Last year the Crime Wire Team shined a light onto the plight of families dealing with the corruption and ineptitude of the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office. Several families seeking justice for their deceased loved ones banded together, along with Oklahoma City attorney, Jaye Mendros, and formed Justice For The Dead to publicize the need for reform. Out of that union The Chanda Turner Act came into being, and after a long battle through the Oklahoma legislature, it has been signed by the Governor.

The Crime Wire Team welcomes the parents of Chanda Turner, Joe and Donna Turner, the parents of Kristina Rivera-Hill, Sam and Michele Speziale, and attorney, Jaye Mendros to give our listeners an update on what this means to all of the families in Oklahoma waiting years for justice denied.

Family members of Katrina Hill, who died a suspicious death in small-town Tuttle in Grady County, Oklahoma on October 28, 2009 after spending nine (9) days in a coma.

CHANDA TURNER was shot to death at her home in Paul's Valley on July 12, 2000. Her boyfriend claimed she shot herself while he slept through the sound of gunfire, then found her outside on the backsteps after she was dead. Crime scene photos depict blood throughout the inside of the home, including on the mattress he claimed he was asleep on. The mattress had been stripped of sheets; no one asked where they went. There were more signs of clean-up in the bedroom, including a bottle of cleaning solution on the floor. The boyfriend had fresh scratches on his arms, and Chanda was covered in bruises. There were signs of a struggle in the livingroom, including broken furniture. The medical examiners officer ruled the murder a suicide.

"The Garvin County Three" and the Holidays

The phrase :To "kill with a borrowed knife” means borrowing other people's power to help you eliminate a threat. When you lack power or don’t want to reveal yourself, you will borrow a "knife" (from an outside force) to eliminate a threat. By doing this, you are using other people's power for your own gain.  And in the unsolved cases of the "Garvin County Three," in Oklahoma , the borrowed knife was also used after each crime to sign off on each case with the assistance of the medical examiners office as suicide's, rather then homicides .

This holiday season I would like to remind those responsible directly or overtly involved in the deaths of the "Garvin County Three"  Chanda Turner, Sheila Deviney and Tom Horton to enjoy the upcoming holiday with your families.  Those of you whom now have lawyers waiting in the background I hope that one of you consider coming forward with the truth when you are either contacted and unexpectedly visited and questioned in the next couple of months.  Maybe in cooperating you will be able to enjoy future holidays with your family, something that I assure you will not happen for the others whom have, enjoyed their freedom and up until recently gotten away with murder.

ASHLEY DAWN THOMPSON died on Janary 1, 2004 at her home in Roger's County, Oklahoma.  She was only 15 years old. Her boyfriend at the time, who was supposed to be in a guest bedroom, claimed he entered her bedroom through a window on her terrace and found her hanging in her closet.  This man, Joshua Wayne Brown, is now in prison on subsequent rape charges. Yet Ashley's death was summarily ruled a suicide, despite the fact that she was murdered. In fact, only 7 months before Ashley's death, another girlfriend of Joshua Brown's died by hanging. Joining us on the Roth Show is her mother Stacey and Attorney Jaye Mendros.  Currently she represents several families at odds with the embattled ME's Office, which lost its Accreditation in 2009 and is currently the subject of a political corruption investigation.

This time the focus is on cases where the medical exaimer's office inaccurarely stamped death certificates as suicides when the crime scene's dictate otherwise. Tonight the cases of Curtis Eugene Prescott and Gary Don Edwards will be featured.

Thirty-two-year-old Curtis Eugene Prescott died on January 11, 2008 in Mayes County, Oklahoma He was shot in the right side of his head with a 12 gauge shotgun. The funeral director placed his death at 7 or 8 a.m. The Medical Examiner, Steve Massey, said only that it was dark when the shooting took place. Curtis' death was ruled a suicide. No autopsy was performed.

According to Steve Massey, the Mayes County Sheriff's Department reached the suicide conclusion even before they went to the scene. And he admits basing his finding primarily upon their statement that Curtis was on record as having made suicide threats. However, there is no record of any such threats.

And At 6:15 p.m. on October 31, 2006, officers from the Marlow, Oklahoma Police Department were dispatched to the home of 25-year-old Gary Don Edwards in response to a domestic dispute reported by Gary’s wife, Heather. The initial officers to arrive located Gary a short distance from the residence. Police reports of the incident indicate that Gary was in an intoxicated condition. He was arrested for public intoxication, taken to the station, and booked in at 6:40.

At 7:09 Gary made a call to his mother, Donna, and told her what had happened. During that call he also complained to her that he thought the officers were stealing his money. He then handed the phone over to Officer James Price, who informed his mother that Gary would be released in 4 hours. That never happened, Gary Don Edwards was found dead.
