The gruesome execution of four innocent lives in 2003, remains an unsolved cold case more than 8 years later. On February 11, 2011 the parents of Brian Lucas, Tom and Lorraine Lucas, were in the Zeus Radio studio live to discuss the unsolved murders at the Superbike Motorsports Store in Chesnee, SC in 2003.
Coroner’s investigator, Alan Mason, says sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about 3:15 p.m. and found the bodies of three men and a woman at Superbike Motorsports, a bike shop in western Spartanburg County, about 15 miles north of Spartanburg. A customer found the bodies and called authorities, Sheriff Bill Coffey said. Two of the victims were found inside the shop and two were found in the front doorway, authorities said. All four victims were shot multiple times, Mason said.
“Mid-afternoon on November 6th, 2003, a customer found Superbike owner Scott Ponder, and his close friend, shop manager Brian Lucas, dead outside the front of the business.Inside were the bodies of the other two employees: Scott’s mother, bookkeeperBeverly Guy, and mechanic Chris Sherbert.”
Could this have been a drug deal gone bad? Is there a personal connection to an investigating detective on the case and a murder suspect? Did a tipster call into the tip line and provide specific details of the murders? Was the person who called in the information to authorities the driver (wheel man) that day?
Is the fact that a Spartanburg Detective on the case (with the initials w.g) and a close schoolmate from their days at Boiling Springs, High School, are covering-up for the alleged mastermind and shooter of the four employees the reason this case has remained unsolved?
The million dollar question, "Why hasn't anyone been arrested?"
The families have literally been circle jerked around by the Spartanburg Investigators on this case. Here's a concept, how about the Attorney General's Office appoint a special prosecutor and/or have a fresh new set of eyes, not associated or connected to the shooter, for a proper investigation of this case.
In March of 2012, John Walsh, host of America's Most Wanted, featured the case on the program highlighting the new sketch of a person authorities are interested in finding.
The person of interest in the sketch above is a white man between the ages of 25 and 40 about 6 feet tall and weighing between 175 and 200 pounds. He had dark brown hair.
A $25,000 reward is still being offered.

Am I reading the article right? Are you implying that "Wg" and the shooter went to HS together? And that the Look out guy/driver may have called the tip in with specific details about the murders? And, that there is some sort of "cover-up"? Please clarify...
ReplyDeleteI agree. This article is confusing. To me, it's stating that the detective and/or investigator had something to do with it. I think some clarification should also be done
ReplyDeleteBottom line the sheriff and Detective Gary along with entire staff have not been able to solve this case in 8+ years yet they refuse outside assistance. What they have in the case file could solve this case. Why refuse free experienced assistance. I'm ready to help Sheriff 614-565-7189 do you want the assistance??? Don
ReplyDeleteThis article is not confusing at all to me!! I have always said why was the FBI/SLED not involved in this case a long, long time ago? Why would our local department not request the assistance of any outside source(s) available to help solve such a heinous crime as this? Does it realy matter who solves the crime as long as its solved. Does it matter who gets the glory for finding the responsible person(s) who did this> These families need closure!
ReplyDeleteWell said Anonymous! It appears there are some large egos running things at the SCSO....
ReplyDeleteOk, lets take our tin foil hats off for a minute people, what would the benefit to the Sheriffs Office be in not solving this crime. the Sheriff is a well known elected official. If he had the chance to close this he would. . If you read other press releases anyone would know that other agencies were involved. The concept that a career proffesional investigator such as WG would be involved is nonsense. Lets turn off the Law and Order and start living in the real world.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 11:12 PM:
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to post a defense for the sheriff please have the guts to post your name and telephone number! You state a "Well known public official"... Our point exactley! Why not work wih other seasoned professionals? What background does Wright or Gary have that make them experts that they are above assistance from others? NONE!
Arguing with a Sheriff or Detective Gary anonymous supporter is like picking up a dog dropping by the "clean side" it isn't going to happen! The family and community want answers not police rhetoric from behind the window dressing! Sheriff Wright... Detective Gary care to comment???? Don Corbett....
After 8 years of a killer(s) staying free, I also think fresh eyes are needed on this case.
ReplyDeleteThere WERE fresh eyes on this case in 2009; mine. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department chose to ignore the evidence, the crime reconstruction, the crime analysis, and the top person-of-interest.
ReplyDeleteCriminal Profiler Pat Brown
http://patbrownprofiling.blogspot.com/2012/05/criminal-profiling-topic-of-day-second.html
Parents and family of this case please keep pushing and fighting for an outside investigation. It appears you have stirred up the dust on this case and you have some powerful people on your side willing and ready to fight. Keep it alive until the truth revealed
ReplyDeleteThis whole "Pat Brown fiasco" is just that, a publicity stunt of some sort.
ReplyDeleteAs of today her "big breaking news" is finally out, she thinks the killer is the guy that found the victims.
Pat comes up with a few unexplained issues, but it's clear she has NOTHING substantial that would make the Sheriff think otherwise.
I think it's sickening what you people are doing to the families of the victims!
THANK YOU SUSAN MURPHY MILANO FOR YOUR PERSPECTIVE. We had no idea of the content of this article, but unfortunately have in fact found out yes, it is true the Investigator William Gary, did in fact go to school and lived only a few doors away from Noel Lee (the 911 caller and Brian & Scott's 'friend'. Not pointing fingers to who may USED THEIR FINGER TO PULL THE TRIGGER...but are stating this case in fact has NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED PROPERLY. IT HAS TAKEN THE FAMILY ALMOST 9 YEARS TO GET SPARTANBURG COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO OFFICIAL INVITE SLED INTO THE INVESTIGATION. We want a proper and impartial investigation by another "professional law enforcement ageny"... who ALSO HAS EXPERTISE AND MAY SHED NEW LIGHT ON THE VERY OLD CASE... 9 YEARS IS A LONG TIME TO WAIT FOR JUSTICE..
ReplyDeleteSince Susan Murphy Milano wrote this in May, she has been in a struggle for her life. She is fighting Stage IV cancer, has no insurance. Please pray for Susan, Prayers Change Things. If you are interested in donated much needed funds, proceeds from her new book being released soon and other options are available on her website and/or Facebook page.
Regardless if Pat is right or wrong, it infuriates me that a police agency would not accept outside help. It's obvious that they have not been able to solve the case on their own so accept the help of the Private Investigator and others with investigative skills to solve this crime and provide peace to the family. This case is now 9 years old...how much longer must they wait to find the killer of their family members? Imagine if this was YOUR mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, son, daughter. These family's deserve answers and for the other citizens of Spartanburg, SC...I would not sleep peacefully at night knowing that there is a MURDER at large who slaughtered four victims.
ReplyDeleteIf some reconizes the sketch they should call the police!
ReplyDeleteThis is a shame. They should focus on new theories to evaluate. Like investing patrons of biker bars and competing businesses during the time period relevant to the murders. Shouldn't there be written records of the last transaction at the shop before the murders. The fact they received execution shots seems to indicate this was personal......
ReplyDeleteI was in jail with a guy that told me he had done this for 20,000.00 - however he doesn't really look like the guy in the sketch so maybe he was just talking - However after it was AMW he was on the phone all night and then again the next day to the point he was upsetting others that needed the phone. I always sort of thought he was probably involved.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous.....If your information is reliable, would you anonymously contact us. You could hold the key to solving this case. Please contact us here at the blog. If you leave a comment it will not be made public if that's what you wish. Can you come forward with more information? I'm the administrator of this blog. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy friend was killed Dec 7 2003 few days before he had a gun I asked why he needed it he wouldn't tell me much but he said he knew some bad stuff on some people not long after that he was murdered at a house party by the guy Randy he may have something to do with all these shootings he's a Asian guy
DeleteAnonymous...when your comment was brought to my attention, it left me speechless, not knowing what to do. I'm personally asking from the bottom of my heart as Brian Lucas' mother... please take advantage of Delilah's offer of not releasing your message or identity. You probably did not realize when you posted this, but we lost Susan Murphy Milano to cancer last year. If Susan Murphy Milano could help solve this case FROM THE GRAVE SHE WOULD.... your contribution could make all the difference in the world to not only the families of the victims, law enforcement and the community of Spartanburg SC that so desperately needs answers to WHY, WHO, HOW ? There is still a $25,000 REWARD.(paid anonymously) God Bless you for coming forward and being an answer to our prayers.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the webcast last night in tears. In the past year I have become very good friends with Tom and Lorraine Lucas. As a mother myself I feel for everyone involved, nobody should have to bury their child. Finding this evil man will not give them closure, but it will ease everyones mind that he is not out there anymore. He changed the whole life course of these families. My love and prayers to Tom and Lorraine, Brian's sister Katie and her husband and their little son Tyler and to Brian's two young sons..and everyone associated. I am blessed to have Tom and Lorraine in my life! They are the nicest sweetest people you will ever meet!A true inspiration to all! PLEASE someone out there knows something, please come forward......Shiney pennys, Hummingbirds, playing hide and seek..thank you Brian! <3
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I remember this case and several others around the same time that have never been solved. Just did a search to remember when it was and find this blog. We thought it was odd that a crime like this has never been solved.
ReplyDeleteI mailed an envelope to Sheriff Chuck Wright today containing information and photographs of a man I believe looks just like the sketch. Hopefully the sheriff can run background checks and whatever else is needed to determine if it could possibly be him. It has haunted me ever since I saw the sketch and decided as far-fetched as it probably is, it is not for me to decide, but it is my duty to act and get this information to the proper authorities...I pray they can solve these horrific murders...
ReplyDeleteI wonder now if the man they have now is the man who you may have thought it was?
DeleteAt last the man has been found. May all his victims rest in eternal peace.
