In an age when Snooki (of "Jersey Shore" fame) can command over $30 grand to give a commencement speech to graduates at Rutgers, when someone like Liz Securro ("Crash Into Me") a past guest on my show, is asked to take no fees, Time's Up!
What has become of the value and self-worth of women? According to the new book, THINK: Straight Talk for Women to Stay Smart in a Dumbed-Down World by well known attorney and legal analyst (and Gloria Allred's daughter), Lisa Bloom, "The devastating global impact of women’s lack of interest in serious global news. “News directors tell me that they have to run stories on celebrity sex scandals, fashion, and new plastic surgery techniques because doing so is the only way to capture the female market,” Bloom attests."
With a nation (and world) of women who are more obsessed with knowing about Kim Kardashian's latest boyfriend, it's no wonder we are finding so many girls and women who suffer with low self-esteem, which, as we know, contributes to many other potential problems like addictions and becoming victims of violence.
Where are the women who are willing to stand up and really address the issues facing us today? Not just merely agreeing with popular opinion, or giving lip service and taking credit, but those who are truly working to make this world a better place!
Again, Bloom attests. “Wouldn’t it be great if the only way for the local news to increase their female ratings were to cover climate change in depth, to report on the modern-day abolitionists who are struggling to free enslaved girls, to update us on the millions of girls who don’t go to school at all, and to report on any number of other real stories that are worthy of our attention?”
Lisa's book not only points out how modern women have been "dumbed down," but for women who are outraged and motivated to make a personal change and a world of difference, THINK provides a realistic action plan, with very specific solutions.
I'm very honored and excited to have Lisa Bloom as my guest this Thursday on The Susan Murphy Milano Show, Time's Up!
What do you THINK?
