Men Who Are Changing Victim's Lives,Part2

The Susan Murphy Milano Show welcomes back guests, Barry Goldstein and Ben Atherton-Zeman.  Joining them on Wednesday, March 24 will be Joe Samalin from Men Can Stop Rape.

Each of these men are involved in the movement to end domestic violence towards women.   They bring the message to all who will listen, especially other men, and join forces to proactively take a stance against family violence at all levels.

Ben Atherton-Zeman’s wildly popular play, “Voices of Men,” is performed all over the country on college campuses and for any event promoting the fight against violence.

Barry Goldstein is a former attorney and author of the book, “Scared to Leave Afraid to Stay,” an upcoming book "Domestic Violence, Abuse and Child Custody" as well as an advocate for women abused by their partners and sometimes the court system.

Joe Samalin,  with Men Can Stop Rape, provides agencies, schools, and organizations with direct services for youth, public service messaging, and leadership training.

Ben and Barry were well received on the previous show which aired on March 3, and we decided we need to spend another hour with them answering questions and phone calls on how men can be involved in the family violence arena.

Men's voices are needed in the fight against family violence that is escalating at a rapid pace within the homes and court rooms across America.  All three of these men have made strides to educate men, causing them to reflect and change their attitudes towards violence against women.  It's not a gender issue, it's a human issue, and violence in the family must come to an end.

The Susan Murphy Milano Show: The Tragedy in Tin Can Holler-3:00 PM CST/ 4:00PM EST

Our guest for the hour is, Rozetta Mowery, author of the acclaimed book "Tragedy in Tin Can Holler" which is a captivating, important, true story of a family's past transgressions. It reveals a family member who was a serial killer that got away with murder during the Great Depression, incest and child abuse, lies and betrayals, and domestic violence buried for decades!

The vicious murder of the author's mother haunted her for 48 years, but discovering the truth about her mother's murder was just the tip of the iceberg.

Ignoring Justice

The trial for Drew Peterson has been set for June 14, 2010. My less then favorite dickless wonder will finally stand trial for the murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio. In my opinion, the trial will be a tough road for prosecutors. Many mistakes were made from the beginning with the Bolingbrook police department while she was alive. Kathleen Savio fought an uphill battle for help as a victim of abuse. Under the old Will County administration domestic violence was treated with blatant disregard. Victims similar to Kathleen were literally kicked out of the courthouse and onto the streets.
State’s Attorney James Glasgow has been picking up the mess of mishandled cases left by the previous administration under the reign of former Will County State’s attorney Tomzak since he took office.

lf there was ever a blatant disregard for the life and safety of an abuse victim, it was Kathleen Savio. When her body was discovered in an empty bathtub on March 1, 2004, it marked failure by a legal system sworn to uphold justice and victory for an abuser whom 3 ½ years later in my opinion, would kill again.

When the trial begins in June the courthouse steps will be lined with camera crews and reporters covering the case. The local and cable news stations will be providing viewers with a blow by blow account of every remark, snicker, sneeze and free give-a-ways from chicken wings to personalized pens to those who get the correct camera angle of the shiny and just manicured legal defense attorney representing his client.

Now a Prosecuting States Attorney will attempt to seek justice for a victim of police involved domestic violence who lost her life back in 2004, in the very system that ultimately caused her death.

Men Who Are Changing Victim's Lives

Ben Atherton-Zeman and Barry Goldstein are but a few courageous men who stand up for the fight against violence to women.  Both have developed education and awareness campaigns to bring the information to the masses that, yes, there is an issue of violence towards women.  They bring this information to all who will listen through speaking engagements, books, teachings and, in Ben's case, a play titled "Voices of Men," a one man play working to end men's violence towards women.

Both Barry and Ben have taken a proactive stance against violence towards women from the shelter level to the court system, where often a battered woman is battered again.

Men's voices are needed in the fight against family violence that is escalating at a rapid pace within the homes and court rooms across America.  Both of these men have made strides to educate men, causing them to reflect and change their attitudes towards violence against women.  It's not a gender issue, it's a human issue, and violence in the family must come to an end.

Join Ben Atherton-Zeman and Barry Goldstein as my guests on The Susan Murphy Milano show Wednesday, March 3 at 4PM EST, 3PM CST for an educational discussion about how men have joined together to help stop the violence.
