Loving Mother's Case Four Years and Counting: Rachel Conger

Rachel Conger  was abducted by her estranged husband Paul.  Rachel was finally leaving her abusive life. She returned to the marital home for some final items before embarking on her journey to a life without abuse.

In a tragic twist of events, her estranged husband Paul was found three days later with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Prior to the coward committing suicide, he likely murderedRachel Conger, his wife of ten years.

Now, her daughter Amber works day and night to find her mother. She has held fundraisers, created and passed out flyers, and has held a number of fundraising events in Paris, TN. Amber also has t-shirt's for purchase and a web site to bring her mother home.

While most kids spent their holiday's with their parent(s) going on vacation, planning activities or  just hanging out together, Amber Simmons raise's money during the year to pay for professional search teams to comb the area where her mother was taken by Paul Conger.

Rachel was last seen in Paris, Tennessee on March 13, 2008. She was riding with her husband, Paul, in his gray 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck at the time. The couple were having marital problems and Rachel had moved out two months before, but they were trying to reconcile. At 9:33 a.m., an acquaintance called Rachel’s cellular phone. Paul answered and seemed upset. The caller was unable to speak to Rachel. At 10:20 a.m., a witness saw Paul at his home alone. He drove there, stayed only a few minutes, and then drove away again. Rachel has never been heard from again.

Paul disappeared at the same time Rachel did. Their loved ones became concerned and contacted authorities, who began searching for them. Police found Paul’s truck near his home on March 15. Rachel’s cellular phone, wallet and medication were inside it. On March 16, authorities located Paul’s body in the woods off Briarpatch Lake Road, about 500 yards from his home and near where the truck had been recovered. He had shot himself. There was no sign of Rachel at the scene and an extensive search of the area turned up no indication of her whereabouts.

"Stone Cold Target" in Missing Person Intimate Partner Investigation Case of Michelle Parker

"Susan-Stop using the phrase "person of interest." It is a weak-kneed statement- a C.Y.A. phrase that could mean something as innocuous as just a "fact witness" which every husband/boyfriend always is. Step out and call these _ _ _ _ _ _ what they should be-stone cold targets of the investigation." Quote from a prominent criminal defense attorney

Just when I thought I had seen it all, the "only stone cold target" in the vanishing, and now police investigation, of missing Florida mother of 3, Michelle Parker is publicly seeking donations to help with the children.

He set up a Facebook page stating that taking care of the twins has not allowed him to work. Smith is seeking $5,000 in donations and so far he has raised $240. A nice touch, in my opinion, by his current legal team, playing the "I am the perfect daddy sympathy card." Having recent photos of the children displayed on Facebook in such a public case is, however, not a smart move, and it is irresponsible. We have far too many predators who prey on innocent children from postings on social media sites. And, in case the defense team is not familiar, anyone has the ability to geo-track a photo, and show up in that child's neighborhood.

Interesting there are no photos of the children's mother, Michelle Parker, or any plea for information as to her safe return. Again, in my expert opinion, those in the know, having direct knowledge, rarely, if at all, participate in looking for anyone they never want found. Before I receive emails, I do know that under another "defensive play" the search team brought in by the legal defense team, and not Dale Smith is what I consider a conflict of interest. The current legal team also represents and donates to this amazing search organization for missing persons. As a defense strategy they have called this missing persons group in trying to show yet another reason why Smith is innocent. Yes, a person is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

Dale Wayne Smith, last saw his former fiance, Michelle Parker, on November 17, 2011, when she brought the 3 year-old twins over to the residence for a scheduled visitation. He was the last person to see Michelle alive. As we see in case after case the last person to see a potential victim of intimate partner missing and homicide is, in my opinion, the person responsible. The individual responsible almost always has their hands dirtied, and I am not talking about making mud pies. There are those rare occasions when those responsible and clever enough to stage an accident or cover their tracks; get away with murder.

Journalist Isabelle Zehnder reported on December 9, 2011 "the parents of Dale Wayne Smith II, the ex-fiancé of missing Orlando, Florida mom Michelle Parker, were subpoenaed to answer questions under oath at the state attorney’s office, now two searches are underway in areas near their home."

We see one tragedy after another in our communities and on the news about intimate partner violence. Today, in Tennessee, missing mother Karen Swift's body was positively identified. Her husband naturally has hired an attorney and is not cooperating with law enforcement. 

Society tends to think in terms of a “single incident” or, a “one time only” act of violence. Questions are raised and blame is more of a quid pro quo for victims or anyone involved in these types of dangerous situations. We must comprehend that the world in which these victims live and breathe, similar to a contagious infection, is no different than captured and tortured prisioners of war. The vanished, the missing, the murdered all were calculated and planned out by an abusive, angry and controlling individual. The term “DOMESTIC VIOLENCE” or Intimate Partner Violence is a continuing pattern of behavior which can include :

• repeated harassment,
• stalking or surveillance of the victim,' threats and intimidation,
• bodily harm,
• sexual assault,
• child abduction
• or the constant threat , that can escalate, in some cases to murder .

In most abuse cases, the danger continues despite the victim’s attempts to get help from traditional sources. For example, after a female victim seeks assistance from the courts or separates from her abuser, she statistically runs a greater risk of increased harm. The abuser is furious and steps up his behavior and violent attacks. Often the victim is left to fend for herself when it comes to protecting her life. 

If you are in a potentially dangerous situation, I have a question: How many more times are you going to allow the abuse? When someone you are with hurts you, that is not love!You have options. Oh, I know all the excuses from he was drinking, to we are having financial problems, or how about when you are made to believe it was your fault. It is not. Time's Up! If you doing nothing but prepare the abuse video and affidavit prescribed in the information provided below, you have taken a big step towards having you words stick if something happened to you. Telling a close friend or family member about the terror and abuse is not enough to make an arrest or prosecute in a court of law.

Providing information on what you need to do if you or someone you know is in a potentially violent relationship is done with the hope of saving lives. My work in the area of intimate partner violence prevention is a direct result of not being able to save my own mother back in 1989, killed by her police detective husband prior to committing suicide. 

If you are in a relationship that has a history of violence, simply mustering up the courage to confront the person and say it is over, without the proper tools, can cost you, your life! One of the major reasons women stay in abusive relationships is fear. They are afraid of what will happen to them and their children if they leave. Sadly, their fears are often justified; statistics show that a woman is at the greatest risk for injury when she announces her plans or leaves an abusiverelationship. The book "Time's Up A Guide on How To Survive and Abusive and Stalking Relationship"is the prescription, if you will, that every person must obtain before they announce they are leaving.

The daughter described Paul, her stepfather, as abusive, and stated her mother loved her and would never have abandoned her. Authorities believe Rachel was the victim of a murder-suicide at Paul’s hands. Her body has never been recovered, however.

"Maternal Deprivation Abuse" or Parental Snatching of Children

Mothers seeking to end their abusive relationship and file for divorce are meeting additional hurdles within the legal community when the courts refuse to hear or allow evidence of abuse. A recent example turned deadly, are the lives of Jack and Duncan whose father had serious psychiatric issues and yet a judge continued to allow visitation. When he was finally allowed to take the 2 boys on unsupervised visitation he killed them.

In other cases mothers just simply vanish similar to Stacy Peterson, Kelly Currin Morris, Lisa Stebic, Renee Pernice, Rachel Conger and others whose bodies will likely never be recovered all because they wanted out of their abusive marriage. These men to whom they married were not likely to split financial assets or allow their wives or “property” to go on living unless it was under their controlling environment. Instead the abuser's have moved on and if they have not been arrested for murder they have moved on with their lives demanding their children adjust without their mothers. Predators of the worst kind snatching their children away from the very person who brought them into this world.

Or, the women are murdered in cold blood like Renee Pagel, Ronda Reynolds, Crystal Brame, Linda Yancy, Barbara Vanaman, and thousands of others all because they wanted to end their marriage not their lives.

This form of abuse is also called “maternal deprivation abuse” that is when a father makes Mommy pay for wanting to leave the relationship. It also happens during divorce in family court. The abusive husband does everything in their power to make mom crazy, unfit, insane and convinces court appointed mediators, judges and mental health experts to give them custody. This goes beyond parental alienation and the children who grow up without their mothers in these cases grow up to a world of hurt, anger, pain and destruction.

When Marriage Turns Deadly

According to David Lohr’s Blog “There are several cases of missing mothers in the news right now. Two of those cases – Kelly Currin Morris and Corrie L. Anderson – have received a considerable amount of coverage here in recent months. Now another case - a Missouri mother of three – joins them among the pages of the missing, Renee Pernice……….

Not long ago cases of mothers vanishing , received little to nothing in the way of media coverage. A few scattered blurbs here and there it was more of a missing persons case if law enforcement couldn't find a body. Often police would not do much in the way of investigation, how could they? A potential crime scene in the residence of where the couple shared their lives. Unless they have a good reason to ask for a search warrant, it may not happen. Or too much time elapses and important evidence is destroyed. The case is now cold and it gets thrown into the pile of missing or unsolved cold cases. In part, this is due to lack of training in the area of domestic violence crimes. But,the Internet has become an important tool in bringing awareness to mothers and girlfriends missing at the hands of those who profess to love them. Pressure is placed from the community to law enforcement to investigate these cases. The Internet keeps their cases alive in hopes that someone will come forward or the person responsible is finally brought to justice.

One of the highest profile cases of mothers vanishing is Stacy Peterson. The Bolingbrook wife and mother married to the police Sergeant whom we see parading himself all over national television with a catch me if you can attitude.

None of these women could have predicted their fate. Each married to in my opinion murdering monsters. Their very existence based on power and control over every detail in their lives.
These men thought carefully when they discovered the mothers of their children and wives confronted their husbands with the startling news, they were leaving. Making plans to move forward without their abusive and controlling husbands.

In studying these cases for nearly twenty years, the majority of these cases have several similarities:

The women are stalked and tracked throughout their daily routines.

They have been somewhat isolated from friends and family.

They have been physically or verbally threatened with bodily harm if they don’t listen, or decide to leave.

They did not have a plan of action that included evidentiary documentation.

They confronted the person, disclosing to them their plans in ending the marriage or relationship.
The children of these women are, motherless.

Each, have vanished, or been killed.

While I can never bring my own mother back since her murder almost twenty years ago at the hands of man who was also angry she was moving forward with her life. A Father's Search For His Daughter

Yes, Christmas is a few weeks away. And since September 3, 2008, one family is praying for the recovery of their daughter's body to be found.

On the morning of the 3rd of September, a 28 year old mother of two children, vanished. And since that day her father and other volunteers have continued to search Kelly Currin-Morris.

Her children haven't seen her since the beginning of September --the same day she was reported missing was the same day their home was set on fire in Stem, North Carolina. Authorities ruled the fire that destroyed the home, arson.

Kelly's car was later found abandoned about a mile away. Her cellular phone, keys and purse were also found.

It should be no surprise that her husband, Scott Morris, has been named a person of interest by police. I know we hear and read about these cases and those possibly responsible sit back like the cowardly lions they are, waiting until law enforcement places them under arrest. Maybe you waited on Scott Morris a few months back at a hardware store and are afraid to come forward. Or you might be a friend or a relative who may have heard remarks that you thought odd, but disregared them as nothing. Then when Kelly turned up missing, you remained quiet. Any information a comment, a discussion you overheard is very important in this case.
