The Queens of True Crime discuss "Women Who Kill" on The Susan Murphy Milano Show 2:00 PM Eastern Time

Thursday, December 15, 2pm ET

Listen LIVE at: Here Women Talk

Good friends, each of them living in Texas, and their penchant for well researched books in a genre that often gets a less than stellar view, Casey and Fanning often show up in the same circle of events. To have them together is a double hit of talent. Along with all of their true crime books, each has developed a series of crime based novels with a strong female lead character, Fanning’s Det. Lucinda Pierce and Casey’s Sarah Armstrong, both which leave readers wanting more. Listen Live by going to www.herewomentalk.com

Diane Fanning

Before writing her first true crime book, Fanning wrote for magazines, television, radio and ad agencies in Virginia, earning many awards, before she moved to Texas where her career in true crime blossomed, along with her work with several non profit organizations. She has served on the executive committees of the Writers’ League of Texas and the Heart of Texas chapter of Sisters in Crime and is also a member of Mystery Writers of America.

Several of Fanning’s books deal with the issue of intimate partner homicide and violence, including the Edgar award nominated, “Written in Blood,” about the death of Kathleen Peterson and the subsequent conviction of her husband, Michael Peterson. Another book, “Gone Forever,” written about the death of a mother of three, leaving her marriage and winding up a murder victim, was praised highly by many who work with domestic violence victims and the aftermath of trauma in the home, recommending the book to victims of violence with whom they come in contact with.

While completing the story of serial killer, Tommy Lynn Sells, Diane Fanning saw the case of Julie Rea Harper on 20/20, a woman convicted of murdering her own son. Fanning’s correspondence with Sells revealed that he, indeed, was the killer and Julie Rea Harper’s conviction was overturned by appeal. For her involvement in this case, Diane Fanning was recently honored with an award by the Innocence Project. (http://www.uis.edu/innocenceproject/)

Contracted to write the only book to date on the life and death of Caylee Anthony, Mommy’s Little Girl, Fanning gained national attention for her dynamic research and the ability to organize it in such a way as to be the voice for a child lost to murder.

Kathryn Casey

“I was looking for a good subject for my first book in 1992 when I interviewed Linda Bergstrom for a magazine article. I knew immediately that I had found the right case. The result: EVIL BESIDE HER (formerly titled THE RAPIST’S WIFE). Following that, along came Susan White, Kent McGowen and A WARRANT TO KILL. Then I was off to Austin for the next three books, the first SHE WANTED IT ALL, on the Celeste Beard case, followed by DIE, MY LOVE, on the Piper Rountree case, set in Austin/Houston/ and Richmond, Virginia. My most recent true crime book, A DESCENT INTO HELL, on the Colton Pitonyak case, is a truly tragic Austin case, deeply troubling. The research took me into the world of college kids, drugs, sex, and guns. In DESCENT, three college-age kids with the whole world ahead of them slide into dangerous territory, and two end up committing a terrible, terrible crime.

Finally, after two decades covering crime, I’ve relied on my experiences and expanded into fiction. The result: SINGULARITY, my first novel, published by St. Martin’s Minotaur. The first in a series, SINGULARITY introduces Lieutenant Sarah Armstrong, the Texas Rangers’ lone profiler, as she hunts a seriously strange killer. The case quickly takes over Armstrong’s life and nearly destroys her. The second in the series, BLOOD LINES, is now out, and THE KILLING STORM is scheduled for fall 2010. “

The Roth Show with Susan Murphy Milano : True Crime Writer, Anthony Bruno- 7:00 Pm Eastern Time

The Roth Show

Dr. Laurie Roth and Susan Murphy Milano

Wednesday, June 29, 7-8pm ET

Listen LIVE: http://therothshow.com

Author, Anthony Bruno

Bad Guys was the first in a series of novels (Bad Blood, Bad Luck, Bad Business, Bad Moon, and Bad Apple) about FBI agents Mike Tozzi and Cuthbert Gibbons, odd-couple partners whose prime targets are New York and New Jersey wiseguys. Basing his stories on actual Mafia figures and their criminal activities, Bruno pioneered the territory that has made The Sopranos the monster hit that it is.
After the series of fiction “Bad” books, Bruno turns his talents to thetrue crime tale of The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. The Iceman is an in-depth profile of convicted murderer Richard Kuklinski, who claims to have killed over 100 people. Kuklinski was dubbed “the Iceman” when one of his victims was found in the woods, his heart frozen solid. Kuklinski had stored the man’s body in an ice-cream truck for two years before dumping it in order to disguise the time of death. In researching this book, Bruno corresponded with Kuklinski extensivelyand interviewed him in prison-locked in a room alone with the killer, no glass partition separating them, no guards in sight.
“A film version of The Iceman will begin shooting in 2011, starring James Franco, Benicio Del Toro, and Michael Shannon in the title role.”
Join Dr. Laurie Roth (“The Annie Oakley of the Airways”) and Susan Murphy Milano (“The Jane Wayne of Justice”) every Wednesday from 7-8pm ET for an event filled hour with exciting guests to discuss crime stories, missing persons and true crime authors.

Update on unsolved case of Sheena Morris

On January 1, 2009, Sheena Morris was found dead in a hotel, hanging from the shower. Her then boyfriend was not arrested at the time, and would not be questioned by Bradeton, Florida officers for some 22 days later.

Sheena Morris placed a call to 911 hours before her death reporting domestic violence by her dangerous boyfriend. She even took pictures of her injuries, a cut on her neck, on her ring finger.

The people in the next room of the hotel also called 911 before her murder to report the disturbance and sound of violence coming from the room next door.

Shortly before her death, the keys to her apartment were taken and she was physically attacked. The keys are an important part of this case because Sheena Morris had criminal information that would implicate the last person to see her alive. It doesn't help that the dangerous and criminal boyfriend also has direct ties to the Genovese family and he can be placed at her apartment carrying out boxes with the stolen keys taken from Sheena just before he staged her death to make it look like a suicide. In March, her death certificate was changed from suicide to undetermined.

Abusive Cops Who Beat & Kill Their Own Families

Listen LIVE : Saturday, November 8, 2008
Susan Murphy Milano- on TRUE CRIMES -- Listen live 2pm Pacific, 4pm Central, 5pm Eastern

Go to http://www.outlawcrime.com/ and listen to the show.

It's the deep, dark secret within the rank and file of Law Enforcement Agencies across America: Some of the same officers who are supposed to be breaking up domestic disputes in this country are abusing their own wives and girlfriends. Many police departments continuing to look the other way. Susan Murphy Milano said, "I am the daughter of a Chicago Violent Crimes Detective whose father murdered her mother before taking his own life. I will not rest until those who abuse and kill are held accountable.

Recently, I received a lot of emails and letters from women married to Law Enforcement Officers Across the Country with no place to turn for assistance. All because a husband or boyfriend was a respected law enforcement officer. There is no excuse for violence, especially in a police officers home.

Why aren't departments seeking a zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence committed by police officers? Is it too embarrassing? Family members rarely come forward to report these crimes and if they do, they are often victimized even more by their abusive officer spouse or boyfriend.

" He was going to kill me. How can you let him keep his gun and stay on the street?" (Wife of Boston Police Officer)

" When a police department does not take action, we, the families of officers feel powerless and worried about our own lives and the safety of their kids. All this does is further victimize us, when will it end?" (Wife of a New York State Tropper)

Another Wife of an officer said "You know the words on the side of police cars "We Serve And Protect", let me tell you every time I see that I'm sick with grief. It doesn't apply to me. It should read, "hey, we serve and protect our own"!

The women say that when they notified police, investigating officers were reluctant to pursue the cases. Evidence was mishandled. Some of the women were pressured by other officers or top brass to drop their complaints. "I was treated like a criminal, I was trying to get some help here," said another. The silence regarding cops who abuse and even kill their spouses is deafening...just this week there was another shocking case in the headlines.

Who do you call when your husband, the police officer, is beating the hell out of you?
Susan's quest for justice has been trumpeted across the pages of newspapers, magazines, radio and television. She is active in Women In Crime, Ink .
