Susan welcomes Barry Goldstein, a domestic violence writer, speaker, advocate and consultant. Along with Dr. Maureen Hannah, Barry edited the new book ,DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, ABUSE and CHILD CUSTODY. After serving as an attorney for 30 years, frequently defending the rights of victims of domestic violence, the NY Court System retaliated against him for exposing an abusive judge and suspended his license. Barry Goldstein works tirelessly to establish fairness within the courts in custody issues, especially for battered mothers. Barry is also the author of SCARED TO LEAVE AFRAID TO STAY.

Along with Barry Goldstein, we will be joined by a woman who is currently making her way through the maze of safety. Clara Colon is the wife of a police officer. Wives of officers and military personnel have a unique set of circumstances and they have less options of safety available to them because of whom they are married to. Clara will be with us to discuss the measures she is taking to keep herself and her children safe, her experience with the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit and the information set forth for her unique situation.

Theresa Parker: Can Finally Go Home

Theresa Parker, a 911 dispatcher with the Walker County Sheriff’s office in Atlanta, vanished without a trace in March of 2007. She was going through a divorce with her estranged husband Sgt. Sam Parker, a Police Officer in Lafayette.

Sam claimed as so many whom commit intimate partner homicide,” he had nothing to do with her disappearance.” And they she “ran away to start a new life.”

In September 2009, a jury found Sam Parker guilty of malice murder after a three week trial, even though Theresa's body had never been found. Judge Jon "Bo" Wood sentenced him to serve the rest of his life in prison.

Today, at news conference officials announced the remains of Theresa Parker were found off Fullerton Road in Lyerly -- southwest of Summerville in rural Chattooga County. Ironically, this is the area Sam knew very well.

In cases of Intimate Homicide when a victim’s suddenly vanishes, often when remains are finally discovered, the killer almost always goes to a place that is familiar specifically to them. In this case it was near Sam Parker’s childhood home, an area he knew better than anyone.

Today, from behind the blue wall Theresa Parker's voice, although silenced is finally going home with her family where she belongs. The discovery of her remains elimates the possibility for Parker to file an appeal (because he can no longer claim there is not a body) and ask the higher courts for a new trial.

With the help of OIDV Network, She has created Michigan Officer Involved Domestic Violence the first website dedicated to victims and survivors of Officer Involved Domestic Violence in Michigan. In 2008, Laura Spars founded & Jennifer Aukerman co-founded the Michigan Officer-Involved Domestic Violence Corp., and it is a great honor for me to be working side by side with Laura and Jennifer. Current projects I am working on with Michigan Officer Involved Domestic Violence Corp include creating/maintaining MIOIDV's websites and creating Pam's Place for victims of OIDV. Renee is working on a book about Michigan officer-involved domestic violence cases, and hope one day to write/publish a book about the personal stories of victims/survivors of OIDV, in their own words, in the hopes of giving victims/survivors their voices.
