Clear and Present Danger : Summer Inman

"Summer Inman filed for a divorce from the her husband in June 2010. According to the divorce filing, he
threatened to kill her if she were to leave with the children. Summer also said in the complaint her husband would hide her car keys and cell phone and hold her captive inside their home."

Unfortunately this is a classic case of a young mother moving forward with her life, away from the violence, only to be stopped in cold blood! This is intimate partner violence escalating to the ultimate power and control, murder.

The estranged husband now in jail planned with his parents to abduct and silence the mother of his children. Notice the words at the top "leave" car keys" cell phone" hold her captive" and threatened to kill her." He carried out his plan to kill her.

As I am writing this Summer Inman's body has been found. Police are currently processing the crime scene "just off of U.S. 33 about 6/10 of a mile into Athens County, just outside of Hocking County," in Ohio. The Logan Police Department did an excellent job in alerting the community and keeping the search going on this case.

May she rest in peace. Prayers to her three children and family.

If Summer's determination to leave is not a wake up call to anyone ending their abusive and or stalking relationship without preparing the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit and video before they announce it is over, think again!

Once you are threatened, hit, stalked, questioned in a controlling way, a second chance to save your life, is no longer an option.

“If you are reading this and find yourself in a similar situation, know that there are measures you must take before announcing the end of your relationship. These safety precautions can be found in the book, "Time's Up: A Guide on How to Leave an Abusive and Stalking Relationship" by Susan Murphy Milano. Don't take things into your own hands without expert guidance.” (Mothers Are Vanishing)

I cannot stress enough, if you are in a relationship that has a history of violence, simply mustering up the courage to confront the person and say it is over, without the proper tools, can cost you, your life!
One of the major reasons women stay in abusive relationships is fear. They are afraid of what will happen to them and their children if they leave. Sadly, their fears are often justified; statistics show that a woman is at the greatest risk for injury when she announces her plans or leaves an abusive relationship.

The book "Time's Up A Guide on How To Survive and Abusive and Stalking Relationship" is the prescription, if you will, that every person must obtain before they announce they are leaving. Below is an example from Chapter 4, one of many unique tools provided in the book. It is available on Amazon.com, or you can purchase via e-book or on a cd. Samantha Renee Smith: Intimate Partner Homicide?

Samantha5

The case of Samantha Renee Smith is disturbing on so many levels. I had hoped that law enforcement from Laurens County, South Carolina would have attended the CUE conference for missing persons in Wilmington, North Carolina this past weekend. To gain insight and techniques regarding these types of cases where it involves the "last person" to have seem them.

In my opinion, it would have gained new insight into this case. This case, is less about a "sudden disappearance", and more about an intimate partner homicide case. The last person to have contact with Samantha, was her then current boyfriend. They argued that day after going to church service. He claims they parted and went their separate ways that day. There was also a 25 year age difference between the couple.

Was she ending the relationship?

Did she meet someone new and strike up a friendship?

Has the vehicle registration number from her car ever been entered into a national data base to check if it had been scrapped or sold? Has the title record ever been checked on the car to see if it was sold?

Are law enforcement certain about the time-line or could it actually be the week before?

School records: when was the last date Samantha attended class at Piedmont Tech?

The couple lived together and yet, she took nothing with her. If she were just leaving, personal items, you know clothes, bra, under garments, shoes, high school and family photo's would never be left behind.

Yes, she suffered from depression, but to me it strikes a convenient red flag for one sorry excuse of bullshit. She was attending school and planning out her future, one that no longer included a controlling relationship. A letter a few years after she vanished a letter was found hidden in a personal item and according to accounts it holds some importance. He the boyfriend as in 99.9% of intimate partner violence and homicide cases and also the "person of interest" has no reason to report or panic that something has happened. They simply go on with the routine in their lives in hopes no one will continue to suspect them, that is until now. Samantha did not voluntarily walk into any woods, not on her own anyway.

Time and evidence have been lost. But it is not too late, as in so many that are solved by law enforcement, with a fresh pair of eyes to work Samantha's case.

To the person whom decided to have the last act of control in her life, I am asking you, sir, to consider calling and making an anonymous tip with where Samantha can be found. Her mother's health is declining and all she wants to do is bring her daughter home. I believe you have a conscious and that is why I am making this plea to you.

From the Help Find The Missing Site:

Quoted :

Well, it’s here. November 5, 2009. Three years ago Samantha Renee Smith vanished! I can’t tell there is much difference in every day life… Few people in our area recognize her name. You never see her face on missing posters. The ones I put up are always gone within a day or two. You don’t hear Nancy Grace or any of the others for that matter, even mention her name. And believe me I have contacted many people in the media. Reminders of today and I hope, maybe one will run a story about her.

I wonder if the new police chief, or Safety Director, has ever heard her name mentioned.

You don’t see her face flashing on every other myspace you look at. Almost no one would recognize her face if it scrolled across the top of this site.

But, Someone knows. And one day we will all know.

God bless you Samantha.

Intimate Partner Violence Ends with No Answers for the Family of Police Cadet Kelly Rothwell

missing woman, police cadet, kelly rothwell, david perry

Kelly Rothwell had planned to move in with friends in the Palm Harbor area. Friend said that Rothwell had described Perry’s behavior as very controlling and possessive, and that he had been reading her emails.

I had hoped that authorities would have made an arrest by now on the intimate partner homicide of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida police cadet, Kelly Rothwell.

This is what is known:

  • Kelly Rothewell went to her condo to end the relationship with her abusive and violent boyfriend former New York correctional officer Dave Perry;
  • On March 12th neighbors from the unit below heard thumping and noise from her unit;
  • Dave Perry took off in his car sometime later in the evening;
  • Dave Perry flee's like a coward to Elmira, New York where he is currently in hiding;
  • Dave Perry cooperates in true offender style by providing breadcrumbs of bullshit to law enforcement, via an attorney;
  • Law enforcement in Florida or New York were unable to obtain photo's of scratches, marks and possible bites likely received on Perry from Kelly as she fought, fighting for her life;
  • The son of Dave Perry's attempted to removed a cardboard box from the condo and police took the box;
  • The police in New York obtained a search warrant for Perry's car which I will bet he likely has had the car all ready cleaned.

What went wrong in the case:

  • Kelly Rothwell confronted her dangerous abuser;
  • An unknown person drove Kelly Rothwell's personal car to a street location where police found the vehicle;
  • Kelly Rothwell did not prepare the Evidentiary Abuse document and video as provided in the book Time's Up a tool that must be utilized by first responders and anyone before they announce to anyone the relationship is ending. This would have assured law enforcement an immediate arrest prior to her vanishing;
  • Law enforcement have yet to give the family the contact information to the CUE Center for Missing Persons; (www.ncmissingpersons.org)
  • The family has yet to register Kelly's case so a coordinated search an be conducted immediately;
  • A second warrant was obtained by Pinellas County Sheriff's office for another search at the residence;
  • A family member gathered some of Kelly's personal items;
  • In this case as it in far too many of missing persons cases, especially involving a history of intimate partner violence time has passed and the window of opportunity to obtain critical evidence evaporates with each passing day.

Going Forward:

  • Cue Center for Missing Persons's needs to be contacted by law enforcement;
  • The condo should be closed off, no access, until the investigation is finished;
  • Law enforcement should consider bagging into evidence personal items of Perry's such as razor, toothbrush and other items they can later be tested for DNA (because we know he will not be cooperating)
  • Law enforcement should consider obtaining a warrant for Perry's phone and track if possible his activity and the same goes for his son's phone going back to March 12th. (they may have even switched phones that day)

If anyone has any information about this case they are asked to contact the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Robbery / Homicide Unit at 727-582-6200.

Patricia Mackenzie: Killed by Coward with a Badge

Patricia Mackenzie

This week Patricia Mackenzie, 55, Norfolk VA, was discovered murdered by her husband, a police lieutenant. In my opinion, his name is not important he now joins the rank and file of “murderer.” He killed his wife in cold blood before turning the gun on himself. A coward with a badge licensed to carry and use a gun.

As I read the newspaper account in the Virginian-Pilot, my blood boiled. As the daughter of a Chicago violent crimes detective, whose mother lost her life at the hands of my father before he too, turned the gun on himself, I cringed at the words regarding the killer “Bill was a wonderful person.” Obviously, he was not. So why even print that?

Violent offenders of intimate partner violence and ultimately homicide do not suddenly wake up one morning and decide to make a snap decision and kill their spouse. The tension in the relationship and anger builds up over a period time. Just because no one actually witnessed any violence or “saw signs of it coming” means that the offender was experienced at hiding who they really were to the world. And their victims, rarely, if even at all will disclose, especially if married to someone in law enforcement that they are on fear for their life.

The article goes on to say “they may never know the reasons why” he did this? In my opinion the answer is simple, he was a violent controlling offender. Patricia Mackenzie perhaps was making plans to end the marriage. It is likely for her own safety that she did not disclose the details to anyone. The "oh so" well liked by all “murdering Lieutenant” got wind of her plans and in true offender form took control of the situation because she was planning on leaving and murdered his wife.

These types of tragedies written more like a glorified obituary for the killer continue to perpetuate the stigma and misconception society as a whole places on the epidemic of intimate partner homicide.

If you want to write a story, how about covering the facts and offering solutions as it relates to the victims. Why not include in your story how experts such as myself are keeping these women alive or information regarding the "Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" and video in the book Time's up? I realize the headline makes for good ink in selling papers or traffic to a site, but responsible reporting is also important for those living in terror and fear. Especially when it relates to a victim involved in intimate police officer violence at the hands of a husband or boyfriend.

The final sentence in the coverage "He was somebody who, particularly as a lieutenant and sergeant - as a supervisor - was very fair," Amos said. "He would look out for his folks, make sure they were taken care of."

The article should have said, Patricia was murdered at the hands of someone who professed to love her. Our prayers go out to her friends and family. May she rest in peace.

I cannot stress enough, if you are in a relationship that has a history of violence, simply mustering up the courage to confront the person and say it is over, without the proper tools, can cost you, your life!
