Victimizing Victims and The Sale of an 8-Year Old Child into Human Trafficking

Earlier today while attending a meeting a colleague received a phone call regarding a victim of intimate partner abuse and the sale of her 8-year old daughter by the abusive father along with a "woman broker" he secured because she had a buyer in China for the child.

The mother, currently in an abusive relationship who has other children sought the assistance of law enforcement (who responded it was a family matter, refusing to make an arrest or fill out a police report) and a well known nationally established agency for help. The mother had been beaten and brainwashed by her abuser, if mom told anyone, he would make sure she would be killed or deported and never see any of her children.

She left a crime scene, her own home. Traumatized and in fear for her life and the imminent sale of her child she walked into the organization. The case worker followed "procedure" going down a list of agency and personal contacts.

The case worker made calls to a hotline, it was busy. She continued making calls and allowed the woman to leave her offices so she could pick up her kids and go to work at a mid size national hotel chain. She did provide her with a transportation and grocery voucher and schedule her to return in the morning for a court order of protection. Then, the case worker left to go home.

An hour later, the woman called the agency hysterical. The child broker sent by the father had come to the mothers place of employment for her signature a document that would seal the deal for the sale of an 8-year old child. The mother refused to sign.

Most of the afternoon and this evening I waited for the case worker to call me. My colleague and I continued to speak over the phone. Outraged in what was not happening I wanted an address to go and get the woman and her kids. In an attempt to calm me down, I received this email in the subject matter it said "You started a fire":

Hi Susan: This is the plan for now: at least the order of protection will enable law enforcement to move on this guy if he makes any move to abduct the girl, etc. Apparently, a woman came to the client's place of work, to pick up the child and to have the client sign away her legal rights of the child, so that this woman could sell the child for the husband. The client did not sign the document. Abduction is the next real possibility. Agent also said that whatever is on the pink form from the police department and also in the records of DV can be used to arrest the guy and send him back to Mexico; and meanwhile the client can get a U Visa to stay here in the US based on those DV records.
My question is why hasn't anyone arrested the father? How is that the child has not been taken into protective services by the state? Where is I.C.E., S.L.E.D, or FBI?

You want to know why victims of domestic die? Or why they don't just get up and leave the abuser?

The answers: incompetence and failure by the entire system.

Do you think this woman has a chance at returning back to those offices in the morning? Her husband has all night to plan and take whatever action he deems appropriate.

And the child? By dawn she could be already transported and on her way to the buyer in China.

It's sad but true: here in this country, people are being bought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves.

They are trapped in lives of misery—often beaten, starved, and forced to work as prostitutes or to take grueling jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay. We’re working hard to stop human trafficking—not only because of the personal and psychological toll it takes on society, but also because it facilitates the illegal movement of immigrants across borders and provides a ready source of income for organized crime groups and even terrorists.

When it comes to human lives, waiting on protocol can get you killed. Finally, I was asked by my colleague what could I do for this woman and her children? My response, what I have always done, whatever it takes, even if it is outside the box.

Susan Powell Case: Father-in-Law Takes Cheap Shot

Your daughter-in-law is missing and you participate in a national interview discussing specifics of an imaginary intimate relationship? The reporter asks if Steven Powell fell in love with her and he says, yes.

First and foremost, this is a missing mother, period. Who did not show up for work or drop off the kids at daycare, she vanished on December 6, 2009. Police go out to the marital residence and perform a wellness check. Josh Powell, the only suspect, is returning with their 2 children ages 2 & 4 claiming after midnight he and the boys went camping. Obviously Josh Powell made time before he left to run a large fan on the living room carpet which was still going when police arrived.

Susan had to be at work. She had a very good job. Her income was the main support for the family. She was also in the process of ending the marriage. Susan Powell would never allow her children to be woken from their warm beds, packed in a car to go camping at midnight.

Earlier today a team of law enforcement searched the home where Josh and the kids moved in with his father in Washington State. Mid week a mutual restraining order was issued between Chuck Cox and Josh Powell that they had to remain 500 feet from one another. Chuck Cox, Susan's father has not been allowed to see his grandchildren. A common punishment often administered by a suspect in cases of intimate partner violence and homicide.

Now the father-in-law is trying to raise doubt. A clever move by the fox guarding his hen house planting additional seeds of doubt, knowing his words will be used should this case ever be tried in a court of law. But the so called new details of "intimacy" places Steven Powell A.K.A. Steven Chantrey into the case of missing mother Susan Powell with greater significance.

It not uncommon for a suspect or the only person of interest to make remarks in intimate partner homicide cases going directly to mental stability, suicide, running off with another man, etc., it is an offender's pattern of conduct in these cases that is significant. This is the first time where I have seen a father and son tag team in a missing intimate partner case, slam a woman who likely lost her life by the actions along with direct knowledge of one or both individuals.

Remember, the last person to see any victim alive, in case of "missing intimate partner violence" always has the answers as to exactly what happened to make that person go missing in the first place!

Jounalist Isabelle Zehnder whom has covered this case from the beginning wrote an excellent article on the case: http://www.examiner.com/missing-persons-in-national/would-susan-cox-powell-run-off-with-a-man-emotionally-torment-friends-family

Theresa Parker 911

When we read about people vanishing from off the face of the earth without a trace, unless it effects us in some way, for example if we live in the town the person vanished from, or attended church service, they were a co-worker or lived our children were schoolmates, we do not pay attention.

For the immediate family, not locating the missing person or solving the crime that ultimately leads to the person responsible arrest and conviction, is at the very least, gut wrenching. Those directly affected, be it a parents, child aunt, cousin, are forever altered by this unthinkable act of human violation.

All too often, someone has an answer, but, they came be too afraid to come forward. Some case's have been recently solved some 36 years later. The person came forward because they were no longer afriad that the person responsible was going to do them harm.
As an example, Theresa Parker, a 911 Dispatch from Atlanta, Georgia, married to the former Sgt. Sam parker has not been seen since March of 2007. In February of 2008, Sam Parker was arrested for her murder. Parker, who was charged with murder on Feb. 4, has also been charged with making false statements, computer invasion of privacy and violation of oath by a public officer. He was incarcerated at the Floyd County jail following his arrest. According to court documents, Parker is being held in the Catoosa County jail, awaiting his trial.

Someone out there knows something. All they have to do is leave information without using their name so authorities can recover her body and bring her home for her family to provide Theresa with a proper burial. That is it. No questions asked. You can even contact me if you would like and I will make the call.

Please, I am asking the person who knows something to give the best Christmas present they can to a family who wants to bring their loved one home.

On Tuesday, Marilee Strong, author of "Erased" will be among the guests on Justice Interrupted, Tuesday, December 9, 2008. She discuss her book and why theee men murder their wives, instead of just giving them a divorce and walking out the door.
There is a sisterhood of sorts among police officer families. When a woman is murdered and married to someone in law enforcement, it hits close to my own home, in my own life.

Ken Huber Police Chief on Trial For Murder

Ken Huber, 42, is the former Chief of Police charged with the murder of his wife Pam Huber on October 28, 2007 (pictured above the prison stripes is a photo taken at the time of his arrest the other was taken just today as jury selection began in his trial for the murder of his wife, Pam.

This cowdly, tin, badge Chief, charged with first-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter, shot his wife Pam, once in the head with a .40-caliber pistol on Oct. 28, 2007, in their Highmore South Dakota home while her 11-year-old daughter slept next to her.

A criminal complaint obtained in October of 2007, outlined a series of complicated relationships including an affair between Ken Huber and a Hyde County State's Attorney by the name of Jennifer Lowrie that ultimately led to a conflict of interest in the case.

It should come as no surprise Ken was an abuser of physical and emotional abuse.
The night of the murder, according to the complaint, Jennifer Lowrie spoke with her "lover" Ken Huber about 10 p.m., for about 50 minutes on Oct. 28, 2007, on the night of the shooting.
Ken Huber waited until midnight and then the coward called 911 and reported that his wife had been accidentally shot while he had been moving a gun.

How can a trained expert in Glock guns and Chief of Police use the excuse "accidental shooting" as a defense? Basically, Huber is a coward.
Jury selection began today. It is likely Ken Huber will rot in a jail cell, as he should for the murder of Pan Huber.
