It is extremely rare for a mother to just take off out of the blue and leave her children. Especially if the mom is contemplating a divorce, consulted with a divorce attorney, has already filed paperwork with courts or ended the relationship.
When a relationship is in turmoil or there is violence a mother wants the relationship to end with the spouse or significant other, never with the children. They are "the every breathe" she takes in life. The kids are a mothers entire world. So it is disturbing to see and hear of cases where the mother simply vanishes without a trace. Vanishing mothers is a national epidemic!
And the reasons provided by spouses and boyfriends almost always the last to have contact or firsthand knowledge as to what happened, the script response when replying to the media or law enforcement is "she just took off." Often followed she was known to go." She suffered from bouts of depression. Whatever the response is often followed by the spouse or significant other securing the services of lawyer. And then it can go from a few days to months and years before law enforcement or someone in the media decides to look into the case again.
Earlier on the show "Time's Up" we featured such a case. Missing mother of three Tabitha Franklin, 28 who vanished on August 13, 2009 from Cullman, Alabama.
The last to see her was a boyfriend with whom she ended a violent relationship with, but because of threats and for the safety of the kids Tabitha maintained minimal contact.
The boyfriend of course lawyers up immediately. And the police who have no training in this town as it relates to missing persons and intimate partner violence and homicide are doing nothing. Tabitha's family has registered the case with the CUE Center for missing persons and a private investigator Chris Cantrell of C & C Investigations donating services to the family are now hot on the trail.
Unfortunately, in these cases, it takes outside services from caring individuals to work intimate partner missing persons cases and get results.
You are going to hear a lot about this case in the weeks ahead. To listen to today's broadcast on the case listen to the link below:
