Tiffany Hartley: "The Devil is in the Details!"

On the Afternoon of September 30, 2010, the national media covered the story of David Hartley on Falcon Lake while he and his wife Tiffany were jet skiing, it was reported David was shot and killed.

A time line before and after a crime is important for any investigation.  In the tragedy of David Hartley there is not much of a time line from when the couple was pulled over for expired registration on their jets skis to the time when Tiffany appears on land to place a call for help in Texas to 911.  Starting with Tiffany Hartley's Facebook page  as it shows activites prior to the 911 call.

Tiffany Young-Hartley Entry June 20, 2010 at 10:36 PM-- Had a busy weekend, were moving out of Mexico and heading across the border to McAllen, TX. Not completely moved but were a lot closer. Got to enjoy the Jet Skies this morning then Davids skie broke, so our trip was cut short:( came home to move more stuff. Sure will be nice when were done moving and hopefully it will be for more than 7 months. June 20 at 10:36pm ·

(We know that on or about June 20th the couple moved across the border to Texas.)

Entry on June 28, 2010 at 10:31 pm Getting ready for Hurrican Alex!! This is a little weird, praying that we won't lose power and that we don't get water in the house, expecially since we just bought new furniture.

Entry on June 29, 2010 at 2:31 pm Why is it when you have service companies like AT&T coming to the house to hook up internet and phone, they tell you that they will be there sometime between 8 and 5. What... can't they give you a more specific time. Do they think I have all day to wait for them!

Entry on August 22, 2010 at 2:18 PM Who says church is boring, What a great message, our pastor had us all laughing most of the service. Praise God for pastors who aren't afraid of speaking it as it is and who doesn't mind putting his pride aside to make people laugh even if it's about himself.

Entry on September 11, 2010 at 6:07 PM Thank you to all of you who have and are serving this great nation of ours. Today is a day of remembering and not forgetting. I love this country and am proud to be an AMERICAN. So lets all go back to 9 years ago today and remember where we were and how we felt. Lets all come together once again and be united the w...ay we were 9 years ago on 9/11. God Bless the USA.

Last Entry 4 days before David Hartley goes missing- Entry September 26, 2010 at 6:49 PM --Had a great vacation in Key West, FL. Thanks to my husband who works so hard so we can get away from life for awhile. Great pick Babe!!!! Saw a couple sharks while diving, got to pet a Manatee by the Harbor walk. Just a few of the highlights of our trip. (she includes pictures)

September 26th was a Sunday.  As we see by the final entry she is thanking her husband, publicily and, in my opinion, it seems rather out of place given there are no other such entries to be found, and because it is so close to his missing, she goes an extra mile to let us know how hard her husband works.

I am listing the details of her Facebook page to also show a "pattern of conduct" prior to calling 911.

September 30th at approximately 11:30 am The Texas Department of Public Safety released video footage of David and Tiffany Hartley. It was taken just hours before the murder on Falcon Lake. It shows DPS troopers pulling over the Hartley’s at 11:30 a.m. in Rio Grande City. That’s about three hours before Tiffany claims Mexican pirates killed her husband on Falcon Lake. Troopers pulled them over for an expired registration sticker on their trailer, but after 10 minutes ket the couple go. And DPS troopers actually pulled over David and Tiffany Hartley on their way to Falcon Lake.

The two jet skis in the police video can be seen on a trailer.  From the dashcam both jet skis are visable. The missing jet ski that Tiffany claims was the one David was riding because she said it was faster, registration number is  TX3671AX ( but that is the one she has now in her posession and that is not possible if David was riding it at the time he was shot), jet ski purchased, on June 1 of 2009 .. Her jet ski is the one that is missing.  Missing ski, registration number is TX8430KA. It was purchased on June 10, 2008 .

In a photo, after Tiffany returns without David, the jet ski on the drivers side that was hers is missing and the one David was on is in the photo in a newsclip on the passengers side and that was his jet ski.

How is it possible that Tiffany Hartley has a jet ski she claims is missing and also belonged to David?  She now has the more powerful and faster jet ski.  Tiffany returns without David and the media and the Sheriff continue to give, in my opinion, this woman a pass.

The devil, as they say, is in the details of this case. In my opinion, Tiffany Hartley played a role overtly or otherwise in the disappearnce of David Hartley.  She is not legally a widow.  She is no different than other cases of foul play where bodies suddenly vanish without explaination or killed,  women and men whose husbands or wives were the last persons to have seen them alive; Stacy Peterson, Lisa Stebic, Theresa Parker, Renee Pernice, Vensus Stewart, Lort Hacking, Laci Peterson, Christine Rudy, Cheryl Keeton, elissa Mendoza, Janet March, Michael Tapley, Matthew Houbrick, Charlie Bateson, James Nibble and Matthew Winkler, is a small sample of those who take till death do us part literally.

There is still no reward being offered for any information that leads to the recovey or arrest of those responsible for the disappearance of David Hartley.  On the http://www.bringdavidhome.com/ site created by the not-a-legal-widow Tiffany, all you read is ranting about border patrol, drug cartel and issues that do not pertain to justice for David Hartley.  When I see this garbage posted on a website created for a missing person, personally, it is a slap in the face for all of victims of crime.  There is not even a tag word on the side in yellow font listing David Hartley's name. And the site is asking for donations, minus a reward for David Hartley

A Facebook page has been created by those wanting justice for a man who has been silenced - in memory of David Hartley - please join the page and consider asking others to join.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bring-David-Hartley-Justice/114682475266018

Peter Hyatt, myself, and others will continue investigating, reviewing statements to uncover the truth about what did not happen per the so called account of one Tiffany Hartley in Falcon Lake on September 30, 2010.

Tiffany Hartley: Part 3 A Call To Action

by Susan Murphy Milano and Peter Hyatt

If you or I were asked to take a polygraph to clear any suspicion in an alleged murder of a child, husband or crime, without hesitation, we would jump at the opportunity to facilitate whatever means possible to remove all doubt as a possible person of interest or suspect and expedite the investigation. This has been the call of sense from Adam Walsh, Marc Klass, and others for years. It is something that can be done within an hour, and allows investigators to move on past innocent family members and further the investigation. Men like Walsh and Klass urge families to polygraph immediately, even pressing law enforcement to move as quickly as possible.

In an interview with Jane Valdez Mitchell- Tiffany Hartley says:
HARTLEY: I can`t even describe the pain and the fear that I had of when I turned him over. I didn`t know what to expect, you know. Of course I was hoping maybe a shoulder or something. But I didn`t know what to expect, and I was sure not expecting that he would be shot in the head.

Don't interpret Tiffany's words; just listen to her.

She is telling us that she will is unable to describe what happened in hopes that we will just take her word for it thus allowing her to move on and discuss the border issues, pirates and the Mexican cartel. Since then, she has added the issue of illegal aliens taking jobs away from Americans, a provocative and emotional issue.
She has draped her cause in religious language, eliciting sympathy from Christians.

Tiffany Hartley is unable to describe what happened because it may implicate her.

“I didn’t know what to expect, you know, of course I was hoping maybe a shoulder or something.”

"you know" is a habit that enters language when someone is stalling for time to think.
"of course" is employed when a subject wants us to accept what is being said.

"I was hoping maybe a shoulder"

Huh?

What does this mean?

Tiffany Hartley was hoping for a "shoulder" hit? Investigators should look at this unusual language to learn if Tiffany Hartley is experienced in handling weapons, and in particular, hunting. "a shoulder" sounds like hunting language, and when she added "of course" it sounds premeditated; she thought about where she would like him to be shot.

Note the inclusion of thoughts within the story. When thoughts and/or emotions are added to an account, in "the perfect place", it is a strong signal of deception. Why?

It takes a long time to process what happened during a tragedy. Law enforcement has learned through decades of research that only the guilty and deceptive will add thoughts and emotions into an account as an attempt to persuade rather than report. When someone goes through a tragedy, the hormonal rush means "fight" or "flight" and there is not an inclusion of thoughts and emotions as the subject is on raw survival. When thoughts and emotions are included, it may come after the "event" in an account, but when it is included in the "perfect place", i.e, during the event, we are staring at deception.

As the subject works on recall, the "thinking" process came afterwards, which is why a report has 3 basic sections:

1. Introduction
2. Event
3. Post Event

The breakdown will come naturally, as truthful accounts will have a short introduction (what happened leading up to the event) of about 25% of the account.

The event is the most important part of the report and takes up about 50% of the account. In a truthful report, this section is void of thoughts and emotions.

Post Event is what happened afterwards, including callng 911. At this part of the report, some will include thoughts or emotions, especially if safety is reached. This will only be about 25% of the account. Any major deviations from this breakdown indicate deception "on its form". But the inclusion of thoughts and emotions within the main event also show deception. This is where Tiffany said the "pirates" were close enough to hear them and that "they decided to leave" in some of her accounts.

HARTLEY: It`s hard being judged and thought of that I might have done something to him, but I -- like I said, I know what I know. And as long as I, you know -- I know the truth, God knows the truth. And other than that, it almost doesn`t really matter it to me, because I know what happened that day.

Note several things within this statement:

"like I said" is a self-reference
"I might have done something to him" is found within her statement
"it almost doesn't really matter" has two qualifiers, "almost" and "really", showing that it very much does matter.

So why not take a law enforcement administered polygraph? If it is hard to be judged, end it with a law enforcement administered polygraph.

http://archives.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1010/08/ijvm.01.html

Drew Peterson, like a bad recording said “I know the truth” and I recall when Nancy Grace asked him during an interview she said then tell us the truth Sgt. Peterson and in pure Peterson style he ended the conversation before commercial with "God knows the truth". He claims Stacy Peterson ran off in a red bikini and $25,000 in cash. That is the story he has told from the day Stacy Peterson vanished on October 27, 2007.

Nearly 3 years later, a petite woman tells the tale of how she was shot at, not certain if she was behind, in back, alongside or in front when she saw, heard or knew bullets were being fired. She went back from someplace to get somewhere to turn him over to see the back, front, ultimately leaving him there and hearing that voice from God to just leave while bullets were flying and escaped. And how she knew if it happened on the Mexican or Texas side is anyone’s guess, but the constant repetition of "on the Mexico side; on the Mexico side" shows just how sensitive and important it was to Tiffany that everyone know that "this" did not happen on the US side; giving US authority to investigate. She made this clear from the moment she got out of the water, first to the 911 operator, and then repeatedly in interviews.
In criminal law "Overt Act" is defined as , an overt act , an open act, one that can be clearly proved by evidence, and from which criminal intent can be inferred, as opposed to a mere intention in the mind to commit a crime. Therefore, it is an act that, while innocent per se, can potentially be used as evidence against someone during a trial to show his/her participation in a crime. For instance, a rental of a van and a purchase of a gun are overt acts as part of an assassination.

The overt acts of Tiffany Hartley, once properly investigated by authorizes will help guide the investigation and open up many doors for exploration. We are not amused by her shopping spree, or her juvenile emotional posts or her shopping sprees. We are alarmed at how few in media have asked strong questions of the only known eye witness into the disappearance of a young man. We want an answer to our question:

Is Tiffany Hartley involved in the shooting of David Hartley?em>
This is the question that needs to be answered. In the United States, all of us have the presumption of innocence in a court of law.Tiffany Hartley is judicially innocent of the disappearance of David Hartley. This must be the presuppostion for her, and for everyone else. This is how our judicial system works.

An investigation needs to be done. David's family deserves this much.

Tiffany: Call the FBI and volunteer to take a polygraph administered by them! Tell your followers on Facebook that you wil do this today. Show your love for David that you profess publicly.

You have taken this case public and have given us the right to question your story. Unlike the Zapata County Sheriff's Office, we do not simply accept your word for it, or any other single witness' word on any murder case.

"Trust, but verify".

AS for the current elected Sheriff, let us remind him that he took an oath.

On their Website it says: "The mission of the Zapata County Sheriff's Office is to maintain social order and provide professional law enforcement services to citizens in the community, including, but not limited to, victims of crime, the elderly, and the youth, within prescribed ethical, budgetary, and constitutional constraints. This office strives to enforce the law and maintain order in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing the need for justice, and consistent appearance of justice."

David Hartley was a victim of a crime and he lived in Texas. He was a US citizen and deserves justice. His family deserves justice; something all US citizens expect.

And unless it can proven otherwise he died somewhere in Texas, either on land or in water. If the call placed to 911 was received by an emergency operator in the United States, then this is wherethe jurisdiction of that call goes to. It a referral is needed, it comes from Zapata County.

We have spent considerable time outlining facts in the murder of David, and as a sworn public official of that office the Sheriff likely needs a bit of assistance from the public at large.

First, paperwork should be filed immediately on David Hartley as a missing person. This is something his family can do, without Tiffany which will have David Hartley’s case entered in missing person’s database and eventually www.nameus.gov.; and then onto an formal investigation.

Resources and budget constraints should not be an issue in this case as numerous agencies i.e. the Attorney General’s Office, homeland security and the FBI are awaiting your telephone call for assistance and funding you may require for this case.

Next, Law Enforcement must call out Tiffany Hartley with a public request for a polygraph. Since she has designated herself as a "voice" for America, and is now on a public mission, let the call to clear herself also be public. Should she decline, the family will process this and continue on to press for an investigation into his disappearance.

We can all write to Zapata County Sheriff's Office and insist upon an investigation and remind them that as a citizen of the United States, David Hartley deserves this much.

Gov. Rick Perry has been outspoken on this case, we can write to him and demand an investigation and justice for David. He can assign this for investigation.

Until we see a formal investigation and justice for David Hartley, we will not rest.

Tiffany Hartley: A Call To Action: Part 2

by Susan Murphy Milano and Peter Hyatt

On part one here yesterday, we challenged the media to ask some important questions including treating this woman, Tiffany Young-Hartley as at the very least a person of interest.

We have been encouraged by the responses to a call to action thus far, and encourage any journalist who treasures the word "investigative" with their title, to respond.

Levi Page is one such journalist who has committed himself to justice; though not always in step with popular media hosts, he has refused to turn a deaf ear to the obvious and join in calling Tiffany Hartley "courageous" or a "voice" for America. He will continue to cover the case, also seeking justice for David Hartley and his family, on The Levi Page Show on BlogTalk Radio.

Journalists, with dogged determination, can dig and dig until the truth, no matter what it is, is uncovered.

But what of law enforcement?
If a man drove up on a jet ski and called 911 to report that his wife had been gunned down by Mexican "pirates", and he told a tale where he portrayed himself as a hero, even in the face of an onslaught of bullets hailing all around him, but finally, reluctantly, and with the voice of God, was forced to abandon his wife, would a sheriff have simply taken his word for it?

Had he said, "don't bother to search, my wife's on the Mexican side", would law enforcement simply said, "ok, case closed"?

Would Sheriff Gonzalez take one look at him, untouched by bullets (and without a single nick on his jet ski) and said, "I can tell he is an honest man. No need for a polygraph."?

What if he said that ruthless drug cartels "decided" after killing his wife, to just let him go? Would that not raise an eyebrow or two?

How about afterwards: let's say this same man, a day or two later, contacted media and went from talk show to talk show: Would his words matter to you?

What if he announced that his wife was the love of his life, but it was time to move on?

What if he said he knew his wife would have wanted him to see the world, do some serious Black Friday shopping, and "live the life" a month after her murder?

Sheriff Gonzalez, would you feel a bit queasy on this one? What if the same man declined any call for justice for his slain wife, but only wanted her body back.

Would you still be able to retain the respect of your deputies even after ignoring this blaring red flag and all the others?

Sheriff Gonzalez, it is time to think about your actions.

What did Gonzalez have to gain by taking Tiffany's word that her husband's body is on the "Mexico" side; even though they were racing as fast as the jet ski could take them (60mph?) towards home? Was there a sort of marker in the water in which Tiffany could see the demarcation? Would any law enforcement personnel in the country just take a person's word for it, without verification?

For law enforcement here is what must be investigated.

There is an insurance policy within the company David Hartley was employed.

Law enforcement 101: check with human resource people within CalFrac Well Services to see if she inquired as to what they need for a pay-out. Go back 6 months and ask some questions.

And it might also include a double indemnity clause as an insurance benefit provision or addendum. Tiffany Hartley likely is the sole beneficiary. This information is not public record and must be obtained from the company in which he was employed. It is easy enough to get: investigative subpoena will do the trick. Separately check also with the policy holder directly for any communication prior to David Hartley vanishing.

Cell phone records: both those of David and Tiffany Hartley. She also likely used his phone at different times. Also check on the computer activity used from the cell phone and go back as far as 9 months of activity. It is likely you will not see much activity 30 days before David vanished; but go back a bit further. This was not random, but showed planning and alibi building at least a month earlier, likely many months.

Next: Cell phone usage after David vanished.

If his cell phone was in the truck that day and it was a company phone was it returned to the company was it used? Cell tower activity on all phones especially 4 weeks prior to the date she left the area. Current cell phone activity should be investigated.

We still haven't left Investigation 101.

Journalists, are you listening?

Ever hear of the Freedom of Information Act?

Do you want to hear the complete 911 call? Did Tiffany have you at "hello", even though you have read the FBI's own litmus test for guilty homicide callers? Do you still wish to refer to her as "cute"?

Obtain computer activity from David’s computer and Tiffany’s computer. Subpoena email activity records from the Internet carrier. Search for records must include google map activity and skype connect calls (that is often missed in intimate partner crimes.)

Tiffany was employed, but where? Check her computer activity at her place of employment. Also if there is a library where the couple lived or Internet access at a local cafe it should be checked.
David Ramsey- Tiffany sought the assistant of radio and financial expert Dave Ramsey and she met him in person. Also Tiffany thanked Dave Ramsey for his advice. The couple was obviously lived past their means if they went to Dave Ramsey. I would investigate if the jet skis were owned free and clear or did they owe money on them. In an interview, ask Tiffany to explain what "the life" means to her?

You may be surprised at just how much she reveals.

Obtain the registration of both jet skis and put out an alert for the missing skis.

How about a reward?

Investigate which jet skis Tiffany actually has, hers or David’s. Place a stolen warrant in the system for the missing jet skis it is likely it could turn up. Place the warrant for the skis in both Mexico and the United States. The one Tiffany returned to tell her story was indeed registered to David M. Hartley (this information was obtained from the police stop earlier on the video dash cam as it showed the back of the trailer where they were transporting skis.)

Investigate friends of Tiffany Hartley at her work and David’s in the area or other wives whose husbands worked for CalFrac Well Services. I would check both English and non English employees spouses. If she spoke Spanish fluently Tiffany may have kept that quiet.

Investigate any Western Union activity within 60 days of David vanishing. Unusual charges to credit cards both she and David Hartley’s. Federal express records of ingoing and outgoing packages need to be reviewed through the time she left, especially in Mexico.

This is not complicated. It is long, boring arduous work.

It is also something that investigators love.

Why?

Because it is often the tiny, overlooked detail that brings out the truth.

Had a man emerged from Falcon Lake sans wife claiming to have been in a hail of bullets with not a single one of them hitting him or his jet ski, yet scoring a perfect head shot on his wife,

would law enforcement and media turned a deaf ear, and a blind eye, to justice for the missing?

It is time.

In part 3, if more journalists will not step up and law enforcement will continue to shrug their collective shoulders, then it shall be time for the public to take some action.

Drew Peterson Case: Defense Plays Possum

Once again, the lead legal marshmallow roaster on the Drew Peterson  defense team continued to strike below the belt in the search by Illinois State Police Investigators for Stacy Peterson in Peoria, Illinois. The legal roaster is asking a judge to require the State to provide the investigative reports related to the downstate dig.

The State police, by the way, received one hell of a hot lead into where Stacy Peterson, in my opinion, could have been buried.  I mentioned in an earlier post, if you follow the letter written and postmarked on November 12, 2007, just 16 days after Stacy vanished, you will likely find a body. In my opinion, the letter was Peterson’s way of providing the most valuable clue but it was missed until 33 months later when State Police received a more than solid lead.

No different than the chicken wings once offered to a handful of Chicago patrons and the media from the legal marshmallow roaster, he is behaving more like a human chicken, flapping his arms and mouth demanding to know what Illinois State Police uncovered during the search. It is doubtful the judge will grant the release of the reports as it does not relate to the impending murder trial, just days away, of wife #3 Kathleen Savio.

The Herald quoted my favorite marshmallow roaster as saying "The state police finally have it right," he said. "Stacy is playing possum."

The definition of a possum according to Wikipedia:
A possum (plural form: possums) is any of about 69 small to medium-sized arboreal marsupial species native to Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi (and introduced to New Zealand and China). The name derives from their resemblance to the opossums of the Americas. The term "possum" is also used in North America as a short form of "Opossum".
Possums are quadrupedal diprotodont marsupials with long tails. The smallest possum, indeed the smallest diprotodont marsupial, is the Little Pygmy Possum with an adult head-body length of 70mm and a weight of 10g. The largest is the Bear Cuscus that may exceed 7 kg. Possums are typically nocturnal and at least partially arboreal. The various species inhabit most vegetated habitats and a few species have adjusted well to urban settings.

He should know his own brain has been playing possum a long time now. And for the record, so has any reasonable legal defense of his client.

Behind The One Way Mirror: Robin Sax

Veteran prosecutor Robin Sax is a former deputy district attorney who was with Los Angeles County Distrist Attorney's office specializing in sex crimes against children. Robin has witnessed first hand the devastating toll these crimes take on innocent children, some so young they are barely able to see the top of a kitchen counter.

When we watch Nancy Grace or Larry King on CNN talk about the latest abduction, murder or sexual assualt against a child the general public doesn't see much other than what is being reported on a crime. We hope and pray when a child is found the person responsible is brought to justice. But, beyond that society doesn't think much more about the justice system unless the case is being covered in the news or televised. Then we see the talking heads debating the strength and outcome of the case. And cases involving children are never televised.

Up until a few months ago Robin Sax was the "heartbeat" for justice when in came to prosecuting child sexual assault cases. Now with her new book titled "It Happens Everday inside the life of a Sex Crimes D.A.", readers will gain insight into a world only prosecutors understand, that is until, now.

Robin provides a view in this amazing book of what goes right and what also go wrong in the prosecuting of these cases. And in a language all her own Robin Sax tells readers like it is within the system. A legal system that unless we make changes, the very children whom we are trying to protect that will lose in the end.

Dividing the book into two parts, she begins with "Behind the One-Way Mirror," which deals with the investigation portion of child sexual assault. She defines exactly what constitutes sexual assault and then presents the ingredients of what makes a case "fileable." She also explains why some cases never get filed.

In the second part, "Behind the Counsel Table," Robin sheds light on the whole court process. She discusses a range of issues, including mandatory sentencing, plea bargains, unsupportive parents, using children's testimony to prosecute the perpetrator, DNA evidence, the importance of corroboration, and the weaknesses of the jury system.

Her first authored book equally important for all parents is "Predators and Child Molesters" with a forward written by Marc Klaas, Klaas Kids Foundation.

To me being safe is more important than buying the lastest fashion or spending money on items you really don't need. Safety of our children is easier when we take the time to pick up information and learn as parents how to keep our kids safe. Robin Sax's information is similar to "boot camp guide for parents. Hey maybe that should be the title of her next book!

Either way the books are available in books stores and on Amazon.com. If your local library does not have a copy or two on their shelves politely ask the librarian to order it. Tell them Susan suggested it!

"Death in Their Eyes"

Mary is a 51 year- old mother of 3 who will be officially divorced this week after 22 years of marriage.

Her road to life without abuse similar to millions of others in her situation will continue to be difficult. This morning as she was moving into her new home, Mary felt uneasy about her safety. "He's not done with me. I know he will kill me or make it look like an accident. I am terrified." While waiting for the alarm company installer to arrive Mary and I went over safety issues to implement and watch for in her new home.

We walked around the outside of the house with a handyman she hired to secure the windows by placing hinges on the inside removing all the screens replacing then with storm windows. We marked all the doors to be replaced with deadbolts not only on each door but included the screen storm doors, and side door of the garage. Once the alarm company arrived we strategically discussed the placement of the wireless system. In Mary's situation because her husband is angry and violent and has thtretened to take her life the alarm company also wired the garage and extra windows leading into the basement. It cost several hundred dollars extra but it was well worth it.

The alarm company installer suggested that the entire landscape of bushes, or large plants near any of the widows be either cut very low or removed entirely. So that no one could hide. Then Mary and I went to Menards and bought motions lights for the outside of the home and various timers for lights inside the house.

Her husband was scheduled to pick up their son for dinner after I left. I received a text message from Mary, "when he got here he came after me and I had to call the police-they refused to arrest him and I insisted a report be made-Susan he had the look of death in his eyes and he told me I'll never make it to court alive on thursday-he said if I drop divorce he'll forgive me and we can stay married. "

The safety strategies I have implemented for Mary are specific to her abuser and how handy he is at breaking and entering into places always without anyone seeing him. His anger is at a very dangerous level and Mary has a 50/50 chance at staying alive if she remains calm and on guard at all times. And it is a lot of work, but it is possible.

Often a woman is killed because she was not prepared to defend herself. Or the courts refuse to issue an order of protection or police do not feel they have enough to make an arrest. Regardless, a woman fights for the system to do its' job and to basically while continuing to fight the abuser when no one is looking , then fight for her kids and her life. I think about women like Kathleen Savio, the third wife of Drew Peterson. Was there an alarm in the home? If yes why wasn't it activated? Drew Peterson is not only a trained police officer but a skilled locksmith. Did he sneak in while she was sleeping? Did Peterson catch Kathleen off guard at a time of night when it was least expected? Did he sneak into the house and pull a gun on her? Did Kathleen and Drew Peterson struggle? In my opinion like criminal profilers, these are cases that I study in hopes of keeping other women alive.

As a society we have a long way to go before we treat domestic violence in the home as a crime. And then just maybe in high school classrooms we can replace how to correctly use a condom with how to know the signs of an abuser and how to stay safe and what to do if you are in an abusive relationship.

If you have ended a relationship, change those locks, immediately! And do a walk around your home. Remove any ladders, make sure the garage is locked, put away any tools. And yes, even rearrange your living space. What about your windows and sliding glass doors? Get yourself over to the hardware store and find the best cost effective method to bars and locks for these areas.
What about a Do? Don't have a dog? Go ahead and buy or make a Dog Beware sign and put it in your windows.Another great tip is to record the sound of a barking dog. If you don't have a dog, take a recorder and head to the nearest dog shelter and tape the barking sounds. Go ahead and even record your phone voice and message right there on the spot, at the dog shelter. Say something like" Okay Sparky, I'm on the phone, that's enough, be quiet, sorry can't come to the phone please leave a message .Then head home and play it into your phone message system. Then strangers and others you are trying to keep away will think you have dogs and that may deter them. You can also play a recoding each time you answer your telephone with just the sounds of a barking dog. What about a basic home security system? This goes hand in hand with the other security solutions above. To learn more about systems here is an alarm link:http://www.homeimprovementmag.com/Articles/2006/06May_safe_@_home.html If you keep a spare key outside someplace-stop it now! Never leave a key anywhere outside your home.If you are not expecting anyone or anything to arrive at your door, do not open the door. If the bell continues to ring waiting for you to answer the door and you do not know who it is, call 911.And never, ever leave any type of note on your door or mail box for anyone. Either text message them, send an email or do it the old fashioned way and call them.
