"Teacher My Mommy is Dead"

The seven year old boy announced to his teacher “my Mommy won’t be picking me up from school, ever again.” The next sentence out of the youngster “my Mom is dead.”

On October 24, 2005 police made a gruesome discovery, the mother of 4 small children Erika Fuentes-De-Espinal had been shot to death by the children’s father Mark Donaldson.

Afterwards, this piece of garbage not fit to breath wrapped the body in blankets leaving it to decompose in the bedroom of the home where the children were living. The body was in that apartment for five entire days with the kids!

The night Donaldson was brought in for questioning he told police his relationship with Fuentes-De-Espinal had become increasingly violent since the birth of the twins. At one point, he told police, she beat him physically to the point of unconsciousness. But we know now that this was not true. Many offenders who commit murder often make up stories because the person is no longer around to dispute anything.

He said the two got into a fight and he became angry. The next night, Fuentes-De-Espinal came home late and he believed she was having an affair. He was still angry about their fight the day before, the arrest report says. As Erika was changing one of the babies’ diapers, Donaldson retrieved his gun from a closet and shot her in the head, according to the report.

In November of 2009, Donaldson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder as well as two counts of child abuse and neglect with substantial mental harm for keeping the children in the house with their dead mother.

Yesterday Donaldson, 30, was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes. He made a pitiful excuse as to why he murdered Erika telling police and the prosecutor he was addicted to methamphetamine when he killed her and was “sorry for what happened.” He claims all he ever wanted was to “be a good father to his children.” As if to tell the children’s mother on the record he was somehow not responsible at the time for his actions.

The Prosecutor remarked “there is no forgiveness. It doesn’t matter what state of mind the individual was in, nothing is going to bring this girl back,” he said, adding that the family felt that a sentence of 20 years to life wasn’t justice.

As I have often said, we need an isolated island to ship these men when they kill those with whom they are either living with or are married too. Why should we waste millions of tax payer dollars just so they can continue to exhaust a legal system that is obviously broken. All because we refuse, as a society to educate and deal with domestic violence within the home as a crime!

Second Hand Smoke

If you are in a domestic violence relationship, especially if you have children, no matter their age, you are passing on the same fears in their lives, similar to second hand smoke. A child growing up in an abusive home grows up to live without hope and in fear. And they will either become a victim or an abuser when they grow up. Please, if have time, listen to yesterday's broadcast with Pastor Neil Schori and Tanya Warrington.

It is simple, turn on your computer sound and the show will automatically play. If you want to download it to a podcast go Here. Or, consider joining a support group who will be waiting provide information and guidence on your journey to a life without violence.

Survivor’s Guilt- feelings of guilt while mom or other siblings are being beaten.

Emotional shut down from seeing a parent beaten, shoved, chased, or verbally abused.

Constant sadness at what is happening in their home. The child must cope alone with the violence.

Overwhelming feeling of responsibility. Usually the child feels they did something to cause the abuse.

Nervous system overload/burnout. Repeated stress and trauma results in an unhealthy separation from the child’s feelings.

Despair and depression. The child feels as though the conflicts are never going to end and the situation will never change.

Having to go to school, concentrate, taking tests after a horrible night of fighting or while working about a parents safety.

Angry outbursts by the child or stepping in to stop the abuse. Child takes on “caregiver” role.

Numbing the sadness, pain and loss with food, drugs, alcohol when their home is not a safe, secure, predictable place.

Difficulty sleeping/wanting to sleep through the fights. Wanting to escape from the house.

Absolute powerlessness to stop the attacker or save loved ones.

Being repeatedly thrown to a state of panic/confusion (i.e. not knowing what to do…they want a way to stop this… somebody’s going to die).

Unbearable feeling of isolation, no one to tell, no one will believe, no one will help.

Stomach searing; gut wrenching, body crumpling pain, from watching those that they love hurt over and over.

Exhaustion from lack of sleep during night battles. Unable to function productively during the day

Full Strength Prescription For Preventing Murder

[Defense Attorney Chiquita Tate 38 Years Old]

On February 20, 2009, police disovered the body of a woman who believed in the justice system so much Chiquita Tate had a tatoo on her back. She was a good lawyer. But she let her guard down when she let her estranged husband into her secure law offices. She was stabbed 38 times.
No surprises here, her husband was arrested and charged with her murder last week.

Chiquita had secured an apartment for herself and she was divorcing her husband. With whom police found enough evidence in her murder to finally make an arrest.

Nearly 80% percent of murders involving husbands, former and intimate partners in the United States occur either when the woman leaves the relationship or shortly afterward. Usually with a 24 month period.

This tragedy is important for anyone who is ending a relationship where like Chiquita there was a history of domestic violence. Yes it's good to get an order of protection but have a plan in place with the court order. If you do not it is like receiving half of a prescripton.

Never open a locked door to a person with whom you are ending a realtionship.
Never agree to meet the person to "talk things out."

Obtain a new cell phone number. Keep the old one and let it take messages. There is no law that says you have to respond in person or verbally on the phone.

Once you say to anyone who is abusive "I am ending the relationship or I am leaving", you better have an immediate plan in place. You cannot say anything about divorcing, seperating or leaving unless you are out of the residence or in a safe place where you cannot be contacted or located.

Thousands of women are being murdered. If you are involved in a violent abusive or stalking related relationship either current or former, you better have a full strength presciption for safety.

When A Cop Rapes A Child Should Bail Be Denied?

The court documents say forcible rape and incest. In these cases where law enforcement is involved with a crime of a child, in my opinion bond should be automatically, denied.
The am also concerned that the Officer Martinez is a danger to the community. Another issue are his weapons. Allowing officers charged in these cases to retain their weapons, again in a threat to the community. Martinez is a 20 year trained crime fighter.

Perhaps the judge should have issued a GPS monitor for the officer as a condition of his release. Oh, I forgot. They usually don't enforce procedures of safety for police officers.

It is likely this man who raped a 12 year-old child will be represented by a police union lawyer. If Prosecutors offer this bozo a deal. Will he have still be required to register as a sexual predator?

The prosecutors must remember the life of this little girl is in their hands. The victim will live with the scars of this rape, forever. She already lives in a prison. With memories one cannot erase so easily.

And when it is time for Pedro Martinez to resign and sign the paperwork for his pension. Fight to have it taken away. The same way he took away the innocence of the child.

(Source: Masslive.com) Bail was set at $75,000 cash or surety Tuesday for a 20-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department who pleaded innocent to child rape and incest charges.

Pedro J. Martinez, 47, a uniformed patrol officer, was arrested at the end of his shift Monday at 3 p.m. Martinez pleaded innocent to three counts of forcible rape of a child and three counts of incest. Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet said that Martinez was immediately suspended for five days without pay pending a grand jury indictment. Defense lawyer Raipher D. Pelligrino said after the arraignment that the charges are the result of a misunderstanding and his client is innocent.

He told District Court Judge Rita Koenigs that the victim has "issues that need to be explored further." Assistant District Attorney John Compton asked for a bail of $100,000 cash or $1 million surety. Compton said the victim said she was raped and sexually abused repeatedly from January 2005, when she was 12, to October 2008.

Playing Lets Make A Deal in Melissa Lightsey's Murder

After he murdered his wife in November, Benjamin Lightsey made up a cover story about her disappearing off Vilano Beach after a midnight swim.

Earlier this week, the time for deception was over when the tearful 31-year-old father of two pleaded guilty to beating and strangling Melissa L. Lightsey, 36. He was sentenced to an agreed-upon 25 years in prison for second-degree murder.Lawyers said the deal came together last week after Benjamin Lightsey gave police a nearly five-hour sworn statement and Melissa Lightsey’s family consented to the plea bargain. Both the family and prosecutors said he appeared genuinely remorseful.“At least this phase is over,” said Melinda Bryan, the victim’s mother.Benjamin Lightsey said little in court but told police Friday that he snapped after the couple arrived home from a Nov. 8 wedding reception, where they had argued, said Assistant State Attorney Robert Mathis.

Lightsey hit his wife, then choked her, and when he realized what he had done, took her to the beach and left her body in the water, Mathis said.“It was a combination of temper and alcohol,” the prosecutor said. “I think it preyed on his mind. You could actually see relief cover his face when he told us what happened.”Mathis said a transcript of the statement hasn’t been completed.

Lightsey told Circuit Judge Wendy Berger on Tuesday, “I’m still married.” He said he wanted to meet his victim’s family privately, but they declined. They didn’t rule out a future meeting, however.“I can’t forgive him. Not now,” Bryan said.Melissa Lightsey’s body was found by a boater Nov. 9, about 15 hours after her husband told police he last saw her. Initially, her injuries appeared consistent with being struck by a boat propeller, but an autopsy cast doubt on Benjamin Lightsey’s story. He was arrested 10 days later.

Defense attorney Patrick Canan said Lightsey was in shock after the murder and initially spoke of fleeing before being talked out of it by his father, Glenn, a former deputy and candidate for St. Johns County sheriff. Canan said Benjamin Lightsey admitted quickly to him that he was responsible, and plea negotiations began with prosecutors in December."I’ve been in this business many years, and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen ... such remorse and contrition,” Canan said. “In his heart, he’ll suffer forever for what occurred.”Lightsey had been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, which carries a possible death sentence, but Mathis said no one connected to the case sincerely believed the killing was premeditated.

Berger told Lightsey he should have sought help for his temper before it was too late. She said his actions hurt two families and orphaned his own children.“I don’t know you, but I know your family,” she said. “You come from a good family, and you have disgraced their name.”A search warrant was issued in November for a truck belonging to Glenn Lightsey, who authorities were told was called by his son to help search for his wife. His father now works as a private investigator. Mathis said after court Tuesday he couldn’t say definitively whether Glenn Lightsey was involved in the cover- up.

Turning Tragedy Into Triumph

After my mother was killed by my father, I felt completely helpless and absolutely furious. I knew my mothers murder could have been, and should have been, prevented.

Today twenty years later, not much has changed, except, women are dying at the hands of those who profess to love them at epidemic proportions. And, sadly, the deaths have included, the children.

In murders within the past 24 months, the majority of these women were in the process of leaving. Some were filing for divorce, Some filed court orders of protection. Some were moving to an apartment . While were moving in with family and friends. In my opinion, the victims , those killed, were not provided the proper tools to stay safe.

I know I cannot bring my Mother, back. But, I have learned important ways and created tools for those involved in a violent realtionship to either leave safely and or provide documentation so the person responsible does not walk free in society and literally get away with murder.

Whether, the person is in law enforcement, the military or he's Bob the mechanic. If you are reading this and you work with someone or are related to a person in a violent relationship, do something take action by arming yourself with knowledge and safety strategies that work in conjuction with seeking courts orders of protection and divorce.

It is dangerous when you don't have a strategic plan of action. At home or in the workplace. I lecture and teach all over the country. As a published Author,I welcome invitations from human resource professionals, nurses association, health care facilities, mental health professionals, corporations, places of worship, community groups, universities, law schools in educating and providing important tools that saves lives. Drew Peterson and Legal Roaster: Lip Service to Murder?

No image will be more sweeter when Charges are formally filed against "suspect" Drew Peterson in at least one of the cases of his former or present wives.

In todays Chicago Sun-Times reporter Joe Hosey {also author of the Peterson Book-Fatal Vows} says State's attorney expects 'resolution',Drew just shrugs...

Last week on Justice Interrupted crime investigation radio, reporter/author Hosey was asked under the pending "Heresay Legislation" will peterson be charged? Hosey's response "charges would be easier to make in the death of Kathleen Savio, because you have a body."

The legal marshmallow roaster gets a failing grade for implying State's Attorney Glascow is attempting to tie this to his bid for re-election next week.

The "hearsay law" has yet to be signed by the Governor of Illinois. Once it is signed expect the most "famous serial abuser" to be formally charged.

Yes, you will see Peterson's legal team open their bag of legal tricks. I suspect, this time, a year to the day of Stacy Peterson's vanishing, the person responsible will be arrested.

Although for the legal roaster this won't be as exciting as the time the S.W.A.T team visited his own home in the midst of a potentially life threatening crime, it does run a close second.

Once an abuser, always an abuser!

Failing Our Kids

Whether a victim lives in Nebraska, Idaho, California, New York society and Courts Are Failing Battered Women in all parts of the country.

It begins with the simple fact that abuse victims, are not treated as victims of crime.

Society as a hole looks upon domestic violence as a personal issue, rather than a criminal matter. And, sadly, the children are weaved into the war.

Second Hand Abuse is just as equally devasting to a child raised in an abusive home. Tragically, it is silent epidemic in our society.

Survivor’s Guilt- feelings of guilt while mom or other siblings are being beaten.

Emotional shut down from seeing a parent beaten, shoved, chased, or verbally abused.

Constant sadness at what is happening in their home. The child must cope alone with the violence.

Who is Hiding Benito Casanova & the Kids?

Police say Benito may be driving a silver or gray 2002 Dodge Dakota with Illinois plates: 86196HB.

Benito could have also altered the children's looks. Maybe changing the girl into boys clothes or visa versa so they would not draw attention. Benito has few financial resoucres and could go to a relatives home until things calm down. Maybe they are hiding out in a community where little to no english is spoken. Who knows they still might be in the area. Please consider printing off this information and posting it in your community. Perhaps consider translating this information into Spanish.
An Amber Alert has been in effect since Friday, April 18th. It is difficult to miss three children and one man. They are hiding out someplace.
Maybe they were recently at your local fast food chain like McDonalds, Burger King or Wendy's. Or a friend , relative in your community suddenly has a few house guests. No one is going to get in trouble if they come forward. But, please if you or someone you know is hiding them, you need to contact the authorities, immediately. It is likely, the children were picked up from school and told they were going to visit relatives or take a brief vacation. They also have no idea their mother has been murdered.

According to America's Most Wanted Website- Possible Locations where Benito and the three
children could have gone:

Chicago, IL
Illinois
Kansas
Kentucky
Tennessee
Texas
Louisiana
Mexico
Mississippi
Missouri
Arkansas
Detectives have issued an AMBER alert for the Casanova children. They fear they could have been kidnapped by their father after their mother's murder and they say they could be headed to his native Mexico.

Legal System Receive's Failing Grade

Benito Casanova the biological father pictured below is sought in the abduction of three children; Oscar Casanova, 6; Karla Casanova, 7; and Fernando Casanova, 11.

Their mother, Sophia Garcia, was found dead in the 1700 block of North Harding Avenue about noon Monday with a plastic bag over her head. (Photo courtesy National Center for Missing & Exploited Children)

Benito Casanova-Wanted For Questioning

Police found Sophia Garcia dead in her apartment with a garbage bage tied over her face. She died from trauma to the head. No suprise, Sophia had an Order of Protection. As do a lot of these murder victims of late. All being slaughtered, for wanting out of their abusive relationships. You can go to court and seek a paper trail, but once you do, the victim must do everything in their power to move away as far as possible. Benito Casanova carefully thought and planned the crime. Including going over to the school on Friday like the "good parent" to pick up the children. He and the kids, no surpise, have not been seen since. Would A GPS tracking device have slowed the efforts of Benito and his plans? Yes. But he would have been a "good coward" until he met the obligations under the court order. Regardless, he would have followed through with his plans sooner or later. A lot of finger pointing will occur in the next couple of days as theDepartment of Human Services and the Children's school play the game of "we never received the call". The school was contacted when the two year order of protection was in place. But the school denies anyone ever contacted them. But, in fact the department of human services a city of Chicago agency made contact because they were providing services to the mother and kids. Must be a language barrier?

Benito also banked on the fact that Sophia had very little resouces to just pick up and go. She should have been directed to agencies such as Mujeres Latinas En Accion an agency in the community, dedicated to providing services to the Latino Community. They would have directed Sophia into a shelter. Assisted with legal services assisting in moving her far enough away, perhaps even out of the State and she would have been alive and I, would have no reason to write such a story.

Services for families in Illinois and across the country are being slashed in half. Agencies whose budgets are in crisis, holding in their palms, literally, thousands of women and children's lives, like placing a band aid on an infected area that never heals. Because the "system has tied" agencies hands.

What must happen is that everyone across the country, including those lovely politicians with whom we vote into office, sit at the table of reality. The mousetrap is broken. Now lets come to the table like grown-ups and fix it!
