Domestic Violence Trial Today for Elected Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi

This morning the trial begins in San Francisco for the newly elected Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.  The incident happened on New Years eve with his now estranged, but, common law wife who he has been with since 2009.   The Sheriff is facing one count each of domestic violence battery, dissuading a witness, and child endangerment.

He was booked and released on $35,000 bail.  Ironically, the Sheriff remains in office until the outcome of the trial.  Naturally, he said at the time "he will fight the charges." Interesting selection of words since "fighting" is how he got into trouble in the first place.

There was video taken by a neighbor after the incident, the defense attorney argued  of course"hearsay," and despite arguments the judge will allow the video into trial.  Also, an interesting  note, the judge has requested, as of today's 90-minute hearing, to speak with a former girlfriend of Sheriff Mirkarimi as there are allegations of past abuse.

What I would like to know is why the delayed action in this case.  He was sworn into office, despite being charged and booked on January 13, 2012.  The crime took place prior to him taking office, why was he even sworn-in until the matter was resolved?

We have a top cop behaving badly, and he's sworn into office? There is also a criminal order of protection against him. Shouldn't he turn in his weapon like everyone else in the world until the case is decided by a judge? Or does the sheriff receive automatic immunity because he's "elected"?  Perhaps the district attorney in San Francisco could take a moment and review the Lautenberg Act.

Seeing remarks made by the defense attorney and her client that this is a "private matter" shows ignorance, especially in officer involved intimate partner violence.  Domestic violence is against the law; it's not private, nor a family matter when you are trained to protect the streets by day and terrorize in your own home at night.

Elected official or not, someone else needs to be overseeing this hen house.  There is an immediate need to having training implemented so that lives are not lost in the future.  Removing hearsay for these types of criminal cases must include the "EAA" (evidentiary abuse affidavit) located at Document The Abuse.  Perhaps the judge will order the training for all law enforcement in the community so victims can document the violence in a nice neat package, just in case they should suddenly vanish or be found dead.

“What hurts the survivor most is not the cruelty of the oppressor, but the silence of the bystander”- Eli Weisel

Document The Abuse it contains vital information on how the "EAA"can support each case of abuse from the perspective of the first responder's and advocates, to an appearance in court.  It explains the legal benefits to the abuse victim, whether they are able to testify or not, how their words are forever documented and hold up in court, much like a Living Will.

Stud Muffin Drew Peterson

Looking like a rock star, the front of the Chicago Sun-Times decided this front page cover of Drew Peterson was appropriate on Mother's Day. I guess stories about courageous women or something to mark today's special day doesn't sell as many newspapers as the stud muffin and dickless wonder, Drew Peterson.

The Levi Page Show will be Taking calls Live this evening, on Mothers's dayfor the entire hour as we discuss and go inside the Drew Peterson arrest. Drew Peterson was nabbed for the murder of the third wife Kathleen Savio.

Registered Sex Offender, Drug Dealer Hired as Traffic Cop

Lorenzo Shepherd spent years behind bars for being a drug dealer and sex offender, but now he's being given a second chance through a program operated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Over three decades, Shepherd has been arrested, charged and convicted of more than a dozen crimes, from theft, to drug trafficking, to rape.

He's also a registered sex offender. Beginning next week, he will be a Cleveland police traffic control officer thanks to the program and the Cleveland police.

Even though his most recent conviction for drug trafficking was two years ago, Shepherd said he's rehabilitated.

"You can trust me. You can feel safe around me," he said.
But Cleveland's police union is outraged by the hiring of Shepherd.

"A guy who has spent his entire life breaking laws is now in charge of enforcing them? It's a ridiculous notion," said union president Steve Loomis. "It's asinine. It's complete insanity to have this guy on the payroll within the Department of Public Safety."
Shepherd, who has been arrested by some of the people he will now serve with, said he is worried how the officers will react to him.
He asks them to give him a chance.

Police Officer Ken Dekleine- Power-Control-Murder

Officer Ken DeKleine (before arrest)

Ken DeKleine at trial with his Lawyer
Mistress Richelle VanderWal
Murder Victim and Mother Lori DeKleine

"Think about the children" were the final words from Lori DeKleine's lips just before her estranged police officer husband, Ken DeKleine, murdered her on January 10, 2008.

The trial began on Tuesday in Grand Haven Michigan. The Prosecution ended their case today.
The defense presented no case, their client had confessed on video to Lori's Murder.

The tin badge coward of the law, well regarded by his fellow Holland Police Officers, staged the crime scene, in the basement of the home they once shared to make it appear Lori, had committed suicide.

This coward of a man, left the body in the basement for the couple's teenage son to discover. The young man will never recover from the smell of death and images of seeing his life less mothers body and the nylon strap tied around her neck. He will be haunted and reminded for the remainder of his life.

Like most abusers, Ken Dekleine was obsessed that his wife was romantically involved with another man. In this situation, her therapist. He was angry when she secured an order of protection against her police officer husband in January of 2007. Placing blame on the therapist for interferring and brain washing his wife.

It would be Ken DeKleine would would take a mistress sixteen months prior to the murder.

Richelle VanderWal was also married to a police officer at the time, and in the midst of a divorce when she met DeKleine.

Tomorrow, closing arguments begin.

This is not just another tragedy, of a controlling abusive police officer gone bad. Likely to receive
a life sentence.

It is the tip of the iceberg. A glimpse if you will, into reality of what law enforcement wives married to these cowardly tin badge abusers endure, daily.

Police Chief's and the National Fraternal Order of Police need to wake up to the reality their union paying members are committing crimes within their own famiies.

Support the officer and include the family. Yes, the family. You know the wife who has to be careful when her officer husband returns home after shift, because he is drunk. Angry over pressures on the job. Maybe he found a child sexually violated, murdered and left in a swallow grave. Perhaps he was called on a crime scene where an elderly couple was robbed and then murdered. How is a police officer suppose to cope and survive? Where is a police officers wife suppose to turn when the officer turns the gun on her? Where is she suppose to go when her life is in danger?

Provide programs for officers who see the worst of human tragedy, daily. Work with Prosecutors around the country, implementing healthy and safe program for the wives and children.

In ignoring this national epidemic within the law enforcement community, the "Blue Brotherhood" are just as guilty.
