"Stone Cold Target" in Missing Person Intimate Partner Investigation Case of Michelle Parker

"Susan-Stop using the phrase "person of interest." It is a weak-kneed statement- a C.Y.A. phrase that could mean something as innocuous as just a "fact witness" which every husband/boyfriend always is. Step out and call these _ _ _ _ _ _ what they should be-stone cold targets of the investigation." Quote from a prominent criminal defense attorney

Just when I thought I had seen it all, the "only stone cold target" in the vanishing, and now police investigation, of missing Florida mother of 3, Michelle Parker is publicly seeking donations to help with the children.

He set up a Facebook page stating that taking care of the twins has not allowed him to work. Smith is seeking $5,000 in donations and so far he has raised $240. A nice touch, in my opinion, by his current legal team, playing the "I am the perfect daddy sympathy card." Having recent photos of the children displayed on Facebook in such a public case is, however, not a smart move, and it is irresponsible. We have far too many predators who prey on innocent children from postings on social media sites. And, in case the defense team is not familiar, anyone has the ability to geo-track a photo, and show up in that child's neighborhood.

Interesting there are no photos of the children's mother, Michelle Parker, or any plea for information as to her safe return. Again, in my expert opinion, those in the know, having direct knowledge, rarely, if at all, participate in looking for anyone they never want found. Before I receive emails, I do know that under another "defensive play" the search team brought in by the legal defense team, and not Dale Smith is what I consider a conflict of interest. The current legal team also represents and donates to this amazing search organization for missing persons. As a defense strategy they have called this missing persons group in trying to show yet another reason why Smith is innocent. Yes, a person is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

Dale Wayne Smith, last saw his former fiance, Michelle Parker, on November 17, 2011, when she brought the 3 year-old twins over to the residence for a scheduled visitation. He was the last person to see Michelle alive. As we see in case after case the last person to see a potential victim of intimate partner missing and homicide is, in my opinion, the person responsible. The individual responsible almost always has their hands dirtied, and I am not talking about making mud pies. There are those rare occasions when those responsible and clever enough to stage an accident or cover their tracks; get away with murder.

Journalist Isabelle Zehnder reported on December 9, 2011 "the parents of Dale Wayne Smith II, the ex-fiancé of missing Orlando, Florida mom Michelle Parker, were subpoenaed to answer questions under oath at the state attorney’s office, now two searches are underway in areas near their home."

Detectives urge anyone with information to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

We see one tragedy after another in our communities and on the news about intimate partner violence. Today, in Tennessee, missing mother Karen Swift's body was positively identified. Her husband naturally has hired an attorney and is not cooperating with law enforcement.

Society tends to think in terms of a “single incident” or, a “one time only” act of violence. Questions are raised and blame is more of a quid pro quo for victims or anyone involved in these types of dangerous situations. We must comprehend that the world in which these victims live and breathe, similar to a contagious infection, is no different than captured and tortured prisioners of war. The vanished, the missing, the murdered all were calculated and planned out by an abusive, angry and controlling individual. The term “DOMESTIC VIOLENCE” or Intimate Partner Violence is a continuing pattern of behavior which can include :
  • repeated harassment,
  • stalking or surveillance of the victim,' threats and intimidation,
  • bodily harm,
  • sexual assault,
  • child abduction
  • or the constant threat , that can escalate, in some cases to murder .

In most abuse cases, the danger continues despite the victim’s attempts to get help from traditional sources. For example, after a female victim seeks assistance from the courts or separates from her abuser, she statistically runs a greater risk of increased harm. The abuser is furious and steps up his behavior and violent attacks. Often the victim is left to fend for herself when it comes to protecting her life.

If you are in a potentially dangerous situation, I have a question: How many more times are you going to allow the abuse? When someone you are with hurts you, that is not love! You have options. Oh, I know all the excuses from he was drinking, to we are having financial problems, or how about when you are made to believe it was your fault. It is not. Time's Up! If you doing nothing but prepare the abuse video and affidavit prescribed in the information provided below, you have taken a big step towards having you words stick if something happened to you. Telling a close friend or family member about the terror and abuse is not enough to make an arrest or prosecute in a court of law.

Providing information on what you need to do if you or someone you know is in a potentially violent relationship is done with the hope of saving lives. My work in the area of intimate partner violence prevention is a direct result of not being able to save my own mother back in 1989, killed by her police detective husband prior to committing suicide.

If you are in a relationship that has a history of violence, simply mustering up the courage to confront the person and say it is over, without the proper tools, can cost you, your life! One of the major reasons women stay in abusive relationships is fear. They are afraid of what will happen to them and their children if they leave. Sadly, their fears are often justified; statistics show that a woman is at the greatest risk for injury when she announces her plans or leaves an abusiverelationship. The book "Time's Up A Guide on How To Survive and Abusive and Stalking Relationship"is the prescription, if you will, that every person must obtain before they announce they are leaving.

Below is an example from Chapter 4, one of many unique tools provided in the book. It is available on Amazon.com, or you can purchase via e-book or on a cd. If you have questions, the email address is: timesupforjustice@gmail.com Before you decide that you have had enough and are ending the relationship, create for yourself the "Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit" and video (shown below). If you do nothing else, please take one important step that if something does happen to you, if you do vanish like Stacy Peterson, Vensus Stewart, Rachel Anderson, Susan Powell, Lisa Stebic, or arefoundmurdered like Monica Beresford-Redmond, Franki Jacobson, Renee Pagel, Summer Inman,Kelly Rothwell and others where the person responsible has gotten away with murder that your voice and record of the abuse will be captured and recorded. Do it for you friends, family and loved ones. Do it for your children. Do it for you!

If you have questions, the email address is: timesupforjustice@gmail.com

This book doesn't merely discuss when you should leave or why you should leave, it tells you HOW you should leave. The book has step-by-step instructions how to covertly make a plan, set-up a safe escape, deal with financial issues, and the paperwork. Susan even takes you line-by-line through the process, the forms, the legal issues...she takes you by the hand, and, believe me, when you are being terrorized and you are an basket case, you don't need vague ideas, you need specific instructions. TIME'S UP can save your life and your sanity. If you need to get out, get this book before you make a mistake that could be fatal. It is money well spent.

The Media: Giving Hero Status to Killers

The days of Walter Cronkite delivering the nightly news during the dinner hour is but a distant memory. As a matter of fact, so is the family dinner hour; both replaced by "George Jetson" like technology . The cartoon, once a Saturday morning favorite in the early 1960's, featured everything from automatic buttons for prepared foods to hand held communication devices at a time when technology was in its infancy.

Although Walter Cronkite died in 2009, the integrity in which he delivered world news was important. For many Americans across the county during his television rein, he was the voice of integrity and trust. The world watched as he informed the country, removing his glasses, on live television as he tried to maintain his composure shortly after President John F. Kennedy was killed. In covering crimes like serial killer Richard Speck who killed 8 nurses in 1966, Cronkite delivered the tragic lives of Gloria Davy, Patricia Matusek, Nina Schmale, Pamela Wilkening, Suzanne Farris, Mary Ann Jordan, Merlita Gargullo, and Valentina Pasion with respect and human compassion. The victims of Specks crimes received attention, because they were important; the killer took a back seat in the news reporting of the murders. It was a time when the country cared about their neighbors. It was a time when you actually knew your neighbor and everyone who lived in your community.

With technology, our country, in my opinion, has lost everything we once held sacred. The newspapers have been replaced by the Internet and various social media sites. Criminals are now given hero like status on the major news networks. Victims who have fallen prey to killers are lost someplace in the headlines of 5 second sound bites. Talking heads have replaced serious journalists and reporters. And family members looking for loved ones or seeking justice believe that a mention or an on camera interview via Skype or in a studio from another location will get them closer to justice.

We have allowed what news we receive to be spoon feed to us without any regard for accountability. The days of Walter Cronkite have been replaced by scripted sound bites.

Don't get me wrong, a segment or a mention on CNN, HLN, the morning shows, The Huffington Post and others is great, but we need to also be more accountable in allowing that brand of reporting not to dictate outcomes and make criminals into celebrities.

How in the world do we go from watching a mother stand trial for murder of an innocent child to debating how much they will receive for exclusive book deals and appearances? In my opinion, the media opens the door for those types of opportunities and we fuel them when we watch the same rodeo circus on television, click a page on an Internet site or leave a comment of outrage.

On my radio show "Time's Up" we spoke with network television reporter and producer Steph Watts. He discussed what goes on behind the camera and how cases receive news coverage. Watts also offers sound advice for families of missing persons to receive attention in their cases.

The world of ever changing media and technology can be a vital tool in every aspect of our lives. But with that comes responsibility to us as consumers, our families, neighbors and community.

Time Clock in Missing Person Cases

Photo

Last week Devin Ivey, 22, disappeared while with her husband from a budget motel in South Carolina on June 9, 2011. Her family immediately contacted law enforcement when they suspected something was wrong.

In many cases, when a person goes missing and they are married or in a relationship, friends and family can be hesitant to alert the authorities. The reason is the person is an adult and if they had little to no contact with the loved one they may wait it out for a few days, or sometimes weeks. In this case thank goodness the family acted immediately. Devin Ivey was a victim of intimate partner abuse that resulted in homicide.

Law enforcement wasted not one second looking for the young woman. The Cue Center for Missing Persons and their tireless volunteers were also called in for the search. The organization, headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina, assists thousands of families each year with support on what to do, how to get the word out for their loved one, and a 24-hour access to volunteers who are there for the families of the missing.

Locating Devin Ivey, in my opinion, was because of trained law enforcement working in cooperation, certified and skilled searchers and dogs trained, and also certified, to recover bones and bodies.

Recovery of Devin Ivey was from the Cue's Center for Missing Persons own "Oscar" a certified live scent dog, and certified volunteer searchers, Bernie Thornton and Connie Braddock.

The CUE Center is now in Valliant, Oklahoma where they will search for Hope Meek over the weekend. In part because one hell of a detective with OSBI continued to work this case. The leads and tips provided is why the CUE Center will be searching for her.

Hope Meek resided on Section Line Road in Valliant, Oklahoma with her husband and their three young children. Her husband told authorities that he saw Meek inside their home during the day on February 21, 2002. She has never been heard from again. She not reported missing for five days.

Time on a clock, especially in cases of intimate partner violence, means everything the moment someone goes missing. The success of finding Devin Ivey was because searchers and trained volunteers were brought in immediately. Most importantly, the case was registered with a missing persons organization.

Each day we hear or see missing persons cases involving wives, girlfriends and mothers, husbands, boyfriends and fathers. The families are frozen with trauma and the fear of not knowing what steps to take; especially as it relates to a spouse or significant other. They are often afraid to rock the boat with that person. A family does not want to believe the person with whom their loved one is in a relationship with could be capable of harm.

If you want to find a missing person, allowing the trail to go cold without trained searchers is, in my opinion, a crime. That is your loved one. Aside from making a missing persons report, if you are a family member, either register with a missing persons agency or request that law enforcement contact an organization immediately so you, as a family member, know what direction and steps you need to take. They will work with you and law enforcement to combine efforts on your behalf.  CUE Center for Missing Persons can be reached online at http://ncmissingpersons.org or by phone for assistance with registering your case.

The CUE Center is the "red cross" to search and recovery and depends on the public for support. The Disappearance of Hope Danielle Meek

Details of Disappearance
Meek resided on Section Line Road in Valliant, Oklahoma with her husband and their three young children. Her husband told authorities that he saw Meek inside their home during the day on February 21, 2002. She has never been heard from again. She not reported missing for five days.

Authorities stated that it is uncharacteristic of Meek to leave without warning. Her 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck, her car keys, her eyeglasses and her cellular phone were discovered inside of her house after she went missing. She has failed to contact her children since her disappearance. Meek’s husband filed for divorce from her fifteen days after her disappearance, and received custody of their children.

Meek worked as a jailer at the time of her disappearance; she was in charge of escorting prisoners from their cells to court appearances. Her case remains unsolved.

Joining us will be the sister of Hope Meek and Michigan Prosecutor, Donna Pendergast.

Searching For John Spira

John Spira, a well-known local businessman and blues musician, known as “Chicago Johnny,” has now been missing for more than three years.

Authorities say the investigation into his disappearance has grown cold. However, seven months after he went missing in February 2007, the business Spira owned for more than a decade suddenly burned to the ground.

Additionally, a large missing person billboard hung by his family and friends across the street from the office a few days before the fire was torn down. The replacement sign, police say, was also forcibly removed.

However, seven months after he went missing, the business Spira owned for more than a decade suddenly burned to the ground.

Joining us will be John Spira’s sister, Stephanie and Reporter, Joe Hosey.
