We will discuss the barriers for women in this situations face and provide solutions to a road for safety. We will examine the facts in the Kathleen Savio Murder, Linda Yancey, Lori DeKleine Murder and others on why police departments continue conducting business as usual when it comes to investigations within their rank and file.

Shattered Silence in the Blue World

Ammunition and knives found in the nightstand of retired NYPD crime scene sergeant Raymond Sheehan. He told his wife his forensics expertise would let him get away with anything.

In February of 2008, Barbara Sheehan(pictured above) wife of New York retired Sgt. Raymond Sheehan was charged with second degree murder.If it sounds simple it is not.

If you think Barbara Sheehan could have easily planned an escape away from the violence, I can attest to the fact, her only exist strategy would have been in a body bag, hers.

This morning the 47 -year old Barbara was interviewed on Good Morning America with her daughter sitting beside her. As I heard the woman speak, it was no different from my own mother's words. And, Barbara Sheehan is the same age as my own mother, Roberta Murphy, who was also married to a homicide detective out of Chicago.

My mother was not so lucky. She was carried out in a body bag.

Growing up in an abusive police officer home does not stop when the officer goes on medical or retires. Often the abuse and violence can increase. My mother use to say "once he's off the job, things will be better." Instead, while he was on medical leave, my mothers life was pure hell.

My father stalked my mother. He constantly kept track of her every move. When she did not do as she was told, he found a way to make her "behave". This included my father informing my mother exactly how she would be killed.

So am I saying it is alright to take a life? No, I am not. But, in the blue world, it is not as easy as you may think to have an exist strategy or a safety plan. And in my experience with other officers wives in violent relationships, it comes down to a him or me survival. And to survive Barbara Sheehan lived in psychological terror and a constant battle zone behind the blue doors. No she never made a police report or ever had him arrested, it would only fuel him further. And Barbara knew it.

A police officers wife has a difficult time seeking orders of protection. Often, they cannot access the same avenue for assistance. And women in or married to those in law enforcement who are abused understand because they have been told by the abuser "they will kill them" and get away with it. Or "no one is going to believe them."

I could see and hear from Barbara Sheehans words and body language that facing prison is not going to be as bad as the hell of an existance she was forced to endure for so many years. She has hired attorney Michael Dowd who will be representing her in her trial scheduled for sometime in the spring.

Yes, he was shot 11 times while in the bathroom. It is likely that was the only time Raymond Sheehan did not have immediate access to the heavy artilary he owned. The bathroom was the only place you would not find bullets, handguns or knives.

I am on the stump on this tragedy. My father use to say what appears obvious to the world in the aftermath of a crime scene, may not always be how it really happened. Hands are a funny thing, when tested on a crime scene you have your answers one way or another.

Wisconsin Shooting Spree by Deputy: Lawsuit Filed

The parents of four young people killed by a sheriff's deputy and the lone survivor of his shooting spree last year claim in a lawsuit that the gunman's law-enforcement superiors were negligent in supervising him and giving him access to weapons in Wisconsin last October.

The lawsuit filed in Forest County Circuit Court also claims authorities knew Deputy Tyler Peterson, 20, had a history of violence, yet gave him too much decision-making responsibility.
Peterson was also a part-time Crandon policeman, and the lawsuit names Crandon Police Chief John Dennee, Forest County Sheriff Keith Van Cleve and their insurance companies as defendants.

Peterson killed his one-time girlfriend Jordanne Murray and five other people during a party at her home in Crandon on Oct. 7, 2007. Authorities have said Peterson was angered by the idea that Murray was dating someone else.

After breaking down the door, Peterson fired at least 30 shots from an AR-15 assault rifle he was issued as a member of the Forest County Sheriff's SWAT team. Peterson shot and killed himself hours later after police efforts to get him to surrender failed.
He killed Murray, 18; Bradley Schultz, 20; Lindsey Stahl, 14; Aaron Smith, 20; Lianna Thomas, 18; and Katrina McCorkle, 18. Charlie Neitzel, 21, was shot three times but survived by playing dead.

The parents of Schultz, Stahl, Thomas and McCorkle joined Neitzel in the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Dennee and Van Cleve had been warned that Peterson was a "violent person and a danger," and they knew that Peterson had abused Murray.

None of the complaints against Peterson were investigated, the lawsuit said, adding that the sheriff and police chief failed to protect the public from the dangers posed by Peterson.
Van Cleve and the city attorney for Crandon did not immediately return telephone messages Monday. The sheriff's dispatcher who answered a call for the Crandon Police Department said Dennee was not in his office Monday afternoon.

The city of Crandon and Forest County earlier denied the families' claims seeking more than $5 million in damages. Those decisions opened the door for the civil lawsuit.

The two insurance companies named as defendants in the lawsuit are the League of Wisconsin Municipality Mutual Insurance and Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation.

"Think about the children" were the final words from Lori DeKleine's lips just before her estranged police officer husband, Ken DeKleine, murdered her on January 10, 2008.

The trial began on Tuesday in Grand Haven Michigan. The Prosecution ended their case today.
The defense presented no case, their client had confessed on video to Lori's Murder.

The tin badge coward of the law, well regarded by his fellow Holland Police Officers, staged the crime scene, in the basement of the home they once shared to make it appear Lori, had committed suicide.

This coward of a man, left the body in the basement for the couple's teenage son to discover. The young man will never recover from the smell of death and images of seeing his life less mothers body and the nylon strap tied around her neck. He will be haunted and reminded for the remainder of his life.

Like most abusers, Ken Dekleine was obsessed that his wife was romantically involved with another man. In this situation, her therapist. He was angry when she secured an order of protection against her police officer husband in January of 2007. Placing blame on the therapist for interferring and brain washing his wife.

It would be Ken DeKleine would would take a mistress sixteen months prior to the murder.

Richelle VanderWal was also married to a police officer at the time, and in the midst of a divorce when she met DeKleine.

Tomorrow, closing arguments begin.

This is not just another tragedy, of a controlling abusive police officer gone bad. Likely to receive
a life sentence.

It is the tip of the iceberg. A glimpse if you will, into reality of what law enforcement wives married to these cowardly tin badge abusers endure, daily.

Police Chief's and the National Fraternal Order of Police need to wake up to the reality their union paying members are committing crimes within their own famiies.

Support the officer and include the family. Yes, the family. You know the wife who has to be careful when her officer husband returns home after shift, because he is drunk. Angry over pressures on the job. Maybe he found a child sexually violated, murdered and left in a swallow grave. Perhaps he was called on a crime scene where an elderly couple was robbed and then murdered. How is a police officer suppose to cope and survive? Where is a police officers wife suppose to turn when the officer turns the gun on her? Where is she suppose to go when her life is in danger?

Provide programs for officers who see the worst of human tragedy, daily. Work with Prosecutors around the country, implementing healthy and safe program for the wives and children.

In ignoring this national epidemic within the law enforcement community, the "Blue Brotherhood" are just as guilty.
