Gail Nowacki Palmgren: Beyond the Mountain Top

Dr. Gail Palmgren age 44, mother of 2 vanished from Signal Mountain TN, on April 30, 2011. Weeks before she was in the process of ending her marriage. Gail does what I have instructed victims of intimate partner violence to do for over twenty years, tell a trusted friend.

Gail Palmgren confides in Arlene Durham, her best friend. She gives her various items, paperwork to hold for safekeeping, keys to property, along with her verbal and email instructions to pick up a dvr at best buy. Because of various spyware applications on cell and her own personal computer Gail is unable to facilitate certain safety plans as it relates to leaving. Her best friend, Arlene gives Gail her laptop to use.

At the urging by Gail's relatives and Arlene, Matt Palmgren reports his wife missing. Arlene gathers everything given to her by Gail and goes to the police making every effort to tell them what she knows and hand everything over. The police response was dismissive. Signal Mountain Law Enforcement decide to turn a deaf ear.

How many of missing persons cases's involving women and mothers in the process of ending their dysfunctional and often violent relationship have to go missing before it is taken seriously by law enforcement?

The case is now 56 days-cold! Many a missed opportunity, erased by, in my opinion, incompetence in this particular missing persons case. Arlene Durham's only "agenda" is finding her best, Gail. She has important information in this case that I believe is of significance to what happened to Gail Palmgren. Speaking from experience, no one listened to my mother, or all those thousands, like her who go missing each day. The crime of intimate partner violence that leads to homicide is still dealt with in silence behind closed doors. I am one of the lucky ones to have been able to find my mother after searching for three days and take her to what resulted in a final resting place.

I vowed the day my own father murdered her that I would not allow another woman to be a statistic. Arlene Durham is doing the same as she shouts from beyond the mountain top for help in finding her best friend, Gail. That cry for help now includes the media.

Earlier today, on the show "Times Up" Arlene Durham was a guest on the live broadcast along with Robert H. Rarn, Retired Lt and Kim Anklin Criminal Analyst, principals in the firm Management Resources, Ltd., we discussed the missing person case of Dr. Gail Nowacki Palmgren.

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Eleanor Roosevelt"

The only goal is to find Gail Palmgren. If you or I were to go missing, I hope my best friend would do exactly what Arlene Durham is doing, shouting from beyond the mountain top, until we are found!

Gail Nowacki Palmgren: More Questions Than Answers

"Signal Mountain police Detective James Tizzio said his investigation had uncovered no psychiatric issues with the missing woman."

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, Gail Nowacki Palmgren, age 44, dropped off her 9 and 12 year old children at the marital residence and left (there was a ping signal to the Wal-Mart doesn't mean much of anything at this point) in Signal Mountain, TN and has not been seen or heard from since. She and the kids spent the prior night at the family cabin near Montgomery, AL, after police responded to a domestic related call, not the first time. Law Enforcement also provided a few safe telephone numbers for shelter services.

I have to admit, this case has me stumped. After receiving emails since the weekend asking for attention on her disappearance either via blogs or my radio shows, not a lot is making sense.

Law enforcement is being restrictive on their information and activities as it relates to an investigation or developments.

What we know:
We know the mother of 2 is missing.
We know the couple was in the midst of a legal separation.
We know that she received numbers to a shelter service from law enforcement.
We know the husband has a mistress who also is a co-worker.
We know the husband filed court papers for temporary custody of the children after mom was reported missing.

Some Questions:
Why isn't the husband cooperating with law enforcement?
Why is he claiming she has serious mental health issues?
Why is he claiming she changed codes to the bank accounts?
Why is he claiming she took jewels?
Why is he claiming that he received a change of address from the post office dated April 30th?
And why isn't he searching for his wife, the mother of his children?
Why is he setting the tone of details (his version) that have nothing to do with her needing to be found?

I always find that when a person provides this type of information it is to disarm the truth of what is really happening. Especially in cases of intimate partner violence.

According to a news interview her sister gave : "She was nervous. She was anxious. She sounded scared," says Diane Nichols. Palmgren wouldn't say why she was scared but the Nichols made out this much, "She just thought she was being followed." If she was a victim of intimate partner violence this has significance.

Question: The night she and the kids spend at the cabin where was the husband? I would, if possible, check his gas and credit card activities as well as his cell phone pings. Perhaps even locate his associates or friends and do the same with them.

To Gail's sister and brother, I suggest that you immediately contact the CUE Center for missing persons. Register the case with the organization so they can provide you with assistance in your sisters case. The number to call is 910-343-1131. The website is www.ncmissingpersons.org

I will also offer the family media to spread the word on radio shows this week to help get the information out. Just email me at murphymilano@gmail.com and provide a contact number if you would like to do so.

I would provide more details and insight but at this stage why give the criminal defense attorney a heads up. Focus should be directed on finding her, now.

Websleuths.com is also following this case.

The Family has created a facebook page titled Bring Gail Home Now

Is There Anything You Can Do For Me?

“The strong odor of death remained, permeating the air in the house like an uninvited guest, jolting my senses with a one-two punch. The odor was so pungent I popped my head outside the door again, and inhaled the clean, crisp, winter air.” I made my way towards the kitchen, it was too dark to see anything, I flipped the light switch, nothing, maybe a breaker was out? The odor grew stronger. A few feet from my childhood bedroom Bobbie, my mother- lay murdered."

“They are preparing to transport the bodies to the morgue,” the police chaplin said in almost a whisper. “Someone from the police department will call you in the morning to assist you with the funeral arrangements. Susan, is there anything I can do for you?”

A thousand thoughts passed through my mind with lighting speed, but I was in shock, unable to speak.

That was in 1989 and I have been waiting to respond to that question since I began my work with victims of intimate partner violence and homicide a year or so after my parents died. Now, 20 years later, no one has ever asked again, is there anything I can do for you.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you can do something for me.

Before I lay out my request of what you can do for me, understand that for years in many ways I have been silenced from speaking out on first hand knowledge of what really is happening as it relates to victims of intimate partner violence and homicide. Those individuals know all too well what I am talking about. As they say, "shit rolls down hill."

If I were to lay everything out, my career would be over. I, too, would be silenced, like my mother. So over the years I had to learn the hard way to bite the side of my lip and do what I could for victims that resulted in successfully saving their lives.

When a system does what it always has done, the outcome never changes.

An example of this are the 147 murdered women and children from September 1 through September 27, 2010, these are the states they were killed in:

NE (2); NY (8); LA (1); AL (7); FL (20); AZ (4); TN (4); TX (17); VA (7); CA (6); UT (2); MI (6); WA (4); OH (8); SC (7); HI (2); MA (4); CO (3); PA (4); OR (4); MD (3); KY (6); NC (3); MO (1); MS (1); IL (9); NM (1); ID (1); MT (2).
Where is the outrage over 147 innocent women and children who were murdered by their intimate partners within 27 days?

What You Can You Do For Me?
