send threatening notes. Another violation that did not result in an arrest. On May 27, 2008, a fire was reported in the couple's home. According to officials it was arson, likely set by Clarence. Police did not investigate.

This was not the first time Weber had been in trouble for abuse. In 1989, he was sent to prison in Florida where he served six years for attempted murder with his first wife.

Police knew they were not dealing with a boy scout and yet, Clarence Weber's criminal history was dismissed as "no big deal".

Adelina Weber, 31, mother of three had just finished her shift at work when she was brutally stabbed and attacked in the parking lot. She made it to the lobby of a hotel, where she collapsed and died.
On July 10, 2008, the family filed a lawsuit. The complaint alleges the police department took no action to investigate her husband or protect her, the release said. The complaint claims police had a duty to arrest Clarence Weber upon learning of a violation of the protection order and to arrange for Adelina's transportation to a safe place under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act.
Adelina follwed the "prescribed procedures" in ending her violent relationship. And yet, she lost her life anyway.
Explain that to her children!

Police Officer Ken Dekleine- Power-Control-Murder

Officer Ken DeKleine (before arrest)

Ken DeKleine at trial with his Lawyer
Mistress Richelle VanderWal
Murder Victim and Mother Lori DeKleine

"Think about the children" were the final words from Lori DeKleine's lips just before her estranged police officer husband, Ken DeKleine, murdered her on January 10, 2008.

The trial began on Tuesday in Grand Haven Michigan. The Prosecution ended their case today.
The defense presented no case, their client had confessed on video to Lori's Murder.

The tin badge coward of the law, well regarded by his fellow Holland Police Officers, staged the crime scene, in the basement of the home they once shared to make it appear Lori, had committed suicide.

This coward of a man, left the body in the basement for the couple's teenage son to discover. The young man will never recover from the smell of death and images of seeing his life less mothers body and the nylon strap tied around her neck. He will be haunted and reminded for the remainder of his life.

Like most abusers, Ken Dekleine was obsessed that his wife was romantically involved with another man. In this situation, her therapist. He was angry when she secured an order of protection against her police officer husband in January of 2007. Placing blame on the therapist for interferring and brain washing his wife.

It would be Ken DeKleine would would take a mistress sixteen months prior to the murder.

Richelle VanderWal was also married to a police officer at the time, and in the midst of a divorce when she met DeKleine.

Tomorrow, closing arguments begin.

This is not just another tragedy, of a controlling abusive police officer gone bad. Likely to receive
a life sentence.

It is the tip of the iceberg. A glimpse if you will, into reality of what law enforcement wives married to these cowardly tin badge abusers endure, daily.

Police Chief's and the National Fraternal Order of Police need to wake up to the reality their union paying members are committing crimes within their own famiies.

Support the officer and include the family. Yes, the family. You know the wife who has to be careful when her officer husband returns home after shift, because he is drunk. Angry over pressures on the job. Maybe he found a child sexually violated, murdered and left in a swallow grave. Perhaps he was called on a crime scene where an elderly couple was robbed and then murdered. How is a police officer suppose to cope and survive? Where is a police officers wife suppose to turn when the officer turns the gun on her? Where is she suppose to go when her life is in danger?

Provide programs for officers who see the worst of human tragedy, daily. Work with Prosecutors around the country, implementing healthy and safe program for the wives and children.

In ignoring this national epidemic within the law enforcement community, the "Blue Brotherhood" are just as guilty.

Amy Jacobson:From Reporter to Lawsuit

Lisa Stebic mysteriously vanished, without of trace on April 30, 2007. It should be noted, Lisa was going through a divorce from her estranged husband, Craig Stebic.

One gutsy reporter, Amy Jacobson, did the unthinkable. She investigated the case, her way.
Amy used her skills to get close to the Stebic family. This included Lisa's relatives and the "person of interest" Craig Stebic.

In July of 2007, Reporter Amy Jacobson had an opportunity to come out to the Stebic's House. Craig Stebic and Lisa's sister in- law's children along with a few other relatives would also be at the home.

It was an innocent afternoon by the pool. For Amy Jacobson, it was a perfect opportunity to "get the story" and gain more personal insight into the suspect Craig Stebic.

All Amy Jacobson cared about was finding the truth about Lisa Stebic.

Many, do not agree. A camera crew that day from another news station was in the same neighborhood conducting interviews on the case. They "stumbled", when they stumbled upon Amy Jacobson in her bathing suit inside the Stebic's home.

Within days, after the airing by the other news network of the video, Amy Jacobson lost her job.

In my opinion, she lost her job, because she was doing her job.

Today, a lawsuit was filed seeking damages from the news station who chopped up the video of Amy, that cost her a job she truly loved. The lawsuit claims the news station portrayed her as an adulteress and a disreputable reporter.

All this hoopla because a reporter was doing her job, shifted the attention away from the "person of interest" in the case, Craig Stebic.

Where does it say in the "ethics of reporting" one must adhere to certain restrictions when covering a story on your own personal time?

Amy Jacobson went above and beyond. Her only fault was to seek truth and justice!

Life Interrupted: Brooke Bennett June 25, 2008

Brooke Bennett's birthday is July 12, 2008. She would have celebrated her thirteenth year of life.

Who knows, perhaps Brooke would have grown up to be a doctor or maybe a scientist discovering a cure for a fatal disease, or a lawyer arguing before the supreme court. We will never know.

And although her murder has received national attention for being killed by her uncle, her death should have more importance to each of us as parents, grandparents, neighbors and teachers. We must support laws that keep sexual predators behind bars. Early release must not be an option when a person is convicted of a sexual crime against a child.

Jessica's law must be passed in every state across the country. http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/vermont-child-murder-authorities-sitting/n20080703153609990032

This child could have been your neighbor next door. A quiet family, that no one really knew. A child who played with your kids or sat next to them in school. This is just a reminder to all of us that life is precious.

We cannot predict if we will see the sunrise the next morning. In memory of Brooke Bennett let us all remember to give our kids a great big kiss and tell them how important they are each and every day.

Let us also lend our voice to change within the legal system. Remove all privileges sexual offenders are given such as "good time" and early release to harm another child. Or create a sex ring with underage children.

If you do not believe this type of criminal activity affects you? Think, again.
In the fall Brooke would have entered the eighth grade. And then on to high school and college.

Brooke Bennett was a member of the girls basketball and lacrosse teams. And she was a girl scout, troop #510.

Instead of planning a birthday party, the family is preparing her final resting place, on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.

I would like to believe her life means more then being found in a swallow ditch. I would like to believe in the American Justice System.

I would like to believe Brooke Bennett's murder has more importance than a news story we will barely remember, until the next innocent child is murdered.

Murder, Money & Power: Miami Style

The search for the body of Miami Florida resident continues. Or does it?

Not without a few brick walls!

Could it be this case hides behind drugs, power and Miami money?

Are Miami Dade police not making an arrest because they have been given a direct order to back away from this case?

Why would a powerful Miami attorney and businessman be concerned "what evidence" there is regarding Lilly Aramburo?

Is the alleged suspect in this case directly connected to the Mayor, the police and the powerful Miami Attorney and Businessman?

Because of how and where the vehicle was crushed in this case, perhaps the only place to turn is the Florida United States Attorney R. Alexander Costa.

After all, this could be considered a federal matter. It certainly meets the criteria for an investigation from their office.

It appears the US Attorneys office are the only people who can properly investigate this case.

Please consider assisting us in bringing Lilly Aramburo home.

Officer O'Shell's Bloody Violent Life

Video- http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/16754889/detail.html

On June 17, 2008, a three- month old baby was removed from a Colorado home. Children and family services removed the infant because William O'Shell, A Police Officer was under investigation with the Colorado Department of Children & Family Services. According to reports, O'Shell had a "dangerous temper". The three month old baby had numerous injuries, including a fracture. Allegations by the State as a result of the fathers anger according to child protective services.

Last night, Denver police removed the bodies of William O'Shell, 36, and his police officer wife Tiffany O'Shell.

O'Shell murdered his wife, as she slept, before committing suicide. Reports indicate Tiffany O'Shell was preparing to end the abusive marriage. After William O'Shell learned of her plans, he murdered her in cold blood.

Immediately, upon the infants removal from the home, the Department of Children and Family Services prpocedure as a precaution should have sought the suspension of William O'Shell's police badge and gun. Services to Tiffany O'Shell from the District Attorneys office, also needed to be provided.

The Lakewood Colorado Police Department also assisted in Tiffany O'Shells murder. In doing nothing, when knowingly they knew he had been out of control of late, it was equal to pulling the trigger themselves.
