Justice Interrupts the Life of Christie Thorne

Crime Wire featured the case of Christie Thorne. Two weeks before her divorce was finalized she was found dead.
Christie Thorne was a victim of domestic violence and stalking according to numerous police reports . Because the divorce was not finalized her parents had no say in how her remains were handled. It is disturbing that evidence was destroyed, and no autopsy was performed; no medical examiner or coroner in charge of the crime scene, instead a rush to judgement by a justice of the peace, in the town of Longview, located in the State of Texas, ruling her death a suicide.
Immediately, the husband, who still maintained legal rights because they were technically still married, was able to authorize the body cremated. The evidence was destroyed.
This is why when a person begins a divorce action, separates or ends a relationship, having the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit and video prepared and copies given to trusted friends and relatives removes the burden by surviving families members to have cases of intimate partner homicide investigated and those responsible arrested.
Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit by Susan Murphy Milano from the Book "Time's Up" from Courage Network on Vimeo.
Christie was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head on the bedroom floor of her home in Longview, Texas on June 21, 2007. After an inadequate investigation and no autopsy, a 19-minute inquest by a Justice of the Peace resulted in the determination that the then 35-year-old had taken her own life. Over the objections of Christie's family, her body was released to her estranged husband and cremated.
Jeanie Cummings, Christie's mother, doesn't believe her daughter killed herself. She is convinced that Bob Thorne, Christie's husband, murdered Christie. She cites a history of domestic violence and contends that the investigators, including the Justice of the Peace, botched the investigation due to incompetence or corruption.

Steps taken by the family:

1. Have sucessfully been able to show and with Judge Fort's own Informal 19 minute InquestRuling of how incompetent he was when he ruled that my daughter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her left temple. MY DAUGHTER WAS RIGHT-HANDED!!

2. Have successfully been able to show a conflict between Judge Fort's ruling and the police reports. The judge incompetently ruled that my daughter's fatal gunshot wound came from her left while the police were indicating incompetently that the gunshot came from her right side....POINT OF FACT IS...( they all BOTCHED my daughter's suspicious death )..( MURDER )... and without ever considering even ONCE that an autospy needed to be performed while they never apparently thought much either to go over everything thoroughly BETWEEN themselves before they all decided negligently that their incompetent ruling of suicide just might have been a homicide instead that needed investigating to get a murderer off the streets. My daughter's death was a violent death in Texas and her suspicious death should have NEVER been ruled a suicide so quickly by either the police or byJudge Fort.

3. We hired a Private Investigator, Mr. Akin's, who is a crime scene expert out of Austin, Texas who looked over my daughter's crime scene pictures in April of this year and in his analysis he wrote that it appeared that my daughter's fatal wound was to her left temple..( just like Judge Fort ruled )..and he wrote that it appeared that her hair had been violently pulled to the left. Also, there was NO BLOOD on either one of her hands. NOTE: The police did not bother to do a GUNSHOT RESIDUE TEST and did not bother to run fingerprints on the gun. MY DAUGHTER DID NOT FIRE THAT GUN THAT KILLED HER. SHE WAS OVER-TAKEN BY SOMEONE AND THEY MURDERED HER.

4. We have reached out to 2 medical examiners sending them both my daughter's crime scene pictures, etc...(. one is from Texas, he's a chief medical examiner, a Dr. Frost ,out of San Antonio, Texas who is trying to change for the better all death investigations in Texas, and then there is Dr. Bonnell, a medical examiner for Parents Of Murdered Children, Inc. who wrote us his opinion about how incompetent Judge Fort and the police were in having no forensic training but who ruled my daughter's death a suicide with no autospy being performed. Dr. Bonnell's most recent letter that he wrote to us after seeing Judge Fort's incompetent ruling this year after I sent the judge's ruling to him shortly after we received it ourselves, states in his letter pertaining to how Judge Fort handled so incompentently my daughter's suspicious murder, in quoting that this is.. THE TWILIGHT ZONE. THIS IS WORSE THAN THE TWILIGHT ZONE TO US> THIS IS THE ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE THAT ANY PARENT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH COULD GO THROUGH.

COVER-UP
We aren't sure that there was a cover-up but it does appear to us that the judge and the police have gone WAY out of their way since Day 1 of our losing Christie that there was NOT going to be a death investigation at all much less a murder investigation either which does make us all suspicious of them in always wondering WHY and HOW could they have over-looked so many many suspicious circumstances that led up to her death. We will always wonder why they didn't seem to even care enough to make sure that their own reports matched one another in something that is so serious to do everything it takes to be completely sure in how someone dies. They never considered once that there should have been an autospy performed first before they ruled anything. It is beyond us and everyone we've talked too in wondering how could Judge Fort be so careless like this in ruling a violent suspicious death to be a suicide without ever considering an autospy to be performed of a young mother who had just lost her life very suddenly and very mysteriously.

We have been lied to from da 1 by Homicide Detective Hewitt saying to us right after we lost her that she had been shot in her mouth but later saying that he thought her ex-husband killed her. We wonder WHY and HOW could a homicide detective lie like this to a family who had just lost their loved one. We didn't find out till later after receiving the police reports that she didn't die like we were told at first by this detective. Since Detecftive Hewitt for some reason told me before we received the police reports that he thought her ex-husband killed her, I asked him was he going to investigate my daughter's death by investigating her ex-husband and this is where he told me that HIS HANDS WERE TIED. WE WONDER WHAT OR WHO TIED HIS HANDS?Getting back to day 2 of my daughter's suspicious death, Detective Hewitt didn't even know which apartment my daughter lived in stating to me on Day 2 of our losing Christie that her apartment was on the top section of the apt. complex when I knew that her apt. was on the ground floor. These were the first RED FLAGS that something was very very wrong beyond our losing her and as time went on it all got worse in our realizing that something was WRONG with how this detective and JUDGE FORT was handling my daughter's death there. Is this a COVER-UP? WE DO WONDER!!

I don't know for sure if there was a life insurance policy on my daughter or not but I'm pretty sure that there was one on her because her husband at the time of her death had just taken out a policy a few months before this happened to her on himself for $400,000 leaving my daughter the beneficiary. The police had... ( THEIR HANDS NOT BEEN TIED )... should have looked into this along with looking into ALOT of suspicious circumstances surrounding my daughter's murder but they didn't seem to care much about anything even telling us that everything was up to my daughter's husband who should have been made a suspect along with his 18 year old son a suspect also considering that they were both the last ones to see my daughter alive.

Thank you so much for your time and thank you for offering to do a story about this. God Bless You. Sincerely, Jeanie..( Christie's Mom )
God please let there be "JUSTICE FOR HER"!!

Rap Sheet As Long As Toilet Paper Strikes Again!

In 1994 3-year-old Devin Brewer of Oakland, California was beaten to death by Curtis Martin III. The child he murdered with his fists was the child his then-girlfriend.

This low-life piece of garbage was allowed to plead the murder of the 3-year old down to voluntary manslaughter and was only sentenced to 11 years in prison. He also has a rap sheet about as long as a roll of toilet paper from robbery, burgalry to weapons charges. Did someone miss the 3 strikes and you are out prison rule? Clearly this dangerous repeat felon was going to strike again. Over the weekend his was arrested.

This past weekend his current girlfield Zoelina Williams was found fatally beaten and her body discovered with a bullet in her head. On Sunday police disovered what looked like her 17-month old child Jashon's body found floating near by dead in the water.

What do I have to say to get people to understand that once someone is an offender, they will do it again. No amount of rehabilitation on this planet will change an individuals violent, controlling and deadly actions.

Believeing that a person with whom you are romatically involved or married too, if they are abusive or have served prison time, you need to get your head out of the clouds and realize you will wind up seriously injured or killed yourself if you do not get the hell out of that toxic and dangerous relationship.

Predicting the behavior of another person is very difficult, especially if the person has promised not to become abusive again. Often it is our hope that things will get better that makes the assessment of risk even more difficult. There are several factors in assessing dangerousness.

These factors suggest a greater risk of continued and/or severe violence. If you can see any of these in your abuser, seriously consider and understand that the abuse will not go away, that it may very well get worst, and that you will never be able to control the situation well enough to ensure your own protection. If you see the first risk factor AND any of the others, then you should know the risk's that you can be severely injured or killed increases greatly.

Does your partner has a prior history of domestic violence (that is, partner has been violent with you previously, or has been violent in other relationships this includes family members)

Partner is extremely possessive and jealous :
The person has “possessive beliefs” – that is, strong feelings of ownership about their victim – the risk of fatality doubles. An “insanely jealous” partner may be extremely dangerous – especially if he/she comes to believe that you are not “faithful” or that you are intending to leave.

Partner threatens to kill you or others in your life if you ever leave the relationship:
This is the third most powerful predictor of fatality. While not everyone who threatens to kill their partners follows through with the threat, most of those who do kill have threatened to do so. Take any and all threats seriously. This is not a game. I do not care if the person said it while they were drunk or high-it still counts as a serious threat.

Partner believes you his wife or girlfriend has betrayed him (or her).If the person abusing you views you as having rejected him or her in preference for another partner or for independence, you are at greater risk.

Partner knows you are attempting to leave. If you are in the process of leaving be very careful. The risk of leaving without a concrete safety plan in place increases your chances of remaining alive. This factor represents the dangerousness inherent among some individuals who have a longstanding pattern of criminal behavior. Watch out for partners who have a history of criminal charges against people (like battery, assault).

Be extremely careful when partners appear to have no conscience and no remorse for causing pain to others. If any of these factors are present, there is an increased risk of violence:· Social services has become involved in your family. Your partner believes that you have more status or power than he/she does.

Your partner has lost a job. The legal system is involved in your partner’s life.
You are pregnant or there has been a recent birth of a child.
Your partner has access to weapons.
You are preparing to leave.
Your children are about to be removed.

Your partner is actively seeking information regarding your location. What does this all mean? It means that all violent partners do not come in some neat package with a warning label attached to their shirt collar. It means that hunk of a man with deep gazing green eyes who makes your knees weak can be a dangerous partner in a relationship and breaking from that spell of lust/love is a difficult undertaking. Given that we can often under-estimate the level of danger to ourselves, it is time you take seriously the personal safety for you and your children. Go to the library and pick up a copy of Defending Our Lives or Moving Out Moving On and begin formulating a plan.

At the library find out if there are tapes on self defense that you can watch in a private room in the library.
Doing nothing will get you killed, and then Time's Up!

Crossing Your Fingers and Living in Fear

Relationships with narcissists drag out slowly and tortuously. Narcissists do not provide closure. They stalk. They cajole, beg, promise, persuade, and, ultimately, succeed in doing the impossible yet again: sweep you off your feet, though you know better than to succumb to their spurious and superficial charms. So, you go back to your "relationship" and hope for a better ending. You walk on eggshells.

You become perfect picture of submissiveness, a weak source of narcissistic supply, the ideal mate or spouse or partner or colleague. You keep your fingers crossed. But how does the narcissist react to the resurrection of the bond? It depends on whether you have re-entered the liaison from a position or strength - or of vulnerability and weakness.

The narcissist casts all interactions with other people in terms of conflicts or competitions to be won. He does not regard you as a partner - but as an adversary to be subjugated and defeated.

As far as the abuser is concerned, your return to the fold is a triumph, proof of his superiority and irresistibility. If he perceives you as autonomous, dangerously independent, and capable of bailing out and abandoning him - the narcissist acts the part of the sensitive, loving, compassionate, and empathic counterpart. Narcissists respect strength, they are awed by it. As long as you maintain a "no nonsense" attitude, placing the narcissist on probation, he is likely to behave himself. If, on the other hand, you have resumed contact because you have capitulated to his threats or because you are manifestly dependent on him financially or emotionally - the narcissist will pounce on your frailty and exploit your fragility to the maximum.

Following a perfunctory honeymoon, he will immediately seek to control and abuse you. In both cases, the narcissist's thespian reserves are exhausted and his true nature and feelings emerge. The facade crumbles and beneath it lurks the same old heartless falsity that is the narcissist. His gleeful smugness at having bent you to his wishes and rules, his all-consuming sense of entitlement, his sexual depravity, his aggression, pathological envy, and rage - all erupt uncontrollably.

The prognosis for the renewed affair is far worse if it follows a lengthy separation in which you have made a life for yourself with your own interests, pursuits, set of friends, needs, wishes, plans, and obligations, independent of your narcissistic ex and unrelated to him. The narcissist cannot countenance your separateness.

To the abuser, you are a mere instrument of gratification or an extension of his bloated False Self. He resents your pecuniary wherewithal, is insanely jealous of your friends, refuses to accept your preferences or compromise his own, in envious and dismissive of your accomplishments.
Ultimately, the very fact that you have survived without his constant presence seems to deny him his much-needed Narcissistic Supply. He rides the inevitable cycle of idealization and devaluation.

He berates you, humiliates you publicly, threatens you, destabilizes you by behaving unpredictably, fosters ambient abuse, and uses others to intimidate and humble you ("abuse by proxy").

You are then faced with a tough choice: To leave again and give up all the emotional and financial investments that went into your attempt to resurrect the relationship - or to go on trying, subject to daily abuse and worse?

So much of what goes on in leaving an abusive relationship has to do with fear. What will happen to me? Who will take care of and love me? These questions are in everyone’s mind as they remain hostage in the abusive relationship and they prevent anyone in these situations from seeking help. Recognize that if abuse happens once, it happens again. So, know it and get away from it. Someone will be on the other side to help you. But most importantly, learn to love yourself.

Criminal Factors in Family Violence Crime

Amanda Groves had separated from her husband last summer. In her early thirties, the marriage just was not working. Amanda claims there was no abuse. Her husband did not exhibit the signs we see or read about in the aftermath of an abusive relationship. Amanda did not anticipate her husband Billy would threaten and stalk her after he moved out of the home. But he did. With each day they were apart, he became increasingly angry and abusive. After Billy damaged her car, she went to court to obtain an order of protection believing it would make Billy stop his threatening and abusive behavior. Amanda did not have a plan. She did not think it would escalate further. She, like thousands of others in this country who separate, divorce or end a dating relationship often do not have a strategy for their own safety. The criminal mind with these offenders is a reactive reflex to loss of power and control in their lives.

Anytime when someone is rejected and hurt in a relationship, that individual will do anything to reclaim their life. Including murder. Within a short amount of time, Billy was planning out the murder of Amanda. It is more than "If I cannot have her no one can". It is a criminal element within their mind taking the relationship and ending it forever on their terms.

We do not associate the criminal path abusers take in relationships where the parties are involved with one another, because they are known to one another. Quickly, society and law enforcement places it in the neat easy category of "domestic violence". Often treating the crime from the onset with less importance. Herein lies the problem for victims who are often left to fight the abuser and the system at the same time, all alone.

On the morning of September 29, 2007, as Amanda was returning home, Billy was waiting for Amanda in the home the couple once shared.
"The only thing I could remember was all the flashing from the gun," Amanda said.
"(Billy Groves had) no violent behavior -- (he) never treated me wrongly," Amanda said.
According to Groves, she never feared her husband until they separated.
"The arguments started getting worse," Groves said. "A lot of things between us were very nasty. It was a side of him that I had never seen before. That's when the stalking started."
"(He was) walking up and down my street," Groves said. "He always would just so happen to be somewhere on my way to work -- the gas station, the bank -- somewhere conveniently in my path."
The stalking turned physical when their paths crossed in a park in early August. According to Groves, Billy followed her and a friend to the park and beat them up.
"That's when I got the protection order," Groves said. "The prosecutor didn't feel that they should press charges at that point. (I) don't understand that."
After that, she said that Billy Groves made his presence known every day.
According to a civil protection order granted on Aug. 13, Billy Groves was ordered to not come within 500 feet of his wife. Just over a month later, he violated every stipulation of the order.
"As soon as I pushed the door open, he started firing," She said. "I (turned) to run. The first shot hit me in the doorway of my house."
The bullet entered Amanda's back. It just missed her spine and severed her liver into two pieces. She made it to her driveway before falling to the ground. Amanda said that she played dead and waited for the shooting to stop.
"He did kick me repeatedly in the face while I was in the driveway before he ran back in the house," according to Amanda.
More gunshots followed and then there was silence
Police found Billy Groves in the house. He was dead, with a semiautomatic weapon in his hand.
After spending four of six weeks in the hospital with a coma and multiple surgeries to repair her liver, Amanda Groves learned that Billy killed himself.
According to Amanda, Billy Groves made a videotape the night of the shootings. She described him as acting calm while mentioning he was going to shoot and kill her.
"He said he was doing what she thought, in his heart, was right," Amanda Groves said.
She wonders whether things would have changed if Billy were arrested after the incident that took place in the park.
"I did everything I was supposed to do," Groves said. "The protection order did nothing but give me a false sense of security."
Now that she is back to work, Amanda is trying to put the terror behind her. Even in surviving, there are challenges. Amanda Groves lost her house because she could not work and victims' assistance was not enough. She is soon going to have another surgery.
Yes, an order of protection is a false sense of security. A band aid of sorts, briefly covering or borrowing more time to prepare, get out and save your life.
