Brutal Crimes :The Media Malpractice in the Name of Color

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, On January 6th 2007, the lives of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom and their families were forever changed. Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom were two names you might not be familiar with, because you haven’t heard them muttered on Court TV, CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News. Instead you hear media darling names like: Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

Never mind the fact that 21 year old Channon Christian and 23 year old Christopher Newsom were kidnapped, murdered and gang raped, by a group of worthless, evil, slime bag, thugs. I guess a bunch of dumb, bimbo, brainless skanks, overdosing on drugs and getting drunk, is more important than Channon and Christopher, and the pure hell they went through at the hands of inhumane, sadistic, evil, killers.

According to news reports, Channon and Christopher had been dating two months. They were out on a date and had dinner. Channon called her mother and informed her mother that she was going to a friend’s house with Christopher to watch a movie. At some point during the night Channon and Christopher were hi jacked, bound and blindfolded and kidnapped. They were taken to the apartment of one of the suspects, Lemaircus Davidson. According to reports, at the apartment Christopher was raped as Channon watched in horror, afterwards he was shot multiple times and then his body was set on fire to dispose of evidence and he was dumped near rail road tracks not far from Davidson’s apartment.
Channon was reportedly held for two days, she was beaten, gang raped, and urinated upon. When the freaks were done with her, they poured bleach down her throat, shot her multiple times and then set her body on fire. Her body was found in a trash can inside Davidson’s apartment.
This week prosecutors have announced they are seeking the death penalty for the brutal murders that have repulsed those of us who have been following the case.
The 1st arrests in the case were not made until Jan 31st. That means a group of sadistic, vicious, murderers were walking free for 25 days until arrests were made, but apparently the fact that a dumb bimbo who contributed NOTHING to society, over dosed on drugs and dropped dead, was much more important and more deserving of media attention than trying to track down those responsible for the car jacking, rape and murders of Channon and Christopher!
Next time you see a news organization focusing on stories about celebrities shaving their hair, over dosing on drugs, being carried away in ambulances or drunk driving, please send them am email and remind them about the stories of REAL PEOPLE, who have suffered at the hands of violent crime, those who need a voice.
Channon was a medical technician at area hospitals and a senior sociology major at the University of Tennessee. Christopher had been talented baseball player for his high school. Both had bright futures ahead. But I guess Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan deserve our much needed attention? Not the victims of senseless, evil, inhumane crime. Suspects and indictments
The four out of five indicted are:
George Geovonni "Detroit" Thomas, 27, faces a total of 46 charges. Thomas was indicted on 16 counts of felony murder growing out of the rape, robbery, kidnapping, and theft of Christian and Newsom, 2 counts of premeditated murder, 2 counts of especially aggravated robbery, 4 counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, 20 counts of aggravated rape, and 2 counts of theft.

Lemaricus Devall "Slim" Davidson, 25, (b. June 13, 1981) faces the same 46 charges as Thomas. Davidson had also completed serving a five-year sentence in Tennessee on a previous felony conviction for carjacking and aggravated robbery on August 5, 2006.

Letalvis "Rome" Cobbins, 24, (b. December 20, 1982) also faces the same 46 charges as Thomas. In 2003, Cobbins was convicted of third-degree attempted robbery in New York state. He and Davidson are brothers.

Vanessa Coleman, 18, was arrested by police in Lebanon, Kentucky. She faces 40 Tennessee state charges. Coleman was indicted on 12 counts of felony murder growing out of the rape, robbery, kidnapping, and theft of Christian and Newsom, 1 count of premeditated murder (of Christian only), 1 count of especially aggravated robbery (of Newsom only), 4 counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, 20 counts of aggravated rape, and 2 counts of theft.

Further, Eric DeWayne "E" Boyd, 34, was arrested in connection with the fatal carjacking, though not indicted by the Knox County grand jury. Still, Boyd is charged in federal court as an accessory after the fact for helping the suspects evade the police. Later, Boyd was accused by Thomas and Cobbins of rape and murder, and a search warrant was obtained for his DNA.[22] The accusations have not resulted in charges.[23]
"The number of counts of rape has no correlation to the number of rapes that necessarily occurred. It just outlines each and every way that a rape might be possible or might have occurred. They won't be able to convict on all of those counts but they will have a selection from those counts to choose from," Attorney Don Bosch said.[24]

[] Trials
The four suspects indicted in Knox County were originally scheduled to be tried separately, at trials scheduled between May and August of 2008.[25] However, the trial date for the subjects indicted in Knox County was moved back to 2009 in February of 2008.[26] In an apparent attempt to force the prosecution to try the case with the least forensic evidence first, the attorneys for Thomas filed a motion for a speedy trial, arguing there was no forensic link between their client and the crime scene.[27]
District Attorney Randy Nichols has announced that the state would be seeking the death penalty for both Cobbins (currently the first to go to trial) and Coleman if convicted.[28][29] Davidson has also been indicted for a second robbery which was committed after the murders.[25] The publicity and false allegations made against the accused led the defense to argue that a change of venue was required in order to ensure a fair trial. However, the state argued that an impartial jury could be found during voir dire, and the presiding judge subsequently denied the motion as "premature."[30] Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Channon_Christian_and_Christopher_Newsom

Beautiful young adults tortured then murdered by animals who do not deserve to breathe clean air. Makes my heart ache. Our country has gone to a society when murder is no longer a big deal. But it is for these victims , their comminuty and families. I am outraged by the national media's sudden deafness in not reporting these tragedies.
