When Marriage Turns Deadly

According to David Lohr’s Blog “There are several cases of missing mothers in the news right now. Two of those cases – Kelly Currin Morris and Corrie L. Anderson – have received a considerable amount of coverage here in recent months. Now another case - a Missouri mother of three – joins them among the pages of the missing, Renee Pernice……….

Not long ago cases of mothers vanishing , received little to nothing in the way of media coverage. A few scattered blurbs here and there it was more of a missing persons case if law enforcement couldn't find a body. Often police would not do much in the way of investigation, how could they? A potential crime scene in the residence of where the couple shared their lives. Unless they have a good reason to ask for a search warrant, it may not happen. Or too much time elapses and important evidence is destroyed. The case is now cold and it gets thrown into the pile of missing or unsolved cold cases. In part, this is due to lack of training in the area of domestic violence crimes. But,the Internet has become an important tool in bringing awareness to mothers and girlfriends missing at the hands of those who profess to love them. Pressure is placed from the community to law enforcement to investigate these cases. The Internet keeps their cases alive in hopes that someone will come forward or the person responsible is finally brought to justice.

One of the highest profile cases of mothers vanishing is Stacy Peterson. The Bolingbrook wife and mother married to the police Sergeant whom we see parading himself all over national television with a catch me if you can attitude.

None of these women could have predicted their fate. Each married to in my opinion murdering monsters. Their very existence based on power and control over every detail in their lives.
These men thought carefully when they discovered the mothers of their children and wives confronted their husbands with the startling news, they were leaving. Making plans to move forward without their abusive and controlling husbands.
In studying these cases for nearly twenty years, the majority of these cases have several similarities:
The women are stalked and tracked throughout their daily routines.
They have been somewhat isolated from friends and family.
They have been physically or verbally threatened with bodily harm if they don’t listen, or decide to leave.
They did not have a plan of action that included evidentiary documentation.
They confronted the person, disclosing to them their plans in ending the marriage or relationship.
The children of these women are, motherless.

Each, have vanished, or been killed.
While I can never bring my own mother back since her murder almost twenty years ago at the hands of man who was also angry she was moving forward with her life. I am able to help others within communities across the country providing effective strategies and tools for those in danger. I can be contacted via email at: Contact@movingoutmovingon.com

ABC's Nightline Features The Life of a Trained Killer ?

Tonight, Drew Peterson once again, appears on television. This time, he's on ABC's program Nightline.

WE must not forget, 2 of his wives are dead. His children will never again see or hear their mother's face or voices. Had Stacy not vanished Kathleen Savio (wife #3) body would have never been exhumed. And the real truth of a botched murder investigation might have never surfaced.

Two women married to a man who by all accounts was an abuser with a badge and a license to carry a weapon. I give Peterson a lot of credit for having the balls to parade himself and his next victim as though they were hollywood royalty.

Stacy Peterson and Kathleen Savio were forever silenced. Each time you see Peterson remember these women were unable to seek the resources necessary to get out from under his control with their lives. Why? Because he was the law!

Murder Trial For Tin Badge Police Officer Scheduled

Finally after nearly 3 years, the trial for the murder of Barbara Vanaman has been set for trial by a judge. I stand by my position in this case, jury or not. It is my opinion, Barbara Vanaman, shot twice in the chest at close range by her police officer husband, was premeditated murder.
It will be interesting to see how the defense for Vanaman uses their bag of tricks in this case . Add in the fact that Robert Vanaman comes from a cop family and he's been a model citizen and loving father to his 2 boys since he murdered his wife, Barbara Vanaman.

Failure to Respond to Murder/Suicide Costs Lives

The Albuquerque Police Department's failure to respond to repeated calls that a pregnant woman was in danger at the hands of her boyfriend - an incident that ended with him killing her and himself - already led Alburquerque Police Department to make significant changes.

Now it will cost the department $685,000, as well.
_______________________
City attorneys confirmed Monday they have reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed by the family of Randi Regensberg, a 21-year-old woman who was killed in a murder-suicide by her estranged boyfriend, Cory Kotrba, in 2006.

Friends of Regensberg had called 911 five times to report that she was in danger at the hands of Kotrba, who was a Los Alamos County firefighter. It took police more than an hour and a half to respond, which occurred after both were dead.
Those friends had also tried to get help from an off-duty Albuquerque police officer, Hector Chavez, who lived nearby and refused to render aid.
"This was tragic," said Albuquerque deputy city attorney Kathy Levy. "We are just glad it is resolved. We have heartfelt feelings for the family. Their loss was tragic and we have all felt it."
In the wake of the tragedy, APD put in place different work schedules, a new dispatch system and different rules for what constitutes a priority call. In addition, Chavez was disciplined and a dispatcher resigned.

Robert Rothstein, who represented Regensberg's family, said his clients were comforted that APD has made changes.
"The family is satisfied that they effected some significant changes in the way the system works," Rothstein said. "There is some sense of satisfaction that their daughter's death and their grandchild's death wasn't entirely in vain."

On July 7, 2006, Regensberg's friends called 911 and reported that a neighbor had seen Regensberg dragged into Kotrba's home.
They told dispatchers that the back door was blocked by a table, adding that Kotrba had guns and that Regensberg, who was six months' pregnant, was being held against her will. Friends also told dispatchers there was a history of violence between the two.
But dispatchers kept telling the friends no officers were available to take the call, which wasn't classified top priority, police have said.
While the friends kept calling 911 from the outside of the home, one of them noticed a police car parked in the driveway just a few blocks away and knocked on the door.
The police officer, Chavez, who was also named in the family's lawsuit, told the female friend there was nothing he could do because he was off duty. He also refused to make a phone call to 911 to have an officer sent out sooner, the family's lawsuit claimed.
Police went to Kotrba's home in the 7700 block of Javelina SW only after the fifth call - and after Kotrba's roommate had arrived and allowed the friends inside where they found the couple dead.
The first call was placed at 7:51 p.m., the last one at 9:29 p.m., according to police records.
The Regensberg case has been used as a training tool and is brought up at nearly every academy class, police officials said.
Police Chief Ray Schultz said his entire department knows the name "Randi Regensberg."
"This incident is never really going to be behind us," Schultz said Monday. "There are certain cases that everybody in the department knows about that send a very strong message in the organization about what could happen when things go wrong, and this is one of them."
The changes include:
* Altering the department's work schedules from four 10-hour days to five eight-hour days, a move that has upset many officers. But APD says response times have improved.
* Installing a new computer-aided dispatch system that allows supervisors to see how calls are being handled.
* Writing new policies on how calls are prioritized.
* Requiring dispatchers to broadcast on police radio frequencies whenever calls are holding.
Under state law, the maximum a jury could have awarded the Regensberg family is $750,000 because the city is publicly funded. The award will be paid out of the city's Risk Management fund.
The city of Albuquerque has a "no settlement" policy on suits filed alleging police misconduct.
Levy said the policy didn't apply in this case since the suit was not alleging excessive force and it dealt with systematic issues.
Levy noted that under the settlement, the city is not admitting liability.
ALBUQUERQUE TRIBUNE/JULY 11, 2006

Even if Albuquerque police had responded immediately to the first 911 call about a domestic violence incident Friday, they say it would have been too late to save Randi Regensberg's life.
Still, the Police Department is changing the way it prioritizes calls that come from secondhand sources regarding a violent situation, police spokeswoman Trish Hoffman said Tuesday.
Hoffman spoke about the policy change as the department released a series of 911 calls regarding the apparent murder-suicide at the home of Regensberg's ex-boyfriend, Cory Kotrba, at 7716 Javelina Road S.W.
Police believe Kotrba, 28, shot 21-year-old Regensberg, who was six months pregnant with his child, shortly after the two arrived at Kotrba's home at 6 p.m. Friday.
Both bodies were found around 9:30 p.m. - 1 hours after the first 911 call was placed by Regensberg's friend, a woman identified as Christine, 21.
That call and three others were assigned priority level two, not top level one, because they weren't firsthand information about an assault, Hoffman said.
Today, all four calls made before the final call, in which Christine reported finding both bodies, would be categorized as priority one and put first in line for response, Hoffman said.
But Hoffman said the first 911 call Friday didn't come in until 7:55 p.m., almost two hours after forensic examiners believe Kotrba shot Regensberg before turning the gun on himself.
Hoffman said she doesn't remember a similar situation in the recent past.
The series of calls went this way, according to the recordings released Tuesday:
• 7:51 p.m.: A man named Elias, identified as another ex-boyfriend of Regensberg's, arrives at Kotrba's home after Christine tells him to come over. Neighbors tell him they saw Kotrba drag Regensberg inside the home. Elias reports this in the first call to 911.
• 8:12 p.m.: Christine calls 911 again, telling the dispatcher Kotrba owns a gun. She says the two have been inside for two hours.
• 8:30 p.m.: "It's been a while since I've called in," Elias reports. He also says that a table barricades the back door, and there are no lights on inside the home.
The dispatcher tells him it's been a busy night.
"I'm a volunteer fireman. I understand how that goes," Elias says.
• 9:11 p.m.: Christine calls from outside the house, saying her friend is "being held against her will," and tells dispatchers Regensberg is pregnant. Dispatchers tell Christine her call is the next in line for dispatching.
• 9:28 p.m.: Christine has been let into the house by Kotrba's roommate, identified as Gilbert. Crying, she tells the dispatcher she has found both bodies, shot to death

Father Murders 5 Children & Wife

(pictured above are the Lupoe Children)

LOS ANGELES, CA —Just a few hours ago, a Ervin Lupoe upset over job problems fatally shot his wife, five young children and himself at their harbor-area home Tuesday. Police said the victims included two sets of twins.

Shortly before the killings, the Mr. Lupoe faxed a letter to a TV station claiming that he and his wife had been fired from jobs as medical technicians and she suggested they kill themselves and their children, too.

"Why leave the children to a stranger?" the man wrote, according to KABC-TV.
KABC reported that the man claimed in the fax that a medical center administrator rebuffed them when they showed up to work, told them to file a union grievance and said, "You should have blown your brains out."
The man wrote that they filed a grievance but nothing was done and two days later they were fired, KABC said.

"They did nothing to the manager who started such and did not attempt to assist us in the matter, knowing we have no job and five children under 8 years old with no place to go. So here we are," the note said.

At the bottom of the note, the man wrote, "Oh lord, my God, is there no hope for a widow's son?"

The note said the couple worked at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, but police said they were trying to confirm that. A message seeking comment from the medical center was not immediately returned.

The family was not immediately identified. Police said the child victims were an 8-year-old girl, twin 5-year-old girls and twin 2-year-old boys. It was the third mass slaying of a family in Southern California since fall.

"Today our worst fear was realized," said Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner. "It's just not a solution. There's just so many ways you find alternatives to doing something so horrific and drastic as this."

Police described the fax but did not release the detail reported by the KABC.
"He was going through some critical situation at the job, that's what he described in that two-page letter, ongoing problems at the job, and that's what prompted him to take his own life and his family, from what was said in the fax letter," Garner said.
The TV station called police after receiving the fax, and a police communications center also received a call from a man who stated, "'I just returned home and my whole family's been shot,"' Garner said.

"There is a disconnect but we believe our suspect is the one who called," Garner said.
Garner said a note was found in the home, but it was not clear if it was what had been faxed to the TV station.
Officers rushed to the two-story home in Wilmington, near the Port of Los Angeles, shortly before 8:30 a.m., apparently within minutes of the killings. Garner said the officers could still smell the gunshot residue.

The bodies of the girls and the father were in one bedroom. The mother and boys were in another bedroom.

Although the fax asserted that the woman was involved, police Lt. John Romero said, "It is apparent that the suspect in the murder is the male adult."

The two-story home, much larger than its one-story neighbors, sits in front of a railroad track in Wilmington, a 10-square-mile community about 18 miles south of downtown. A children's playset stood in the backyard and a pickup truck and sport utility vehicle were parked in the concrete front yard.

In 2008
On Dec. 24, Bruce Pardo, 45, dressed up as Santa Claus and invaded a Christmas Eve party at his ex-wife's parents' home in suburban Covina, opened fire with a gun and set the house ablaze with racing fuel. Ex-wife Sylvia Pardo and eight relatives were fatally shot or burned. Pardo later killed himself.

In October, a 45-year-old unemployed financial manager despairing over extreme money problems shot and killed his wife, three children, mother-in-law and himself in their home in the Porter Ranch area of the San Fernando Valley.
Karthik Rajaram wrote in a suicide letter he felt the honorable choice was to kill himself and his family instead of just himself, police said.

New York Knicks Son : A Witness to Murder

Nova Henry, just 24 years old and her 9-month old baby daughter Ava were shot dead around 6 p.m. in her West side Chicago apartment on Saturday. Her 3 -year old son, unharmed, witnessed the killings.

Police are saying the suspect is a “known acquaintance” in the murders. It is a person with whom Nova recently ended a relationship with whom she took out a court order of protection against.

In addition, according to 2005 courts records, New York Knicks Baskeball center Eddy Curry is the father of the 3-year old boy. Nova Henry had filed not one but 2 seperate parentage petitions, one in 2005 for the son and another in 2008 claiming Ava Henry, the baby was also the daughter of the $9.4 million dollar a year star.

A little background on the loving father Eddy Curry he is married to Patrice and the father of four other children. He claimed he was not the father of the couple's latest out of wedlock "love child" who was murdered with her mother.

The basketball player was also hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit two weeks ago. A former male employee is claiming Curry made sexual advances towards him.

Hopefully, Eddy Curry will step up and meet his responsibilities and raise the now motherless 3-year old son.

The order of protection is nothing more than a legal paper trail. Hopefully in this case it will lead to the arrest of the person responsible because the information is in the sheriff's data base.

And, I have yet to see any information on this person by name in the news or if Chicago police have him in their custody.

Maybe Eddy Curry, the "cheat on his wife and family man," can catch a flight to Chicago and be with his son. It is the least he can do.

Is a Kansas City Fireman Responsible For His Wife's Disappearance?

Renee Michelle Pernice, mother of 3 children, has vanished. On an off since 2005, she and her husband, a firefighter in Independce, Kansas have had they share of marital problems.
In 2007, Renee dropped her petition for disolution of marriage, but, was planning on re-filing in 2009.

Renee, a nurse and trained medical professional and loving mother would never, never leave her children. Shortly after she vanished her cell phone was found.

Her husband, Shon Andrew Pernice did not call the police and report her missing. Huge Red Flag #1. It was her father who contacted authorities. The time line of her vanishing act is inconsistant.

Surprise, Suprise, the fireman has lawyered up and is not talking.

Police went to the marital home with a search warrant on Friday. Although no one has been arrested, it is my professional opinion, I suspect the fireman will be charged in the murder of Renee Pernice in the near future.

Words do not seem adequate when a husband and father removes and erases the life of their wife and mother of 3 children, forever.

Another casuality of war on spousal related perpetrated murder is an epidemic. Now, more than ever, a battle plan for survival is the only way out for these women.

Drew Peterson's Interview-No Laughing Matter

Drew Peterson gave a rather unique interview to a WBBM Radio station in Chicago today.

No surprise, Peterson says a few times in the interview, his new bed warmer Christina Raines is a victim of prior abusive relationships.

Let's not forget, Stacy Peterson's body has yet to be recovered. Anyone with any information is asked to call the number under the flyer. Maybe this spring, Illinois police will go to the Dresden locks near 135th street and send divers into that area and search again.

Stacy Peterson Book:"Recipe For Hope"

Drew Peterson continues to catch the attention of the media and maybe all his on air experience will land him a job as the new spokesperson or press agent to inmates when he moves to his new home.

One minute Peterson claims his children's mother ran off with a man, the next he is all over Internet dating sites looking for women, like a used car salesman. And now, this cowardly dickless wonder, is engaged, with the girfriend and her two small children living in a crime scene!

Have you had about enough of this constant barrage of disrespect for the women and murdered mother(s) of his 4 children? Are you interested in doing something about this bozo and his camp of marshmallow roasters?

There is a group of business professionals, media and violence awareness groups who have joined together bringing dignity and respect for Stacy Peterson and Kathleen Savio. Sadly, both these women did not stand a chance against in my opinion, as an expert in the area of police perpetrated-domestic homicide. This newly formed entity will raise money to bolster the efforts of numerous domestic violence organizations. How you ask? It's called "Receipe For Hope".

This is no plain, ordinary cookbook. But, a cookbook with recipes along with safety tips for women caught in this cycle of abuse. Here's how you can help.

Are you a survivor of an abusive relationship? Do you assist a friend or a relative in leaving their violent environment, safely? How about contributing your safety tips for the book? You can save someone's life. Or in memory of someone who was murdered, what tip can you offer in their memory? Participation for the cookbook is easy. All you need is a computer to enter.

Write out your favorite recipe, add your name and city, if you like, and email it to: recipesforstacy@gmail.com Oh! One more thing!!...Please, please include any safety tips for that someone you know who is looking to safely get out of the cycle of abuse! These valuable tips will be included in the cookbook in recipe form.....sort of like 1oz. of prevention, 1C safety, stir in a pinch of caution and don't let it boil over!

All of the printing costs have been generously donated this project and ALL proceeds will go to organization's provding safety and direction for those in violent relationships!

Badges and Bloodshed

On Monday, a seasoned high ranking law enforcement officer with the New York City Police department, stabbed his wife , then took his service revolver from his holster, shot her and then himself, all before the couple's 18-year old daughter.

The daughter who was in the home at the time of the shooting, will recount and live this tragedy over and over, for the rest of her life. This is a club, no longer a private matter, whose membership is growing among law enforcement families. And it is a crime, that in my opinion can be prevented in some situations when a department learns the officer is divorcing or ending a relationship.

Police departments must begin creating and implementing basic services for their officers. These services must also include the safety of spouses in police-perpetrated domestic violence.

I have said this before, you train a police officer to protect the streets. They are issued a gun and a badge. The spouses are ignorned, left all alone with trained officers ,when an arugement or a relationship is ending. A spouse is helpless to seek any type of assistance or direction to protect she and the children. A spouse is unable to contact anyone in the department where the officer is stationed and ask for assistance. A spouse cannot file charges against her officer husband after an explosive episode, as she risks losing her life.

As an author, safety strategist and lecturer in the area of family violence within an officers family, I know first-hand, the life threatening issues associated within an officers home when violence erupts.

The time has come to put an end to the bloodshed, one and for all.

Woman Brings Children into a Blood Chilling True Crime Horror

Christina Raines

While the weather in Illinois is headed for below zero blood chilling temperatures, seems like my favorite yet to be arrested Drew Peterson has a new bed warmer. The 24-year moved into the Peterson home along with her 2 children.

Where is the father of her children? Does anyone know who the father is? Does this young woman have family?

It's obvious this is not a healthy environment for 2 kids swept into an unheathly environment by a woman who clearly is not playing with the porch light on, living with a man suspected of murder.

NBC Chicago did balance the piece with Stacy Peterson's sister on camera, Cassandra Cales .

The grand jury has resumed in this case and hopefully an arrest is on the horizon.

I guess this also means Peterson is no longer searching on those Internet dating sites we found him on recently.

NBC News Chicago: Singing the Praises of Drew Peterson?

NBC 5 News Chicago is broadcasting a "Day in the life of "Drew Peterson tonight on their news broadcast.

Maybe I under estimated the news worthy potential, filming a cowardly dickless wonder as he parades or floates across a room in the kitchen or bathroom cleaning toilet bowels or operating a vacuum cleaner in a home where a crime was likely committed. And a mother's life, erased.

So what can we expect to see from this high profile suspect and abuser? It's likely he will appear preparing his children's meals, doing domestic duty around the house, folding laundry, making beds, oh and smiling for the camera as he says "this is just an average day". Maybe we will get a glimse of the 23-year-old ( who needs a psych evaulation) to whom Peterson is engaged.

If NBC wants to do a "news" piece why not report on an investigation into the lives/deaths of Kathleen Savio and Stacy Peterson. How about interviewing Harry Smith the lawyer who represented Kathleen in her divorce and also met with Stacy to seek legal advice just days before her vanishing act in leaving Peterson. Or visiting the Will County States Attorney and doing a story on how the legal system failed both of these women, and what their office is doing differently. Or Illinois State Police and how they may have missed important evidence in the home during their search for evidence.

Parading this sick cowardly cop, a murder suspect, just feeds not only Peterson's sick abusive pattern but, others who are as I write this, plotting and planning to murder their wives and girlfriends all in the name of getting away with murder.

Everyone who read this needs to send an email of outrage to the reporter rob.stafford@nbcuni.com Or head over to the Drew Peterson blog where they list the direct cell phone number of the reporter here.

The man in charge is Larry Wert his email is larry.wert@nbcuni.com

Church Sending Wrong Message To Victims of Abuse?

A few days ago a teaching Pastor Tom Holladay who is with Rick Warren's Saddleback Church publicized their views on domestic violence and marriage. It goes on to say the Bible only condones 2 reasons for divorce-adultery and abandonment.

Upon reading this my first thoughts were of Drew Peterson who clearly committed adultery during his 4 marriages and now is claiming that Stacy Peterson abandoned him so he will be seeking a divorce, because he's engaged. My guess is the next press release from his legal team of Marsmallow Roasters will include quotes from the Saddleback Church as sort of a right of passage to marry a fifth time. But first, he will have to have the title of "Suspect" removed from the Will County State's Attorney's office which is not happening anytime soon. Nor is marriage #5 in his future, unless of course it's behind a metal structure.

Back to the point. I respect everyone's opinion, but when a man of God interprets the lives of those who are likely to be killed and basically says to separate or leave, that is dangerous. Those who leave their violent relationships are more likely to be murdered when they leave their abusers. I am talking about women who are threatened with their lives by abusers on a daily basis. And when they leave, we read about on the Internet or with our morning coffee.

Women like my mother, murdered by my father. Or the thousands of others, vanished, murdered, buried, hidden by those who profess to love them. Women must have a clear plan that includes safety minus any guilt from religious organizations when they leave with their lives in one piece.

[Colossians 3:19] says.. 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Divorce, is a premature terminating of a marriage, always involves sin of some kind, on the part of one and sometimes on the part of both marital partners. Each situation needs to be examined on its own. The two reasons that give a wronged spouse the freedom to declare a marriage over (publicly and legally) after a guilty partner has basically ended the marriage are (1) marital unfaithfulness and (2) malicious desertion. By "malicious" we mean a willful, unilateral, and permanent desertion.

Consider the following scenario: Suppose a husband physically abuses his wife. He has been encouraged to get help for his sinful behavior. Yet nothing changes and he continues to abuse or threaten to murder his wife and children. It may get to the point where she might divorce her husband, but in doing so she is not the one who violated the marriage bond. He did so through his sinful actions. This example does illustrate the biblical principle that when someone has violated the marriage bond through unfaithfulness or malicious desertion, the "innocent" party may obtain a divorce and not be guilty of violating God's guidelines regarding marriage and divorce.

If any man sins against you and beats you, you have no obligation to stay and allow him to continue to sin. So you would obey God and not stay and allow him to sin. You would leave and divorce him.
Here is a synopsis from Saddleback Church: "The Bible does not permit a woman to divorce a spouse who is abusing her."

In audio clips on his Saddleback Church website, the Purpose Driven
Life author says the Bible condones divorce for only two reasons --
adultery and abandonment.

"I wish there were a third in Scripture, having been involved as a
pastor with situations of abuse," Warren said. "There is something in
me that wishes there were a Bible verse that says, 'If they abuse you
in this-and-such kind of way, then you have a right to leave them.'"

Warren said his church's counseling ministry advises separation and
counseling instead of divorce in abusive marriages, because it's the
only path toward healing. "There's an abusive cycle that's been set
up," he said. "Separation combined with counseling has been proven to
provide healing in people's lives."

In the bible, John 3:16 says: for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten so, that whosoever believeth in him shall have ever lasting life. This is the most important verse in the entire bible. If you are a believer, and have accepted Christ into your heart, the kingdom of God awaits you.

And if you are in an abusive relationship, carefully plan, and get out. And remember, God will be with you, always !

Bloody Begining For 2009

We begin the New Year with many casualities in the silent epidemic of domestic violence. We can't ignore the facts. These tragedies are not isolated incidents. There are others I did not list because police have not officially determined the cause of death. If you believe this is not your problem, you are incorrect. When the police respond to a call for help or a crime scene who do you think pays for those visits? You Do as a taxpayer. When fire, rescue squards and swat teams respond to a sitation, We Pay For That, Too! Until we begin as a nation to see this a real crime, expect the death toll to rise. If you are a church member consider asking your church to start an awareness program. Go to a city council meeting and ask if information can be sent to households in the community on how to be safe in an abusive environment. Check with the local school board in your area and ask if there are programs for teen domestic violence and perhaps a parent outreach. We all have a voice when it involves prevention, lets use it!

A tragic discovery over the weekend began with 3 children ages 2,4 & 8 knocking on a neighbors doors asking for something to eat. The oldest informed the neighboor his "Mom's legs were covered in blood." Another child, just 9 months old, screeming from behind a locked bedroom door. The children had been in the apartment for approximately 3 days. Upon entering the apartment, the neighbor was hit with the foul stench of death. The baby continued to scream. The door was locked. he kicked it in to find the baby covered in blood and badly soiled.

The bodies of Hannah Crowe 26 and Julian Wallulatum 21were discovered Saturday after the older children asked a neighbor to help.
In North Carolina on New Years day-- Officials say a standoff with a man believed to have killed his ex-wife and two other women in western North Carolina ended when the man killed himself early Friday morning.
Buncombe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Ross Dillingham said that Richard Heatwole killed his ex-wife, Angela Heatwole. The other victims were Divina Gracia Agulto, 44, who is believed to have rented a room from Richard Heatwole; and Lesley Curtis Moore Keogh, 43, who was found dead on the porch of her home . Then the serial killer abducted his two children ages 6 and 10. When the Swat team arrived Richard Heatwole was holding his two children hostage. Thank God he did not harm them. During the standoff, he took his own life. The children were found safe.
In California on New Years day, Investigators found the bodies of Gabriela Galvan, 33, and her 50-year-old live-in boyfriend, Lino Farias, in El Cajon.
Neighbors say the couple appeared to have a good relationship and can't believe this happened. James Christman says the couple only moved in a few months ago.
In Monteal Canada a Father and Mother of 3 small children ,who had lost their jobs decide to kill their children and then themselves in a suicide pack. The mother survives. Her three children and husband are dead. Police charge her in their murders.
In Arizona, a man murdered a woman and then committed suicide.
In Indiana an angry husband guns down his estranged wife in an apparent murder-suicide that happened in broad daylight with children present. The man drove his vehicle into his estranged wife's vehicle on a street before shooting her about 11:30 a.m. Monday. Police responding to the scene found 37-year-old Ella Minix dead in her vehicle and her husband, 40-year-old Jonathan Minix, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in his vehicle a short distance away. Police say the Winamac couple were recently separated. Hines says two children, ages 10 and 13, also were in the woman's car but neither one was injured.

Georgia's New Sex Offender Law

ATLANTA (AP Newswires) -"Privacy advocates are questioning an aggressive Georgia law that went into effect on 1/1/2009, that would require sex offenders to hand over Internet passwords, screen names and e-mail addresses.

Georgia joins a small band of states complying with guidelines in a 2006 federal law requiring authorities to track Internet addresses of sex offenders, but it is among the first to take the extra step of forcing its 16,000 offenders to turn in their passwords as well."

Will the higher courts rule this new law unconstitutional? Lets hope not. Laws only go so far. It's also up to the parents who children go on a computer without proper monitoring.

Attempting to keep the Internet safe or children is like trying to create a safe play zone on the LosAngeles freeway. It is impossible.

The internet is too large, ever growing, ever changing with more and more regulations this will merely force the sexual predators to be more clever.

The only way to keep children safe while on the Internet is for parents to oversee what their child is doing. A careful, ever vigilant parent is the best form of protection any child can have.

And perhaps pre-ordering a copy of LA Prosecutor Robin Sax's new book.

Troopers Wife Didn't Stand a Chance

In Marblehead, New York, 49-year old Isol Cotto took steps to end her abusive relationship with her abusive husband, a 53 year- old retired cop.

William Cotto was angered by his wife's actions. She filed charges with police and a court order of protection against him on 12/30/08. Police were ordered to confiscate all his weapons and Cotto posted a measly $500 bond and walked free.

Cotto was angry because his wife, Isol wanted a divorce.

The next day, New Year's eve morning, William Cotto shot his wife in cold blood before taking his own life.

We can make up all kinds of excuses to describe this cowards actions. Some will say he was depressed. Others who knew him or were related to this bozo will point to his loving devotion and kindness. Or we will hear about how he wasn't himself, it was an unfortunate tragedy and may he rest in peace.

Very few will say the words "cold blooded killer". Or use a term such as "coward" to describe this person's actions.
Isol Cotto's murder should have more importance than to be packaged neatly as another murder suicide. Killed by a man who planned her death, because she had the courage to say no more. She was not going to continue being a victim. And for approximately twenty-four hours, she was on her way to becomming a success survivor.

But, men like William Cotto, still allowed special advantages because he was in law enforcement was not going to allow his wife to have the last word. In his eyes, she embarrassed and disgraced him when Isol Cotto filed charges and secured an order of protection. Which in this case as in most is nothing more than a legal paper trail with the court system.
The system failed Isol Cotto. First, the police for not going that extra mile in securing her safety.

Secondly, the judge for such a low bail amount of $500.

Third, additional weapons owned by Cotto were not surrendered to police. He probably told them he was going to use the shotgun and go hunting. Or perhaps they did not think it was that important to investigate further.
When law enforcement and the legal system respond to a police officers wife for assistance, they are in over their heads.

Procedures when dealing with officer related crimes must change. Services for families must be developed and implemented for officers wives and children.

Women have less than a chance to move forward in their lives, with their lives when married to anyone in law enforcement.

You train officers to serve and protect both large and small communities across the county.

How about government acknowledging the dangers of being married to trained killers?
At least provide a special door for an officers wife to enter, so she can at the very least, have a fighting chance to survive.
