What Would Susan Say: Where's Stacy?

Is it ironic that on October 28, 2007 Stacy Peterson was never heard from again, silenced in the prime of her life, most likely at the hands of her husband Drew because of the secrets she held so long?

On October 28, 2012, another Sunday morning, exactly 5 years later, another voice, Susan Murphy Milano, was silenced in the prime of her life, taken by the hands of an abusive disease, because of the secrets she held so long that caused pain and stress in her life and contributed to her disease.

What would Susan say?

After a week of being in the fog zone, with time being insignificant, you can almost hear Susan shouting,

"Ok, enough about me already! You all have work to do! It's not about me, you know where I am, but, how are you going to find Stacy?"

From the beginning days of the Stacy Peterson case Susan was deeply affected, not only because she recognized the fact that Stacy most likely wasn't coming back, but because she saw similarities between Drew Peterson and her police officer father, the smug attitude and the fact that each of them thought they could get away with what they had done behind closed doors.

Immediately Susan picked up on the nuances of the case, before national media attention, and made no bones about what she wrote, sympathetic to the family members, but calling out what she saw from first hand experience living with an abusive cop. She saw through Peterson and his "Legal Marshmallow Roaster" attorney and knew exactly what they were up to, doing everything to divert attention away from Stacy.

In the midst of the circus of media, online forums, and news reports was a young mother, Stacy, who held within her being a secret she hoped would be more of an insurance policy. Stacy confided this secret and most likely lost her life because of it.

Because of Stacy, Susan was inspired to create the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit. Had Kathleen Savio had the opportunity to create her own EAA, perhaps Stacy would still be around. Had Stacy done the EAA, the public would not have been subjected to the years of buffoonery created by Drew Peterson and his campfire team of attorneys and public relations ringmasters.

Peterson’s pattern of conduct and actions are important as it relates to Stacy Peterson. She can be placed in the marital home the morning she disappeared, so we know she and Peterson were in that house. From Sunday morning until the following day, there is a window of opportunity for Peterson, and when the coast is clear, in my opinion, he takes her out of the house. How far is he really going to drive? Does he go to one of two camp grounds with which he is familiar within an hour’s drive of the house? Does he go to a more obvious and public location, perhaps in plain site and one that is familiar to him? We do not know because Stacy Peterson is still out there someplace waiting to be found.......Stacy Peterson's Tragedy: Saving the Lives of Others, October 27, 2011

Now that Drew has been convicted of the murder of his previous wife, Kathleen Savio, and we see the latest news about appeals and possibly a second circus act, Susan would want us to remember the most important fact:

STACY PETERSON IS STILL MISSING.

Whatever the significance of the October 28 date may be, it's no coincidence in the universal order. It's a date that both Susan and Stacy will be remembered in the future, somehow still connected to each other.

The world has the opportunity to change the way intimate partner violence and homicide is handled, something Susan vowed she would do in 1989.  The challenge is: "Who Can Fill Her Shoes?"

On October 28, 2012, Susan Murphy Milano lost her battle with cancer.

Her latest book, a "true crime memoir" based on the experiences of her life, HOLDING MY HAND THROUGH HELL, was released earlier in the month.

Diane Ward: A Master Manipulator Vs. Intimate Partner Homicide

On November 8, 2011 a sentencing hearing is scheduled for Bob Ward 63 yrs. old, a wealthy developer convicted of 2nd-Degree murder of his wife Diane, by a Florida jury last month.

Ward faces a 25 years to life sentence and given his age he will likely die in prison. There was a lot of nasty speculation and blaming taking place no doubt by supporters of a man who killed his wife of 25 years in cold blood. A common theme known as "victim bashing" repeated across the country in a number of intimate partner violence cases that result in homicide.

These individuals hold masters degrees in manipulation. Behind closed doors their training begins with emotional abuse by chipping away at the mental well-being of their victim. Once the skill is somewhat perfected they often practice on other members of their immediate family and close friends. The picture they paint is slanted. When they go out as a couple should anything appear or sound out of place the offender seizes the moment to make it appear as if she is crazy. Or they tell stories over a long period of time setting the foundation for "things" changing in the relationship.

A "man's-man" never expresses emotions or feelings that are often attributed to women. Real me don't break in public. So when the clever psychopath opens up (tissue please) to those around him it is taken seriously. Factor in the offenders occupation and work ethic followed by a few Glen Grant scotch's served neat while enjoying a Davidoff Gran Cru cigar and you have the perception of a pussycat not a lady killer. Let's not forget a wonderful attentive and caring father, friend and employer.

He makes remarks like "I don't know whats wrong with her." "You know she is drinking more and more each day." "I am afraid to come for fear of what I will find." "I am being attacked in my own home." "She is crazy and needs help. "All I want is to be happy. I work my ass to provide, ya know?"

In between all of this she the victim is isolated from once close friends, family and her own children." The children caught in the middle and if old enough will comment "Why are you so mean? Why are you making dad crazy?" Instead of identifying to what was already happening before they learned to walk.

Why would anyone throw their life away when they have it all? Why didn't Bob Ward walk away? Because it's never the hand of cards an abuser hold. Fold-em and walk away; translation failure to be a "man."

Unless the perception set-up months and perhaps years before that "she" drove him to the ultimate action that resulted in murder. And he could take comfort in being absolved or forgiven by those closet to him.

News Flash: No one drives anyone to pull a trigger and commit murder. The one who pulls the trigger has planned and plotted over a long period of time. Abusers are thieve's gathering in the thousands in our society, taking away the very lives of their wives and mothers of their own children. Behind closed doors where no one can witness their behavior and actions.

It is difficult to comprehend a parent capable of killing anyone when they are so attentive and loving to everyone else, but the victim. This is key to the thousands of intimate partner homicide cases we hear and read about as the victims voice is forever silenced.

On September 24, 2011 a jury listened and Diane Ward's voice was heard. The case weighed heavily on the 911 call where Bob Ward says 5 times "I just shot my wife."

The defense attorney commented after the verdict was read, throwing-out remarks regarding the Casey Anthony trial, implying the verdict was based on a vendetta of sorts as if to say the Orange County Florida jury was swayed over that case's outcome and his client paid for it.

Intimate Homicide is a crime. Whether or not anyone loved, liked or could have cared less that Diane Ward died. No one has the right to take a persons life.

Taking center stage, is but one man, whom with taxpayer money is allowed to live, Diane Ward will never have that opportunity!

Just because you are not physically hurt in your relationship does not mean you are free and clear. Emotional abuse can and does lead to intimate partner homicide. In many of the recent cases where women have gone missing and have yet to be found, they were never hit or beaten with fists. Instead, words, the same as you see above were their abusers weapons. When that no longer worked they went from words to action, silencing women and the mothers of their own children, forever.

You cannot fix or rescue these individuals. They are toxic and dangerous to any relationship.

Before you consider filing for a divorce or moving out, you better have a plan. He (the abuser) has one if you leave. And the last time I checked designer body bags were not considered a fashion statement.

Level The Playing Field in Officer Involved Intimate Partner Crimes Before A Homicide

Barbara Vanaman was a wife of a veteran police officer in Millville, NJ. She lost her life while
in the midst of ending an abusive marriage. Her police Sergeant husband came from a long line
of law enforcement officers. He claimed self-defense, after he opened fire on her shooting her,
twice.

Afterwards, he cut himself with a large kitchen knife, claiming self-defense, and buying the Sergeant a pity
party from fellow officers and the community, and a crime scene that was never properly
documented or processed.

The Sergeant took a plea deal just before trial . On Wednesday, a judge may reduce the already
outrageous sentence initially imposed of nine years for her murder.

What can we learn from this tragedy?

There are other officer’s wives, as I write this, in New Jersey, living in fear. Uncertain of their future because of their violent and dangerous husbands who happen to be sworn commissioned law enforcement officers. What do we say to them? How do we offer a solution when their lives are hanging by a thread?

A human life was lost. Procedures in this case were passed over because the offender had a good reputation in the community. This case, from the start, was about blue defending blue.

But, what about red defending the red?

The life of Barbara Vanaman is now permanently marked by a headstone. There has to be a more level playing field of survival for victims of officer involved intimate partner violence leading to homicide.

Changing the landscape and leveling the playing field is something I have worked to achieve since my own mother’s officer involved murder in 1989. This case is but one example of how intimate partner homicides are handled across the country. When the wife of a law enforcement officer attempts to seek assistance she isn't supported, instead, she is spoken to by a commander or internal affairs. She is told that if charges are brought against the officer,  he will surely lose his job. From the start, the officer’s wife is "handled" as though it is her fault.

No victim services.

No opportunity to leave the relationship.

No automatic relief for the trauma suffered.

No real hope except to be made to look like an idiot.

An officer is trained, a wife or girlfriend is no match for the explosive waiting to detonate.

The best example is my own, as a daughter of a violent and dangerous law enforcement officer. The lessons learned have saved thousands of lives, but the price continues to be high when I am unable to reach everyone prior to a tragedy.

Part of the solution begins with the Police Academy. There, you have an opportunity to change attitudes. Consequences for actions need to be a mandate among cadets, not lip service. Bring in the wives and girlfriends and teach them techniques that will aid in disarming a potentially life threatening situation. Give them information and materials to use should something happen, where they can go that is safe. In this information provide the prescription available in the "Time's Up book.

I am asking for a change at leveling a field for the wives of officers whose pleas for assistance have fallen on deaf ears. Respectfully, in the line of duty, an officer's funeral is held in the highest regard. For the funeral of a police officers wife, in my opinion, often killed with their husband's service revolver, her life holds the same honor.

Barbara Vanaman was killed in the line of duty as a wife, mother and victim, all because she wanted to move on, minus the violence.

The Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit included in the book "Time's Up"

An “Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" and video has the additional psychological benefit of being forced to face reality and admit that the potential for the ultimate kind of violence exists…and that if it occurs the perpetrator will be held accountable.

The Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit: A Victim’s Voice (c)(TM)(R)

Domestic violence or intimate partner victims now are able to provide information, in their own words, about the fears, dangers, experiences they have had at the hands of their abuser. The" Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" or "EAA" records victim's stories, histories, and experiences which are preserved and stored on their behalf. These videos will provide answers to the many questions, allegations, and fears that arise when a person has disappeared, gone missing, or been found dead.

In relationships it is important to equip one's self with the proper tools before announcing "it is over." That, is what cost Bea Dickey her life. Unfortunately, hers life mirrors thousand of others across the county, victims of intimate partner violence, trying to break away from their abusive relationships with their lives in tact.

If Beatrice Dickey, or any woman found murdered or is reported missing, had done an Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit, ON TAPE, from following the information in the “Time’s Up" book ,they would be able to describe:

- threats made against her life or wellbeing, including details of how the perpetrator would carry out the threat
- incidents of past abuse that the victim has endured
- admissions or comments made to her about other victims or people abused
- where evidence or weapons would or could be located
- possible alibis that the perpetrator would make up in his defense (including identification of people who could be co-defendant’s or co-suspects)
- portray visible injuries or marks

Just think if we incorporate the only effective plan in the country and have it available for every prosecutor, law enforcement, church, family law office and social service agency across the country, lives would be saved.

Through our corporate and security technology partners we bring the proprietary training to you and your company. And you can now be trained and certified to provide the "EAA" for your clients or within your law enforcement and legal communities or private company. If you are in law enforcement, private investigations, a lawyer practicing in family related matters including custody, a social worker, medical care provider, human resource or are with an employee assistance program or a direct insurer such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Zurich N.A., AIG, Anthem, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, AllState or Travelers.

Below is the video example of what someone does as they prepare:

If you are in a relationship that has a history of violence, simply mustering up the courage to confront the person and say it is over, without the proper tools, can cost you, your life!

Drew Peterson Remains Behind Bars and Stacy Peterson Remains Missing

Earlier today, the Illinois Supreme court denied a motion from the defense team of Drew Peterson's to be released from jail while they review the appeal filed by the Will County State's Attorney's office in the case. Peterson has been behind bars since he was charged in the murder of Kathleen Savio in May of 2009. His bond remains at $20 million dollars.

On another note, Peterson in the news should be a reminder to the citizens of Illinois, Stacy Peterson, mother is still missing. Next month will mark the fourth year anniversary when she was, in my opinion, erased from the earth.

Hunting season is also around the corner, so perhaps hunters can be reminded through the Illinois National Resources websites to be aware and keep their eyes open this hunting season.

And social sites can continue getting Stacy's information out to the public. From Facebook to Twitter  to web and community sites and faith based organizations.

Stacy Peterson was silenced, we are her only voice, let's get busy!

Supreme Court Grants New Trial to Former Police Chief

“Former County Prosecutor Jennifer Lowrie (smiling below) was the first person to arrive at the scene of the shooting which occurred at the Huber household Oct. 28, 2007. She admitted to law enforcement that night that she and the then Police Chief Ken Huber had been having an affair. She also said Pam Huber knew about the relationship.

Accidents with a firearm are common among cowards with badge's whom murder their wives in cold blood. Former Chief of Police Ken Huber, also a weapons expert and instructor at the time "his gun discharged" won the right to a new trial. Last week, the South Dakota Supreme Court ruled that during the murder trial of Pam Huber, the circuit court judge did not allow experts to testify Huber's gun "could have discharged by accident while he was attempting to secure a lock on the weapon." He claims it went off and struck his wife Pam Huber in the head.

The 2007, criminal complaint against Ken Huber showed that after dialing 911, he called the then County Prosecutor Jennifer Lowrie, whom admitted in the complaint to having had a sexual affair with Ken Huber. She arrived at the scene before law enforcement or EMS personnel, walked through the crime scene and was handed the phone to talk to the 911 operator, per the court documents.

[pam+huber+2.jpg]

Pam Huber (pictured above) died from her injuries on Friday November 2, 2007. She does not have the opportunity to file and appeal for a new trial. After the shooting a protection order alleged that former Miller and Highmore Police Chief Ken Huber walked into a bedroom where his wife and 11 year-old daughter were laying in bed and shot Pam Huber in the head.

Family attorney Matt Theophilus says, "He approached her in bed and shot her one time through the forehead, daughter unfortunately awoke to the sound of the gun shot and saw her mother terribly injured and bleeding and saw her father leaving the room with a gun in his hand."

In 2007, Matt Theophilus was the attorney representing the Huber's 11 and 12 year old daughters, and Pam Huber's son. The three filed a protection order against Ken Huber because he has not been arrested immediately following the shooting of their mother. Theophilus says, "Their concern is what will he do in the future." That concern comes because of what they say Ken Huber has done in the past. The protection order says Huber has physically and emotionally abused Pam Huber for at least 10 years, but she never reported it. Theophilus says, "She has never felt able to report this for fear of reprecussions given his positions as chief of police."

If Pam Huber had the opportunity, prior to her murder, to prepare a "Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" and video as prescribed in the book "Time's Up," there would be no opportunity for the supreme court to grant a new trial. Pam's words and testimony, from her grave, would have been sufficient.

It is up to you and I to sound the sirens for justice to those married to law enforcement officers whom fight to the end, silenced by a system where the brotherhood of the badge continues to send innocent women to their graves.

The book "Time's Up A Guide on How To Survive and Abusive and Stalking Relationship" is the prescription if you will, that every person must obtain before they announce they are leaving. Below is an example from Chapter 4, one of many unique tools provided in the book. It is available on Amazon.com, we can send it to you via e-book or on a cd. Remembering Kathleen Savio a Casualty in the War of Officer Related Intimate Partner Homicide

Two young boys, ages nine and eleven, lost their loving mother Kathleen Savio on March 1, 2004. Her death was an accident, they were told. Seven years ago today, in my opinion, she was murdered.

Never again will their mother greet the boys in the morning when they wake. In the afternoon when they return home from school, Mom will not be waiting for her boys. She will never again ask either of her sons "How was your day at school?" She will not be in the kitchen preparing dinner while they do their homework.

And Mom will no longer kiss them on the cheek, wishing each of her boys sweet dreams, as she had done thousands of nights.

I realize the photo's from the crime scene when Kathleen Savio's body was found will never be released and kept under seal from the public. For three reasons:

1st-If you saw these particular photo's you would know by viewing them that she was beaten. Brusises covered her back, torso, arms, shoulders, stomach and legs. From the naked eye there was no doubt this was not an accident, Kathleen Savio was murdered.

2nd- The way her body was positioned in the tub is something commonly taught at the police academy, dipicting a staged crime scene.

3rd-Those investigators who looked away by not documenting her murder, thinking they were doing their fellow buddy in blue a favor, caused the killing of yet another innocent victim of war Stacy Peterson.

I for one would like the names of these so called investigators along with former State's Attorney Tomczak to be gathered together for a formal Senate investigation hearing for the "war on intimate partner homicide." I realize it will do nothing to give Stacy Peterson, who vanished on October 28, 2007 and is still a missing person. or Kathleen Savio whom Peterson is now awaiting trial for her murder back their lives. But it will do so much to prevent future casualities in this war. Peterson is a social and psychotic nightmare of the worst kind, and we can learn a great deal in talking, reviewing, analyzing and finally implementing procedures many on the book "Time's Up," proven to be effective saving lives while addressing what has and hasn't happened since the murders of these two women.

If law enforcement and the legal system had done their jobs back in 2002, when Kathleen Savio asked for help, perhaps she would still be alive today. At the very minimum had those on the crime scene conducted their investigation properly, Drew Peterson would have been arrested for her murder.

We mark the anniversary of her death as a way to sound the sirens for justice to those married to law enforcement officers whom fight to the end, silenced by a system where the brotherhood of the badge continues to send innocent women to their graves.

Kathleen Savio deserved so much more, may she rest in peace.

One day the legal system will embrace the messenger utilizing proven strategies and implement the prescription for change that will enforce the laws while at the same reducing the number of murders without anyone's ego getting bruised. As always, and in confidence, I can be contacted via email at murphymilano@gmail.com
