Rihanna Should Consider Being a Spokeswoman For Domestic Violence!

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY AP Entertainment Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) - As police probe whether one of their own leaked a picture of a bruised and beaten woman that appears to be Rihanna, the image is sparking a discussion of the impact it could have on the issue of domestic violence. The celebrity Web site TMZ, which posted the photo Thursday night, did not explain its origin. The site wrote only that it was taken after an altercation between platinum-selling singer and her boyfriend, fellow pop star Chris Brown.
Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton acknowledged Friday afternoon that the photo could prove embarrassing to the woman pictured, a view shared by some advocates for abused women. But in the welts and marks on the face of the woman in the photo, some also saw a teaching moment.
"If it could happen to Rihanna, it could happen to anyone," said Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women. There are an estimated 4.8 million domestic violence attacks on women and another 2.9 million attacks on men each year, according to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.
"Maybe it is a good idea if it's her, if young girls see this," said Susan Murphy-Milano, a Chicago author and advocate for battered women. She said she hopes it makes them think, "Is the next picture going to be of her in a morgue?"
Both women expected the image, which even Bratton wouldn't go so far as to confirm was Rihanna, could spark a new awareness about domestic violence.
"The reality that domestic violence can happen to anyone, even someone with fame and celebrity, ought to bring home the point that this is a problem for our entire society," Gandy said. "We can't avoid or ignore it."
Bratton told reporters that along with launching an internal investigation into whether the photo is police evidence, he is also looking into how TMZ obtained the picture. He said the department may pursue a felony conspiracy case against TMZ and whomever might have helped them get the image.
Bratton said he suspected someone within the department leaked the photo, but did not elaborate or go so far as to confirm that it came from police evidence files.
"We are not treating this lightly," Bratton said. "It's an embarrassment to this department if in fact evidence was leaked.
"It's going to be a very painful experience for any personnel from this department and possibly those who they may have engaged in a conspiracy with to violate the laws of California."
TMZ did not say how it obtained the image and a publicist for the site did not return a phone or e-mail message seeking comment Friday.
Brown, 19, was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of making felony criminal threats, but police have not publicly identified his alleged victim. The woman was Rihanna, according to a person familiar with the situation, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity.
A spokesman for Brown said the singer had no further comment beyond a statement released Sunday in which he said he was "sorry and saddened" about the incident. His attorney has not returned calls seeking comment.
Rihanna broke her silence on Friday, her 21st birthday, by releasing a statement through Rubenstein Associates.
"At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown," the statement read. "She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."
The singer canceled a planned birthday bash in New York and postponed concerts overseas in the days following the incident.
Prosecutors are still waiting for police to present more evidence against Brown. Bratton said Friday that detectives are working quickly to finish that investigation, and the inquiries into the leak.
Both Gandy and Murphy-Milano said one of the reasons the photo's release is so shocking is because domestic violence isn't in the spotlight except for when it involves high-profile couples.
"Such a graphic image may give people pause and make them think about what we're doing for the women who don't have resources to escape and take care of themselves," Gandy said. She said the country's economic problems will translate into more domestic violence cases as families suffer financial strain.
"I think she could be a very important voice and a tool for other people," she said of Rihanna. "She could turn this around," Murphy-Milano said, and tell others, "'Don't be me.'"

The Magic Carpet Ride to Murder

Today on the EIB Network, home of Rush Limbaugh he discussed the beheading of Assiya Hassan, 37 years of age and the mother of two children ages 4 and 6. Rush Limbaugh talked about folks in idiot land who are trying to spin the murder of Assiya by saying it is “Not Domestic Violence”. Labeling the removal of the woman’s head as “cultural” because in Muzzimmil Hassan’s native land and under Islamic religion it condones the beheading of women in his country.
I have a news flash for those who are turning their own heads away from the truth.
This Coward or “dickless” wonder as I refer to men who use murder as a way to solve their
problems is the lowest form of human pond scum.
I am confused as to why this murderer is only charged with second-degree murder?
He was arraigned by Orchard Park, NY Village Justice Deborah Chimes. And is currently in custody at the Erie County Holding Center. Have they taken away this flight risk’s passport?
Does Muzzimmil Hassan have a dual passport? With citizenship both in his native county and the United States if he makes bail without surrending his passport he will likely flee.
Why the murderer only charged with second degree? Is it for fear of political backlash from the Islamic Community in the United States? ( not aware Islamic laws applied)
If that is the reason for down grading the seriousness of this woman's murder, it is ridiculous !
Assiya filed a court order of protection in an American court. She filed a divorce in the United States . So it would appear her rights are being swept under a cultural flying legal carpet where the laws of Islam have no jurisdiction in the United States. Assiya's murder will likely be categorized on some statistical data as just another casualty in the war on domestic violence perpetrated homicide.
What is next? A parade for this superhero coward who has made headlines back in his own country?
I remember when they pulled out the red carpet for my own super hero father after he murdered my mom back in 1989. Complete with a farewell drumroll and bag pipes in his honor.
Twenty years later we continue to look away, justifying murder!

Husband Pretends Wife is Alive

Becky Brosnan , 32 and mother of two children was found beaten to death last week.
Sadly, her estranged husband took her life. The couple was going through a divorce.
I cannot stress enough, to anyone going through a divorce, the importance of safety. Women are being slaughtered by their husbands all on the name of power and control. Often they let their guard down by agreeing to meet their estranged husbands alone to "talk things out."
And in many situations the woman talks about divorce prior to securing a proper strategy. A strategy includes not only custody, assets, legal representation, but safety.
Before you mention the word divorce in your home, especially if your partner is controlling or abusive:
You must have a safety plan.
You must notify someone each time you walk out the door.
Send out an email alert telling folks where you are going and with whom.
Take your cell phone and have it programed to 911 when in the presence of this person.
If possible have an additional back-up cell phone that you keep charged in case of emergencies.
If the situation gets heated have the phone programed to 911 and just press the button.
Keep your keys in your pocket. If you have an automatic door lock on your key ring, sound the alarm button on the device.
Never meet the person with whom you are ending your relationship with alone.
For additional information and important tasks you will need to complete pick up a copy of "Moving Out Moving On" when a relationship goes wrong. Or order on line HERE.
After he killed her, Uriah Brosnan dumped her boby near his workplace. He covered up his crime by posting on line and texting friends and relatives prentending to Becky. In an attempt to cover up the crime and buy himself time.
He sent electronic messages from Becky Brosnan’s personal accounts, including e-mail and MySpace.com, after he killed her during a fight in his office at a roofing business.
One of the posts he wrote said “I need to find me. I can’t trust anyone right now. Getting away for some me time.”
The husband is in Spokane County Jail charged with first-degree murder. Brosnan’s bail is set at $1 million.
According the NewsTribune :”The Brosnans, married in 1997, were going through a divorce. Their children – a 10-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl – were a point of contention, family members and police say.“The more she fought for her children, the harder it was,” Becky Brosnan went to meet her husband to discuss the children on Jan. 28. Uriah Brosnan told police that he picked up a hammer and hit her in the head. When she continued to fight, he picked up a metal bar and hit her numerous times, Brosnan told police.“Before I knew it, she was dead,” he said.Uriah Brosnan then bound her hands and feet, wrapped her in black plastic secured with duct tape, and dragged her – “easily” – out of the building, according to the interview with police. He left the body behind a chain link fence among composite shingles and wood scraps, next to the business, police said. Brosnan then cleaned his office and threw away his bloody clothes, police said.
In the midst of the bloody event, Brosnan’s boss, Tom Wilson, stopped by the business and noticed a light on, police said. Brosnan refused to open his office door for his boss, claiming to be alone and doing paperwork. The next day, Jan. 29, when Becky Brosnan failed to show up for a family gathering, her stepmother called police to say the absence was extremely unusual.Meanwhile, Uriah Brosnan had hacked into his wife’s e-mail and MySpace page, and used her cell phone to send text messages, police said.Police tracked the IP address to determine who had made the post on her MySpace page and determined it came from Uriah Brosnan’s computer.
He accessed her MySpace page 38 times from Jan. 28 to Feb. 6, a forensic expert determined. On Feb. 2, a text was sent from Becky Brosnan’s cell phone to her stepmom saying, “I’m OK.”One text message was sent to Bascetta saying she was out of town and that her car was at her husband’s house. When Becky Brosnan had been missing for five days, the Spokane Major Crimes unit began investigating. Detectives interviewed Uriah Brosnan and his girlfriend, Crystle Sellers, on Thursday, and they grew suspicious when his “story” varied, said Spokane police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.Brosnan was fired Friday, police said.Police searched Brosnan’s workplace Monday, where they found blood on an office chair and drag marks. A forensics team collecting evidence there early Tuesday discovered the body among the debris about 2:30 a.m., said Spokane police Sgt. Joe Peterson.Becky Brosnan’s boyfriend, Bascetta, said the family was worried about the struggles she was having with her divorce. “This happening was all in the back of our minds, but we never thought he was capable.”

A Year and a Half Later Bolingbrook Police Still Sleeping on the Job!

Kathy Savio was a a sitting duck as Drew Peterson planned her murder. In reading brief remarks made by the late Kathy Savio, red flags, not slowly burning embers should have lead to charges and the ultimate arrest and conviction of Officer Drew Peterson. But, they did not! Why? As it is within too many police departments across the country, blue defends blue. Who defends the lives of the Officers families? Certainly, not the police. Then who can they count on when their cries for help fall on deaf ears and their voice is silenced, forever?

Playing Lets Make A Deal in Melissa Lightsey's Murder

After he murdered his wife in November, Benjamin Lightsey made up a cover story about her disappearing off Vilano Beach after a midnight swim.
Lightsey hit his wife, then choked her, and when he realized what he had done, took her to the beach and left her body in the water, Mathis said.“It was a combination of temper and alcohol,” the prosecutor said. “I think it preyed on his mind. You could actually see relief cover his face when he told us what happened.”Mathis said a transcript of the statement hasn’t been completed.

Legislation For Missing and Vanished
Legislation Changes For The Missing
Peace4 the Missing member, Jan Smolinski, has tirelessly worked over 2 years to make sure that other families of the missing do not have to endure the painful process she and her family have been through while searching for answers about the disappearance of son, William "Billy" Smolinski.
An important Group has been formed at Peace4 the Missing to mobilize ALL Missing Persons organizations, no matter how large or small, to UNITE and do all we can to make sure that our nation's law enforcement agencies will be consistently using proper procedures when conducting investigations concerning the missing. Please join us and make this happen! Legislation Group
From Jan Smolinski:
The number of hurting hearts and lives tragically interrupted in this country are enormous, however, there may be an answer in the way of National Legislation. After two years of emails, phone conversations and a meeting with Mr. Todd Stein, Senator Lieberman's Washington DC office, a draft for a bill is being written and with the Grace of God an eventual bill is within site, final destination Congress. It does not matter who accomplished this, it's the fact that our citizens may have a little reprieve from the daily struggles of not knowing. Please consider what this means for our country. Right now to achieve the final goal it does take a village and in order for this to become a bill your support is absolutely needed.
Please copy and paste the letter below and send it to the Federal Legislators from you state and/or Senator Lieberman's DC office directly.
The clock is ticking, together, we can help ease the burdens of the many lives shattered senselessly.Thank you, please consider what this means and let your conscience be your guide.
Address: The Honorable Joseph I. Lieberman
United States Senate706 Hart Senate Office BuildingWashington, D.C. 20510-0703DC
Phone: 202-224-4041DC Fax: 202-224-9750

Dear Senator Lieberman:
There are 150,000 Missing and 60,000 Unidentified dead in our country. This is a Silent Crisis and can be eliminated with the proper implementation of modern technology. The process has begun through the efforts of Connecticut Senator Lieberman to change the law in our country and help our citizens achieve the peace of knowing what happened to their loved ones.We need to acquire the proper investigations after careful evaluation by law enforcement in our great nation with each and every case reported. It is important to follow proper protocol knowing that the first 24, 48, 72 hours are the most vital to retrieve evidence when trying to solve a case. Properly trained Law Enforcement will enhance safety, keep up with modern technology and become the CSI society most Americans believe we have already become. The failure to identify the UID may allow a predator (serial killer) to escape detection and continue to prey on more victims.Coroners and Medical examiners must under all circumstances when unidentified remains are found to enter DNA properly in a concise manner into the national database ( CODIS).The NamUs Program instituted by the Department of Justice is now able to be fully utilized. The program is only as good as the authorities who enter proper information accurately into the system. To date our country lacks the proper communication.Consequently by properly entering information into the Missing Persons section of Namus and information entered into the Unidentified side, matches are currently being made. The database has proven to be of value. There is a manual already available for all authorities to have as reference but to date lacks the funding,it needs to be publicized and in the hands of the very authorities whom we depend on on a daily basis. The manual was was authored by a panel of national experts representing investigators (IHIA, FOP, FBI etc), medical examiners/coroners ( NAME and IACME), victim families, groups ( NCMEC) and other experts...anthropologists, ethics (APA) . CODIS and NCIC, and prosecutors (NADA) etcWe are all striving to make our country a better place to live and put the criminals away.Ultimately we may one day be able to walk the streets again knowing our lives are in the very hands of the authorities when properly trained will truly give meaning to the Code of Ethics Oath they must take when sworn into office. Please listen to our pleas, there are thousands across this country to date who need answers and can not move forward until they are able to help lift the burdens in their hearts by not knowing.Yes, this country is in an economic crisis, however should we not start at the root of our very country, our families, our future to allow funding needed and implement a law for the well being of our citizens? After all no one is exempt. We are asking for the support of all Federal Legislators to review and encourage the progress already taken place by Senator Lieberman and carefully consider all issues mentioned above. We are also asking to expedite the draft into a bill, to be presented to Congress in the near future. This needs to be a National effort inorder to work properly and become effective.Thank you
Respectfully,
Be sure to include your name and family information on your missing loved one.

$25,000 Reward Offered For Information On Missouri Mom

The case of missing Missouri mother of three children, Renee Pernice is now officially a death investigation, she vanished Jan. 1, 2009
No surprise, Renee was last seen by her husband Shon Pernice.
"We believe foul play is involved," Clay County Prosecutor Daniel White said Thursday.
Existing evidence and the amount of time that has passed since the woman's disappearance led prosecutors to change the status from a missing persons case to a death investigation, White said. No one, or in my opinion, the only one who is responsible has yet to be arrested in his wife's murder.
Shon Pernice, a local firefighter and an Army medic who had recently returned from service in Iraq, has given different dates for when he last saw his wife, police have said.
He told relatives he last saw Renee Pernice on Jan. 1, but said it was Jan. 2 when questioned by detectives, according to court documents.Renee Pernice was in the process of divorcing her husband, who was planning to move out of the house at the end of January, relatives say.
The missing woman's family has offered a $25,000 reward for new information about her disappearance."We can't stress enough how we need someone's help out there someone who knows something," said Linda Lockwood, Renee's mother.
Last month, investigators collected carpet and blood samples from the couple's home. When they searched the house Jan. 8, they discovered latex gloves in a coat pocket, stains on a pants pocket, a reddish substance on the ceiling and a spot in the garage that turned out to be blood.

Judge Tells Offender To Be A Good Boy and He Won't Be Convicted
Instead, he blamed his upbringing.
"I never thought I would become like my father because I remember telling myself as a young teenager that I would not be violent and abusive like my dad."
Judge Davidson also granted him permanent name suppression,
Sunday News obtained the essay from Wellington District Court last week despite objections from his lawyer.
According to the police summary of facts, the man got into a "heated argument" with his wife. Then while she was lying down, attacked her.
"He punched the victim with a closed fists repeatedly to the body over a period of five to 10 minutes," the summary read.
At Wellington District Court in January last year, Judge Davidson agreed to delay sentencing, but said he would not necessarily grant the discharge because it would be "ground-breaking" if he escaped conviction a fourth time.
In October last year however after receiving the essay Judge Davidson granted the discharge.
He said he was now a changed man and did not react with his fists.
"I can now walk away if an argument starts to get heated and cool down."
The man cited his upbringing as a reason for his violence and described watching his mother "being victimised by my drunken father".
He said he would lose his job if he was convicted of assaulting his wife, his family was under financial stress and he pleaded with the judge to discharge him without conviction.
"I am hanging by a thin thread and know I have been let off several times now of being convicted. If I was to offend again I deserve to be punished severely. I ask that you do not cut the thread just yet, your honour. And please give me another chance and allow me to continue my course of overcoming and breaking the cycle of violence."
And he pleaded for name suppression because of the humiliation earlier media reports of the incident had caused his family.
"It really upset my wife and children most of all. They were made to feel like victims themselves by the people who know us.'
When Sunday News contacted the man yesterday he reluctantly admitted he was lucky to escape conviction for assaulting his wife.
"Oh yeah, I guess so."
He said he had "definitely changed", and that he had apologised to his wife several times.
The man's wife told Sunday News her husband's court case was an "extremely sensitive issue" and that she regretted the fact police had become involved.
"I can tell you right now I would never, never, never ... If (my husband) ever hit me again I would never, never report it to the police," she said.
"My children will never ring the police because of what has happened.
"My son, I thought he'd done the right thing. I certainly thought I'd done the right thing. It's hard enough emotionally without it being bought into the media.
"I want women to report this stuff but I don't want them to have to go through what I went through. That's why I'll never do it (get police involved) again."
She said her family's home life was now more settled and they were getting on with their lives.
"We had a hell of a year because of this. A terrible, terrible year. I nearly had a breakdown with it all. We nearly lost our house."
