Tonight Live: Justice Interrupted: 10:00PM Central Standard Time

Tune In: 8:00 pm Pacific--10:00 pm Central--11:00 Eastern

This Week's Guests: Mansfield Police Lieutenant Joseph Wendling--A highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, retired Lt. Colonel, and 40-year police officer still going strong will discuss his thoughts on the Oakland Police murders and how law enforcement and the media's response to them has changed over 40-years....happens to be Stacy Dittrich's own father...

Vicki Balfour--Victoria Balfour, a New York City-based journalist, spent five years working to expose Dr. Wiliam Ayres, a former President of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as a child predator. Balfour first learned about Dr. Ayres when she happened to cross paths with one of his victims in 2002. Outraged she vowed to help the man find justice. In addition to making the first whistle-blowing call to the San Mateo Police Department in California about Dr. Ayres, on her own Balfour tracked down other victims and evidence and turned it over to the police, which they used as the basis for their search warrant against Ayres. When Dr. Ayres was finally arrested in 2007 for molesting young boys sent to him for therapy, the San Francisoc Chronicle cited Balfour's efforts as the "catalyst" for the criminal investigation. To date, 41 victims have come forward and Dr. Ayres will stand trial on May 11, 2009. His lawyer Doron Weinberg is currently representing music producer Phil Spector in his murder re-trial.Balfour is a former staff reporter for People magazine.

Her articles and essays have been published in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Vogue, Glamour, Elle, and many other publications.

Katherine Cavanaugh--A rape victim will describe what steps she took to become a "survivor" not a victim, and how she has been able to lead a normal life after the violent attack.

Full Strength Prescription For Preventing Murder

[Defense Attorney Chiquita Tate 38 Years Old]

On February 20, 2009, police disovered the body of a woman who believed in the justice system so much Chiquita Tate had a tatoo on her back. She was a good lawyer. But she let her guard down when she let her estranged husband into her secure law offices. She was stabbed 38 times.
No surprises here, her husband was arrested and charged with her murder last week.

Chiquita had secured an apartment for herself and she was divorcing her husband. With whom police found enough evidence in her murder to finally make an arrest.

Nearly 80% percent of murders involving husbands, former and intimate partners in the United States occur either when the woman leaves the relationship or shortly afterward. Usually with a 24 month period.

This tragedy is important for anyone who is ending a relationship where like Chiquita there was a history of domestic violence. Yes it's good to get an order of protection but have a plan in place with the court order. If you do not it is like receiving half of a prescripton.

Never open a locked door to a person with whom you are ending a realtionship.
Never agree to meet the person to "talk things out."

Obtain a new cell phone number. Keep the old one and let it take messages. There is no law that says you have to respond in person or verbally on the phone.

Once you say to anyone who is abusive "I am ending the relationship or I am leaving", you better have an immediate plan in place. You cannot say anything about divorcing, seperating or leaving unless you are out of the residence or in a safe place where you cannot be contacted or located.

Thousands of women are being murdered. If you are involved in a violent abusive or stalking related relationship either current or former, you better have a full strength presciption for safety.

Look for answers on how to leave with your life my new show every Wednesday at 3:00 PM Central Standard Time.

Lights, Camera, Action, Murder?

People magazine is again featuring Drew Peterson and his current relationship Christina Raines in their March 26, 2009 issue. The first time Peterson was on the cover he was in uniform just a few short months after Stacy Peterson vanished.

I have written over one hundred blogs on this endless media circus because each day Drew Peterson walks among us as a free man is a reminder to me Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson did not have the same opportunity. And when magazine and televisions shows feature (in my opinion) this abusing murdering walking talking criminal silently slapping his deceased wives in their faces as though their lives meant nothing. As they [the publishers] laugh all the way to bank selling magazines featuring a man and his current love interest as though they are celebrities.

I take personal interest in cases where justice has clearly been interrupted. I am not a cop, attorney or social worker. I am a former business woman turned advocate and author when my own world was rocked, abruptly turned inside out by my father a Chicago Violent crimes detective, after years of abuse murdered my mother in cold blood, before committing suicide.

Drew Peterson has joined a growing number of men who have yet to be charged in their wives murders.

It is evident from the people magazine article society has become immune in cases where men murder in cold blood for the sake of financial gain and we place them on a throne of power.

If you really have to buy the magazine this week, I suggest your money is better spent on finding a food pantry in your area and dropping off a bag of groceries in memory of Stacy Peterson and Kathleen Savio.

Nearly Sixty percent of battered women, who unlike Kathleen and Stacy were able to escape their violent abuser’s are now among the homeless in this country.

Battered women who are homeless would rather struggle to be free from the violence, then to live with the daily uncertainty of dying at the hands of any person who steels their freedom and threatens their very existence.

Mother's day in just around the corner. In memory of these two courageous women who struggled to escape, please send donations to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence or a food pantry in your area.

Need Your Help & Support to Stop HB45 Allows Murderers Over 50 years old To Be Released From Prison

The Illinois General Assembly is voting on a dangerous bill, HB45. This means that any inmate, all convicted murderers serving 25 years or more for mass murder or horrific crimes like rape and murder of a child, etc - a chance at release when they reach the age of 50 which the bill calls "elderly", even if they are serving life without parole! Prisoners like Patricia Columbo who slaughtered her entire family in the name of love. Or the Ripper Murder Crew who murdered, raped and cannibalized more than 20 young women.

Victims families of these crimes have NOT been told of this bill .

PLEASE, we need phone calls and fax’s sent in to the Illinois Representatives listed below! It doesn’t matter if you are a resident of Illinois. These criminals will be out on our streets. Perhaps in your own neighborhoods, near tour relatives and children if we all don’t take a moment and “SAY NO TO HB 45”.

Be polite - be nice - appeal to their good nature - saying things like "I know that Representative SMITH will want to vote NO on HB 45 and would not want to see murderers sentenced to life without parole endangering all our families and the victims of these crimes put through hell".

But also be firm and emphatic - tell them this bill would require victim’s families who have NO idea this is coming and have not been told about this bill - retroactively it would completely RE-OPEN the sentencing in their cases 25 years after the life sentence or long term sentence for murder is given.

Tell them that this is the TOP priority for defeat for the statewide crime victims organization IllinoisVictims.org and that we will be working actively come the next election cycle to defeat any legislator who supports this bill and that we will turn out murder victims family members in the news media and in their districts to work to defeat them if they vote yes on HB 45.

States Attorneys oppose it. Law Enforcement opposes it. We are asking them to stand with victims and law enforcement against convicted murderers - these are all the worst of the worst - the ones sentenced to 25 years or more. The victim’s families and the taxpayers of Illinois are entitled to legal FINALITY in these cases and should not have to pay for a new hearing at 25 years to possibly let out a convicted murderer sentenced to life without parole. This bill means that the life without parole sentence for the worst offenses possible in Illinois would now become meaningless.

Tell them to vote NO on HB 45.

I have done the work here to get phone numbers for their offices - PLEASE EVERYONE we need a phone call this morning to each representative listed!

All numbers are 217-782 - and then the four numbers I have next to their name:

Pathetic Man Gets New Trial Blame's Dead Son

I’ve have just learned the reason. The couple had a son together Terry Allen Garner who was just 16 years old at the time of his mother’s death. Grief stricken and distraught over what his father did to his own mother at the age of 20 years old he committed suicide.

In June 2003, Garner pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Dec. 26, 2001, death of his wife, Kathy Garner. While James Garner entered a plea of guilty, he did not admit that he committed the crime.Kathy Garner had been found beaten to death, under her vehicle, at Molly’s Rock State Park. An autopsy revealed she had been stuck in the head at least 16 times.

Newberry Pathologist Dr. Joel Sexton said at the time it was one of the worst beatings he had ever seen.During the initial investigation in 2001, deputies allegedly received conflicting stories from James Garner. They then served a search warrant on her husband and reportedly found Kathy Garner’s blood in his car. Also found was a pry bar in the toolbox of his vehicle, allegedly with Kathy Garner’s blood and DNA on it. At the time, the pry bar was believed to be the murder weapon.Within days of going to trial, James Garner felt there was enough evidence to convict him of the murder, the defense related at the time. If a jury had found him guilty, Garner could have been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, or the death penalty. But with the 2003 plea, James Garner was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison.

James Garner later filed post conviction relief action. Around the time his own son committed suicide. So now watch as I will bet this piece of garbage will attempt to pin the death of his wife on his dead son!
An autopsy revealed she had been stuck in the head at least 16 times. Newberry Pathologist Dr. Joel Sexton said at the time it was one of the worst beatings he had ever seen.

Since the post conviction relief was granted by a judge 28 days ago, James Garner has been transferred out of the state’s custody and is now being housed at the Newberry County Detention Center.
I should point that James Garner had motive. He was having an affair with a woman in another State with whom he later married after Kathy's murder. Kathy met him there as he asked to resolve marital issues as the couple were divorcing.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand victims rights in life or death remain behind closed doors when we allow men like this to get away with murder!

Drew Peterson's Latest Addictions?

Besides being addicted to power, control abuse and murder? Drew Peterson’s latest appetite includes burgers, fries and greasy pre-packaged chicken wings washed down with several vodka gimlets.

Last week Peterson took his dolls and dishes elsewhere when WGN’s Randy Miller said no way to plugging the pre-packaged food on his show. As most abusers, when someone doesn’t do as they are told, you get punished. So Peterson attempted to punish Randy Miller and stiffed him the day of the interview.

Imagine how often Kathleen Savio was punished for not doing as she was ordered. Yes I said ordered. I can’t imagine the humiliation when Kathleen learned her husband was involved with an underage child. Here she is a devoted mother of two boys trying to provide a home and life for she and her children while Peterson prances about town with someone old enough to be his daughter. How about Peterson’s fellow co-workers? Did they think what he was doing was repulsive? Most of all Drew Peterson was violating the law himself with a minor. I think they have a name for it, oh yes, RAPE. With whom he paraded in bars and restaurants. And don’t think for a moment Peterson didn’t put that old tin badge to use when a cocktail waitress would approach the underage minor and the over the hill cop to take their drink order. “It’s okay as he reaches in his pocket” ordering drinks for the two of them.

And after Kathleen was found “drowned” in her own bathtub minus water and blood you would think cops on the Bolingbrook police department would speak up and investigate the case properly. Or maybe they were silenced with Peterson’s charming threats. You know he has friends in high places. Including the former States Attorney Tomczak with whom Peterson had a lot of personal history.

As Peterson continues to invade the airwaves, 18 months after his current wife vanishes [remember he is still married]we don’t hear the voice of a grieving or concerned husband. Instead, Peterson is a bloody pitchman for food and some bar downtown desperate for warm patrons. You know people who are still among the living able to go to their homes and be with their children and family.

Sadly, that’s not the case for Kathleen Savio or Stacy Peterson. Each woman and mother, silenced in the prime of their lives.

Is Joshua Fulgham Capable of Murder?

The human remains found in a back yard have been identified as a missing Marion County woman. Heather Strong, 26, and mother of 2 children, was last seen Feb. 15, leaving her job at the Petro truck stop in Citra.

The husband has been using Heather’s credit cards since she disappeared. What struck me as interesting was that friends of Joshua Fulgham claim he’s not capable of murder.

My question to the friends-If he was capable of beating and abusing his wife, it is likely he had something to do with her murder. Who else who know to bury her body in the backyard of her girlfriends mothers home? Clearly it was an individual who knew the area.

The woman’s husband is now in custody for using her debit card, after she was reported missing. The card was in his possession. He had used her debit card and charged hundreds of dollars of merchandise.

Fulgham has been arrested twice on charges he assaulted Strong. But friends said he's not a killer. "I really don't think he's done something like that," friend Brian Lotshaw.

On Heather’s MySpace Web site, she said that leaving Fulgham "is the best decision I've ever made."

Police said Fulgham and his new girlfriend are both considered persons of interest in the case.

Heather Strong lived in the town of MacIntosh, Florida. Perhaps once formal charges are brought against the person(s) responsible for her murder a program can be implemented to save the future women in this community. Married or in a relationship with an abusive partner. Creating a safety plan with a road map in memory of Heather Strong.

Painting A Bloody Blue Picture?

Before the Robert Vanaman trial beings next week, attorneys on both sides gathered together one final time.

Vanaman, 40, a former Millville, NJ police officer is charged with his former wife Barbara's murder, criminal restraint, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, tampering with evidence, hindering prosecution and obstructing the administration of law enforcement.

He was arrested in November 2006, more than six months after he fired two bullets into his Wife’s chest during a domestic dispute inside the kitchen of couple's home.

This case has taken a long time. I am concerned about this case in particular. This is a small town. The defendant Robert Vanaman is a respected member of the community. Vanaman comes from a law enforcement family. According to sources Barbara Vanaman was afraid of her husband. As most women married to an abuser are who happens to be a police officer. rarely are reports made after a dispute. Often as in this case, supervisors may have been called to the Wedgewood Court home, but, refused to make a report against their supervising Sargent. And of course records have vanished.

Barbara sought the advice of a divorce attorney. She had enough of the threats and ongoing abuse by her then husband "sweet" Robert.

The defense will attempt to use psychological records in an attempt to paint a picture that Barbara had mental health and anger issues. I am outraged when I see the same song played as it pertains to those women married to an abuser who carries a badge and a gun. This case is a perfect example. The victim’s life prior to her murder should have no significance in a court of law. And yet, it will be the center of attention in this case. It does not matter what she did or did not do. The fact is Barbara Vanaman is dead.

Did she have training to properly defend herself? Answer: No

Did she make Robert Vanaman pull the trigger? Answer: No

Did she go after Robert in the kitchen that afternoon? Answer: No

Did she try to leave her abusive relationship? Answer: Yes

Is Barbara Vanaman on trial? Answer: Yes

GPS Monitoring Device Failed 13 Year-Old Child

[Alycia D. Nipp, age 13]

What is a GPS Monitor for if the person wearing it isn't monitored? Sounds as if the parents
of 13 year-old Alycia Nipp from Vancouver, WA, have a law suit waiting to be filed.

Last month Alycia was sexually assualted and then murdered by a level 3 sexual offender by the name of Darrin Eugene Sanford [Criminal History] is as follows:

Darrin Eugene Sanford was convicted in 1998 of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes and two counts of luring minors with sexual motivation.

He was placed on probation, which he violated three times before he was arrested in connection with Alycia Nipp’s murder:

• On November 15, 2006, Sanford was jailed for failing to register as a sex offender. He was released July 31, 2008, and ordered to wear a GPS anklet.

• He was then detained August 20 for being in contact with a minor and failing to register. He was released October 19, again with an ankle bracelet.

• On November 24, authorities arrested Sanford for a misdemeanor property violation. He was released with a GPS device January 3, just 49 days before Licy’s murder.

Where are the person(s) responsible for monitoring activity of those on the bracelets?

Sanford was wearing the device seven weeks later when he tried to rape Licy before beating and stabbing her in a field a couple of blocks from the street where she lived, according to police.

Authorities said they used GPS to corroborate Sanford's confession. A Clark County judge last week postponed his arraignment until June so the defense and prosecution can prepare for death penalty arguments.

Sanford's defense attorney Michael Foister declined to comment on the allegations against his client.

Debate over GPS
The slaying rocked the enclave of Hazel Dell in Vancouver, a 15-minute drive from Portland, Oregon, and serves as fodder for those who claim GPS is used too broadly and bluntly as a tool for keeping tabs on offenders.

"They can't monitor it live, and even if you could monitor it live, him being in the field wouldn't have told you [if] he was murdering the girl," said Evan Mayo-Wilson, an Oxford University lecturer who has studied the use of GPS.There are two types of GPS monitoring: active, in which the offender's whereabouts are surveyed in real-time, and passive, in which probation or parole officers check an offender's movements after the fact.Sanford was passively monitored, said Anmarie Aylward, the Washington DOC's program administrator.

Both types of GPS are important tools for law enforcement, Mayo-Wilson said, but the technology must be coupled with other efforts to reduce recidivism, including treatment programs, personal visits and interviews with neighbors, family members and employers.

Sex offenders should be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and supervision programs must be based on fluid assessments that weigh the likelihood of reoffense, said Peter Ibarra, a sociologist at the University of Illinois-Chicago who studies the use of GPS in stalking and domestic violence cases."You have to use it very responsibly," Ibarra said. "It's a technology that cannot stand alone, especially if you're thinking about using it with offenders who imperil the public."

Given this man's history, there is no excuse for what the City or County failed to do.

Their Jobs!

"Hell of a Nice Guy", says Neighbor. Please!

This tragedy is disturbing on many levels. First, they have yet to print the cowards name in the newspaper. One would think after taking an axe and murdering your estranged wife who was a correctional officer, at the very least his name would be mentioned in the context of the media articles.

The cowardly man without a name also took an axe to his step-daughter. She lived for several hours. And later died.

Numerous signs point to difficulties between the two--from a neighbor who gives an account that the husband was having a difficult time after they seperated. To the slain woman filing for divorce in January. And the sheriff's office confirms "the woman had a restraining order against her husband. He wasn't supposed to be on the property, and right now no one knows why he was."

To the haunting messages scrawled with red spray paint on the house and an outbuilding show clear signs of desperation. "Staying in a hotel...running out of money," reads one. "Could not find help...no where to go," reads another hand painted sprayed message.

And then we have then neighbors could not believe the news. "Couldn't be doing something without him wanting to help, he's just a hell of a nice guy you would have never thought would do this, says Joe Kaszycki, a neighbor.

This "guy" is not different than all the hundred's of thousands of others who decide ending a relationship equals murder.

You can have all the mental experts in the world form their opinions and the outcome will be the same. There is no magic "solution" in curing anyone who solves their anger issues with murder. You can blame their childhood. You can point to the fact that this man snapped because the loss was too difficult. But it will not bring this woman or any murder victims back.

Instead of sugar coating this epidemic. Handle these tragedies no diffently than covering the war over in Iraq. A war not easily won in American homes across the country. Where placing a band aid on a boo boo to stop the bleeding will do nothing.

We must be bolder in the messages sent to women right now, who are still alive. Living with abuse. Afraid to leave for fear they will be killed.

If we want to save lives, we must remove the false white picket fences that surround these homes. Perhaps gather a large collection of crime scene photo's and video tapes of the bloody home, the victim and then at the morgue similar to presentations on aftermath of drunk driving prevention . Taking the video and photo's into the community so they are able to see first hand what really goes on in their perfect neighborhoods.

And just maybe, we will save a few million lives!

On Trial From the Grave

The trial doesn't begin until March 23, 2009 in the murder of Barbara Vanaman, a police officers wife shot twice in May of 2006.

It comes as no suprise from the grave this victims life will be placed on trial. Often, we do not think much about the lives of women caught in the cross fire of police perpetrated violence or homicide. Because they are rarely given the opportunity to speak. Often silenced in their tracks by a badge and a gun.

This case like so many thousands of others is no different. Barbara was moving on with her life. She was seeking a divorce. This is a dangerous time for any woman let alone the wife of a person in law enforcement.

This week a judge allowed Barbara Vanaman's private counseling records to be unsealed. You see while see is unable to defend herself from the grave, her husband's defense team will be picking apart line by line every word written by a private therapist.

I do not agree with the releasing of these mental health case files. Especially since former police Sgt. Robert Vanaman planned Barbara's murder. This was not a random act or an accident. Robert Vanaman was angry. He simply sought revenge.

Barbara Vanaman was sentenced to death. Silenced, for wanting out of her abusive marriage.

Drew Peterson "I Didn't Care Then, I Don't Care Now"

"Eighteen months said Drew Peterson, I didn't care then and I don't care now" [refering to Thomas Morphey and the immunity deal with the State's Attorney moving a body in a blue barrel]

With microphones shoved in Drew's direction. News reporters asked questions in the driveway of Stacy Peterson's home. I think her name is still on the title of to the house?

Oh wait, I am confusing this with the recently signed car title to live-in bed warmer Christina Raines. Can he do that? Was the title of the car driven and owned by Stacy in Drew Peterson's name? Or did he go ahead and sign Stacy's name anyway to the car title? You know he's good at signing people's names to documents living or deceased.

Take Kathleen's Will as an example. Yes,another media event, as Drew Peterson's legal marshmallow roaster take's the issue of Kathleens estate, all the way to the supreme court.
Send that man a bag of campfire marshmallows. Because that's the only thing that will stick to the bottom of his shoe's after he is turned down at the supreme court on Kathleen Savio's Will.

Martin Glink, one of the attorneys representing the Kathleeen Savio’s family, did not consider Brodsky’s appeal to the Supreme Court to be much of a threat to his case.
I would doubt very much the Supreme Court would find this novel enough to hear,” Glink said.“I don’t think it raises any conflict among the judicial circuits,” he said. “I think what the appellate court did and what Judge Goodman did was correct.”

Come to think of it, the bed in Drew Peterson's home belonged to Kathleen Savio, wife #3. After her death, on the day of Kathleen's funeral Drew had a moving truck and hauled everything inside the home a few blocks away to his new home he bought with his current wife Stacy Peterson. The bed was moved into Stacy and Drew's master bedroom.

But, wait, I keep forgetting the same bed occupied by wives #3 and #4 is now occupied by Christina and Drew. I hope at least Drew shelled out money for a new matress.

Now the trick is for Drew to declare in a court of Stacy abandoned him. You remember Drew said she's not comming back and he wants to get married. How would he know for certain Stacy is not returning?

Unless, wait a minute. Thomas Morphey is telling the truth!

Could it be? Thomas Morphey is not as crazy as Drew and "The Legal Marshmallow Roaster" would have us all believe and a body was carried down those stairs.

Domestic Violence and Family Pets

Imagine living in an abusive home. Maybe you think it would be easy to “just leave.”
But what if doing so meant abandoning a beloved pet with your abuser? And what if that abuser had previously hurt your pet, or threatened to harm or even kill your pet if you were to leave?
This is the tragic situation that many women -- and their children -- are facing.
Very few domestic violence shelters offer on-site housing for pets. As a result, a significant number of women choose to stay in dangerous households, keeping themselves, their children and their pets in harm’s way.

According to a 2007 review of a dozen research studies, up to 48 percent of women in abusive relationships had concerns about the safety of their pets that affected whether they stayed in abusive homes.

No one should have to choose between their own safety and the safety of another family member, including a pet.

R17;s American Humane needs your help.

The Power of PAWS

Your donation will support American Humane’s Pets and Women’s Shelters (PAWS)™ Program, which helps women’s shelters and safe houses build and maintain accommodations for residents’ pets. The program is critical because it eliminates a significant obstacle to women leaving abusive relationships.

Since its inception one year ago, the PAWS Program has made tremendous progress. Currently, eight shelters provide on-site housing for pets and three more are in the process of doing so.
But approximately 2,500 family violence shelters have yet to consider the benefits of housing pets. We have a long way to go, and we’ll only get there with the help of donors like you.
Please give what you can to help keep women, children and pets together -- and safe!

Stacy Peterson's Billboard

The Photo was taken by the Adminstrator of a blog as it relates to the Drew Peterson case.

In Bolingbrook Illinois off a very busy ramp, with perfect placement is a digital billboard which has been up for almost 2 weeks.

Any news or information that continues to keep this case generating in the media and on the Internet is important.

To date, Drew Peterson continues to walk among us, a free man. But according to Joe Hosey, reporter and author of Fatal Vows his days could be numbered. To read the lastest on the case go to the Peterson Story site, HERE.

Again, any press highlighting the murder(s) of Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson or the fact that Peterson is a self appointed dickless wonder whom women find attractive written in this weekends Chicago Sunday Sun-Times by Mark Brown.
This is another reminder, Drew Peterson in my opinion is still breathing. His last 2 wives are not!

"Returning To The Scene of A Love Crime"

Delores Joseph, 31 and the mother of 3 children ages, 3,12 and 14, left her home and ran to the store. She told her children “I’ll be right back.”

On March 5, 2009 in a canal police discovered the 31 year mother, murdered.

Five days prior, police arrested Joseph’s husband, Dwayne “Keke” Joseph, on domestic violence charges stemming from separate incidents involving Delores Joseph. He is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and second-degree battery are among the charges this coward faces.“According to news accounts the couple separated in September 2008, according to a letter from Delores Joseph’s family. Shortly afterward, Dwayne Joseph allegedly returned to the home and vandalized Delores Joseph’s car and then her rental car, the family letter stated.“Delores returned home one night, and Dwayne jumped out of the closet and attempted to assault her,” the letter stated. “Delores defended herself with an iron.”The couple eventually reconciled their differences until Feb. 7. While the two were leaving a Mardi Gras ball, he allegedly turned on her and began beating and choking her in the backseat of a car. One week later, Dwayne Joseph allegedly held Delores and her friend at gunpoint. The two were able to escape unharmed. Delores Joseph and her children spent three days at a shelter”

There are enough violent episodes in their relationship to see all the bells and whistles. Yes, I realize it is easy to say, because the woman is gone. But maybe somewhere in cyber land we can learn from this tragedy.

You may know a Delores, Mary, Roberta or Renee. This person could be a friend, relative co-co-worker or neighbor. Almost daily we read about these tragedies after the fact. What are we doing to help families in these situations? This issue of domestic violence perpetrated homicide continues to be an epidemic without adequate solutions on a case by case basis.

Women return back to the scene of the crime. “Returning home” they love the person who is abusing them. There are not in love with being beaten, kicked punched and almost killed. They love the person with whom they began their life’s journey. A woman thinks and believes the person will change. What they don’t see is that once they are chocked, kicked or a gun pulled to their temple, if they escape in one piece, they should never, ever return.

The abuser has already laid the foundation. The phrase, “if you leave, I will find you. If I find I will kill you is difficult for many women to believe. A woman doesn’t really see the person she loves being capable of murder. But how can they not see? On Friday’s Oprah show as they were discussing Rihanna and Chris Brown, she hoped the couple would seek professional counseling. That the couple would spend time apart and work through the problems. And Oprah and her panel made interesting observations in the matter. I wonder if the next we read about Rihanna the headlines will read “No More Music.”

My mother was no different. It didn’t matter much what my father did to her. In the end, just before he put the cold barrel of the gun to her head, she loved him. And, at the same time my mother feared him. But, she always said “I have things under control.” She did not. Nor do any of us in a violent relationship.

You cannot control the actions of another person. No one can.

But you can get out. All if you have to do is believe anything is possible.

Understanding Definitions of Abuse in Relationships

Abuse occurs when a significant other, spouse, current or former girlfriend or boyfriend mistreats you. It takes many forms and has many names: domestic violence, battered woman, spousal abuse, partner abuse, wife abuse or victim.

Physical abuse is any type of aggressive behavior directed at another's physical body, such as shoving, pinching, squeezing, hair pulling, restraining, shaking, grabbing, biting, slapping, punching, kicking, or choking. It also includes throwing objects or using a weapon. This often result in serious injuries, but many are subjected to varying degrees of physical abuse without suffering physical injury visible to the eye. I often refer to it as tire track treads deep inside. The kind a car makes on pavement when driving fast and suddenly the car stops and on the pavement are the tire marks. Only you know the marks are there, no one else can see them.

Sexual abuse is forced without your consent in any type of sexual activity. No one, not even a husband, has the right to force a woman to participate in sexual activity if she doesn't want to. If force or threats of force are used to gain the woman's compliance, the abuser can be charged with sexual assault. This happens frequently when the woman files for divorce or ends the relationship. The abuser is angry. A woman must be extra careful during this heated time. Always be aware of your surroundings. Never allow the abuser to get behind you and grab you in a locked hold. If he does this try and speak to him calmly, submit if you must for your own safety. Try and keep the abuser in front of you at all times.

Psychological and verbal abuse is the infliction of emotional pain and suffering by doing things to control or degrade, such as persistent verbal attacks on self-esteem, constant accusations of infidelity, threats of suicide, control over friends and money, and threats of harm to the kids and outside friends or family members. Think of this as "coward talk". They would not dare speak to others outside of your relationship this way. How often do you hear those words "You are not good enough"? or "Where were you, who were you with"? Verbal attacks over time are damaging to your entire being. You start believing this person.

Forced confinement is when someone does not allow another person out of, for example, a house, room, bed, or chair for extended periods of time. They disable your car or take away the keys. The phone bill may not get paid so you will not be able to call anyone. If you are disabled and depend on a cane or wheel chair it may be removed or hidden in the home. You could be locked in a room or a basement or attic.

Definitions

Abuse towards pets or property is the destruction of property or animals with the explicit or implicit threat that "the victim and or children are next." Killing the family pet is a sure sign you could be next. An abuser will destroy items, heirlooms, works of art to gain control of you. In extreme cases this can mean serious bodily arm or even death to your own children.

Financial Abuse is no access to bank accounts or money. You may live in a beautiful home, wear the latest fashions, your children whom are well-equipped with toys and luxuries, but have no control over what is spent or saved, over what moneys come into the household. You are not allowed any decisions about what will be bought. You are never given money for personal use. Everything is under lock and key. During tax time, the abuser points to the line where you are required to sign the tax return, or else.

Harassment is when a person creates a disturbance at work or school. Constantly calling you to see where you are and ask what you are doing. This will cause you emotional distress.

Stalking is a series of events between to people. Stalking is considered to be any unwanted contact by a husband, partner, significant other, ex- boyfriend or spouse. The laws vary from State to State. It includes constant phone calls. Magically appears at your place of employment. Stalkers also send victims flowers, letters, emails. When a stalker does not get their way after a while they step up their efforts to stalk and harass the victim. When a relationship is or has ended, stalkers increase their efforts to harass and intimidate. They want to know their victims every move.

Rihanna in the Market For An Unusal Item?

On Thursday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office changed Chris Brown with 2 felony counts for the brutal beating of Rihanna. I watched the coverage on CNN with Rick Sanchez as he was reading the indictment.

My thoughts immediately went to what Chris Brown would do if found guilty and had to serve time in a state prison. In my expert opinion, Brown has a serious anger problem. He is likely to commit murder and then turn the gun on himself. Cowards like Brown usually take the easy way out. And with so much public pressure on the case it isn't healthy for either person.

Circulating is the rumor: “couple were secretly married

Chris Brown has reportedly proposed to Rihanna and according to sources Rihanna has accepted and the two have gotten married in a secret wedding. In the latest shocking news of the Rihanna and Chris Brown celebrity saga, not only have the two reportedly back together since the alleged domestic assault which occurred pre-night the Grammy’s, but now the two may have already held a secret marriage after they had a reported tearful meeting and Chris Brown proposed.According to Star Magazine, the two had an arranged meeting that became tearful at which point both parties, Rihanna and Chris Brown expressed their devoted loyalty to one another as Rihanna allegedly confessed to Chris Brown, “I can’t live without you,” after Brown first apologized, begged for forgiveness and proposed to Rihanna on the spot.“All she’s ever wanted was to be with him forever,” a source stated to Star Magazine.

Someone from the mental health community Experienced with issues of strong attachment as it relates to battered women should intervene. Rihanna is not to blame. She did nothing wrong. needs But she requires a reality check before she ends up in a body bag. And I don’t believe they have a recording studio broadcast from heaven .

Yes, as someone who works these crimes 24/7 specific to the area of domestic violence perpetrated homicide. The star better think about shopping for a designer body bag. She is going to need it!

Receiving Credit For Murder!

In 1987 Richard Wiley murdered his wife. He stood over Ruth Wiley and stabbed her approiximately 23 times. With the murder weapon still in his hands he called police to confess the crime.

Wiley attempted to create an insanity defense , but the judge did not buy it that morning. I do question the judge's sanity in handing down a sentence for which Richard Wiley was allowed back out into the general population to begin a new life. The State's Attorney at the time sought an 80-year prison term.

And what was the Illinois Department of corrections and the parole board thinking when Richard Wiley was released from prison? Did they bother to read Wiley's prison file? The sentence is 30 years, Wiley only serves 13 years in jail for the murder of his 25 year old wife. Someone in charge probably did not have access to a calculator that day.

The morning the judge handed down the sentence, did he perhaps require an interpreter? To translate the evidence in this case. Maybe the judge forgot his hearing aide? Or maybe he forget his glasses and was unable to look at the crime scene photo's? Why not a life sentence without the possibility of parole? Or could it be they were passing out free jelly donuts and coffee in the Cook County judge's chambers? Fact is, there is no adequate answer for ignorance. And that is exactly what happened.

I am confused by the prison system when they reward bad behavior like murder[the crime] with good behavior [time behind bars] for each day of a sentence served. You get a good day when you take the life of another person. The prison system refers to this as a "good day". That means when a person is in prison if they behave in prison and do not get into trouble a "credit" is given in kind for following prison rules and regulations.

Eight and two-thirds years ago he meets and marry's Kathryn Wiley. A single mother of then 9-year old Christopher Motes. kathryn a church secretary likely fell for Wiley's charm while he was on probabtion building church cabinets on the premises.

The church community welcomed Richard Wiley, a dangerous killer not likely to change his ways anytime soon. Then, when all was quiet, Wiley snaps. Not only does he murder his new wife Kathryn, but, in the line of fire 17-year old Christopher Motes is also killed.

It is a tragedy all the way around. A leopard does not change their stripes. Once a killer, always a killer.

South Carolina Court Allows Killer A Chance at Freedom

In December of 2001, James R. Garner, was arrested for the murder of his wife. He beat Katherine Garner to death with a pry bar. The killer had motive as his new love interest patiently waited for Garner to leave and divorce his wife. Obviously, this coward did not think the life of Katherine Garner had much value. Then again, violent abusers, never do.

In June of 2003, James Garner plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 25-year jail sentence. Now, 6- years after pleading guilty, he filed a post conviction relief action with the courts and has been granted a new trial.

Garner, like so many who murder their wives, are being given a big break in the legal system when they plead guilty to a lesser offense.
No one in this country who commits murder should be given a choice by pleading to a lesser crime. Murder means the person is never returning. This should translate to any person who takes the life of a another human being ever been allowed to plea bargain and see the light of day.

On February, 19, 2009, Terry Allen Garner 22, took his own life. He was the couple’s son. And I hold Garner responsible for what he did to his own child. Life for those who remain behind after a family member is murdered is unbearable. Unfortunately, I understand all too well what happens when your father kills your mother. You become paralyzed this grief. And that is exactly what happened with Terry.

Earlier this evening on Justice Interrupted radio we discussed this case. Prosecutor Robin Sax provided an interesting point of view. A person should not be afforded the opportunity to say “sorry, I changed my mind.” Mr. Garner made up his mind , took the deal after he killed his Katherine and the mother of his children. He also killed his son. Garner took away his child’s spirit and soul when he murdered his mother.

Now a judge has granted a return of purchase to a court of law. It’s like a sales slip. The expiration date has long passed and yet the court customer can return to validate by filing a relief action that should not be admissible in court.

The family of Katherine Garner must peacefully protest on the steps of this South Carolina courthouse each day of the trial. Enlist the community, church groups and family members.
You cannot bring Katherine Garner or her son Terry Allen Garner back. There is no return ticket.

And there should be no return to a court of law for a man whom, in my opinion murdered, not once, but twice!
