Michelle Parker: A Mother Remains Missing

The case of missing Mother of three, Michelle Parker, still remains unsolved.  She vanished on November 17, 2011 from Orlando, Florida.  The last person to see her alive, estranged boyfriend Dale Smith who is also the father of twin boys from their relationship.  And Dale Smith is the sole target of the Orlando Police Department's investigation.

Law enforcement continues to work this case.  But, the media attention has all but faded. The spotlight needs to return on this case. Michelle is out there somewhere and deserves to be found.

Ever stop and think why the last person to see their wife or girlfriend alive never assists in searches or makes a plea for their safe return?  Why does the only suspect in cases of intimate partner homicide almost always lawyer up, refusing to cooperate with police?  That's because if it walks and talks like a duck, it is!

Behind Closed Doors: Verbal, Emotional, Physical Abuse

Suffering in silence behind closed doors with verbal, emotional and physical abuse is unhealthy and dangerous.  


I know you believe that special person in your life whom you love with all heart will "someday" return to the person they were when you began the relationship.  But it's not likely to happen.


Did you ever stop and ask yourself, how do you stay with a person who is harming you?  Calling you names or threatening you one minute only to change and say they've forgiven you, the next.  What exactly are you being forgiven for?  What did you do to deserve being screamed at or hit and thrashed about a room by you hair? The evening of December 10, 2011, was no different.  When he got up in the early morning hour of December 11th, making sure the house was secure, the backdoor was not.  Immediately he checked in on all the bedroom doors.  His granddaughter, 19 year-old Candice Shields was no where in sight.   Nothing in the home was out of place, broken or taken.  Grandpa knew something was wrong.

Candice Shields, who lived in Graham, Texas is the mother of a toddler she also is pregnant, expecting her second child.

Cold Blooded Mother Murders Her Entire Family

Both of these beautiful children had just gotten off the school bus.    It was their last day of school until after the new year.

As always, I received a dozen or so emails when the news broke about a tragic shooting; in my opinion, a premeditated slaughter in Emington, IL, an entire family erased.  Among those who lost their lives was a 10-month old baby Maggie Warren, the father to the infant and live-in boyfriend Daniel Warren, the mother to all the children, Sara McMeen, and Skyler and Ian Lemke.

Interesting how everyone who wrote assumed it was the father.  On Friday, a neighbor saw the mother in the back yard after 3 other shots had already rung out from inside the home.  The neighbor asked if everything was alright and the mother shouted "no," firing point blank at the baby in her arms, dropped her to the grass, then committed suicide.

As you're reading this you can think of all the "reasons" someone would do this, especially a mother.  Was she mentally ill, not on her medication, misdiagnosed or did she just snap? There is not one good reason, in my book, for wiping out innocent lives.  Sara McMeen planned the murders.  No, she did not simply snap.

Having personally bathed,  for 18 years, in the world of abuse victims and serial offenders who eventually turn deadly, society continues to dismiss the events leading up to intimate partner violence and homicide.  We sugar coat it by saying the individual was mentally ill or they were under pressure.  We tiptoe around these crimes hiding behind the computer screen or inside our home in a hear no evil see no evil mentality.  These murders are not isolated, one time incidents.  It is an epidemic!

The community of Emington has an opportunity to be a voice for the children and father now forever silenced on a national level.  Perhaps a town meeting, after the holidays, with a plan of awareness and action in memory of the victims.  It is my hope the town can rise above the tragedy and not keep it a secret, hidden as though it never happened.  That would be a crime!

"Murphy-Milano Laces Up in New York"

Rockefeller Center, New York December 8, 2011

The lights in New York are amazing. And one of the major attractions in fall and winter is the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. You know the old saying once you haven't done something for a while and you try it again? It's easy like remembering how to ride a bicycle?

I am here to inform it does not apply to ice skating! My ankle's and legs acted as if they had no memory to being strapped and laced up tightly each winter past my teen years in ice skates. My body moving with grace and speed. Sometimes playing better than the boys in a neighborhood game of fierce ice hockey. My hero's were Chicago Black Hawk player's Stan Miketa and Bobby Hull. I even had my very own Chicago Black Hawk ice hockey stick. Tonight, I looked more like an old sketch on an episode of "I Love Lucy."

The final photo taken after a solid hour of falling on my butt is of me on the ice standing upright among strangers. If only for a brief moment, and yes with a little help, I can finally claim bragging rites, I did it!
