Heather Malloy :Sloppy Investigative Tools: " The Vanishing"

On April 11, 2008, we featured Heather Malloy on this blog, including the fact she was granted a Court Order of Protection.

Her husband Brian, indicated she vanished. Why is it that eleven weeks later, Portland Police are just now, investigating this case and searching the marital home for clues?

Police Departments of late have shown the inability to look first at the obvious. Especially, when these women are married or involved with someone and suddenly, "Vanish". The first order of business by all Law Enforcement Agencies across the Country is to check their data bases to see if there was ever an order of protection issued. Or if the couple is going through a divorce.

More importantly, we are seeing a trend in the vanishing and missing cases, they are not properly investigated within a time frame likely to produce an arrest in their cases. Or because "too much" time has passed important evidence has vanished with its' victims.

Maureen Weaver's Murder and the Media

Maureen Weaver died last Thursday in San Diego. Her son Tyler turns ten years old this weekend and the birthday party his mother was planning has been canceled. His birthday celebration has been replaced with attending his Mother's funeral.

Maureen was found dead in the driveway of her home. The crime scene was so gruesome a news chopper captured the tragedy from a distance. Authorities immediately placed Tyler Weaver into protective custody.

Tyler was only two years old when his parents divorced. Frank Weaver was said to have a violent temper. And he had a drinking problem. Just two years before they divorced Maureen filed a police report against Frank for attacking her in their home. Frank was placed on probation for the assault.

When the news broke in San Diego of her death, folks on the Internet speculated and wrote less than favorable remarks regarding the crime when it was mentioned that her ex-husband was a possible suspect. Just shows the public's lack of awareness and understanding of these types of crime.

Yesterday, good old Frank was arrested in Idaho and taken into custody by police.

Did Frank Weaver murder his former wife and mother of his child Maureen Weaver?
Yes, he most certainly did.

Is it necessary for photo's of the Maureen Weaver murder scene to be posted on the Internet? What purpose does it serve the community and loved ones left behind to display such bloody graphic pictures?

Do those individuals who put them up on their Internet news media forum have children?

How would they feel if they were a crime victim knowing their ten year old son will soon discover bloody photo's of the most important person in this child's life, his mother.

If you want to properly cover the real stories behind the crimes women endure across the country three hundred and sixty five-days a year by those they loved or once loved. Head on over to the criminal courts building. Any city in any state will do. Report on the real stories and how often their cries for assistance fall on deaf ear, repeatedly. Or consider doing an in depth behind the scenes investigation on what a victim of violence must do in order to remain safe and alive.

And cover those lives who are not far themselves from taking a trip on a medical examiners gurney into the county morgue.

Pictures of this particular crime need to be removed over at the abc news site in San Diego.

Showing respect, especially during this time, is the very least you can do.

Drew Peterson: Day #208

The circus performers continue their stunts as the Drew Peterson investigation drags on into day number 208 (two-hundred and eight) .

Have the Illinois State Police suspended their water search for Stacy, yes. Family and friends continue to look for her themselves. Armed with a new boat as they comb the waters.

There may be a solution in their search if proper equipment can be brought in to scan the waters. Northwestern University's Robert R. McCormick school of engineering and technology may have the tools to search the waters with tomography scanning and taking x-rays at the bottom of the river. The time line also continues to be filled with holes. So here is my opinion, a version of what I believe may have happened:

Oct. 26, 2007 - Stacy Peterson allegedly tells Drew Peterson she wants a divorce, after meeting attorney Harry Smith. Mr. Smith is the same lawyer who represented Kathleen Savio in her divorce.

Oct. 27 6:30 -P.M.-11:30 p.m. -Dinner at Drew's House. The air is tense when Drew stops in to have dinner with the family. Drew goes back to work and Cassandra Cales leaves her sister Stacy Peterson’s home with plans to meet at 10 a.m. the next morning to help paint a house

Oct. 28 9:40 a.m. - Peterson neighbor leaves her home to go to the grocery store and notes seeing both of the Peterson’s vehicle in their driveway.

10:15 a.m. - A friend calls Stacy Peterson about painting the house that day. Peterson, still in bed, says she will meet to paint the house later.Stacy is still alive the kids hear arguing between Stacy and Drew. There is a possibility by accident, while still in bed Stacy, hits her head during the fight or Drew has grabbed her by her neck. Her neck snaps , Stacy dies. Drew carries Stacy into the connecting bathroom of their bedroom and closes the door. He has to think quickly. The kids don't have a reason to question anything and resume their activities.

11:15 a.m. - Neighbor returns from the grocery store and says she saw only one of the vehicles in Peterson’s driveway.Noon-Neighbor calls next door to see if the Peterson children want to come over for suckers. She asks for Stacy when one of the children answers the phone and Drew Peterson tells her his wife went to visit her grandfather.

1 p.m. Drew Peterson brings the children over to Neighbors home and tells her he has an errand to run. He returns in about 15 minutes.

1:40 P.M. Drew is in the garage with the door shut. Kids are playing in the house. He carries a blue cooler container into their bedroom while instructing the boys to watch the little ones. He locks the door. At this point who knows, besides the possibility of Stacy's body what else could have been placed into the cooler/container.

5:00 P.M. Drew calls in to Bollingbrook police station and takes the day off.

5:30-6 P.M. Drew goes about his routine and prepare dinner for the kids.

7:45 P.M. Thomas Morphey is with Drew having coffee.
Stacy's phone rings around 9:00 p.m. and Drew instructs him not to answer the telephone.

9:45- 10 P.M. Drew Peterson and Thomas Morphey go into the house to the upstairs bedroom. The container is in the bathroom and the two men carry it downstairs to the back of Drew's car and load the cooler type container into the car.On the way to his destination he stops at a gas station and fills up the car with gas.Around

10:30 P.M. Drew arrives to 135th street.
He opens the bed of the truck and removes the container is Thomas Morhey with him, watching it until it goes into the river?

11 p.m. Cales goes to Peterson’s home and does not see either vehicle in the driveway. One of Peterson’s children opens the door and tells Cales that he is home alone with his three siblings and that Stacy and Drew had gotten into a fight. He said Stacy Peterson had left the house and Drew went out to look for her.

11:15 p.m. - Cales calls Drew Peterson and asks for Stacy. Cales hears shuffling and keys going into the ignition. Peterson tells Cales he’s at home and had been out looking for his wife.

Oct. 29 1 a.m. - Cales goes to the Bolingbrook Police Department to file a missing persons report.

2:30 a.m. - Cales returns to Peterson’s home and sees both cars in the driveway. Cales’ friend calls Drew Peterson and asks him where Stacy is at. Peterson said his wife left him, took money and left her car at Clow International Airport.

4 a.m. - Cales files a missing persons report with Illinois State Police.

Find The Missing is Missing Vital Resources

When a family member goes missing, that person's entire world stops. There are few resources available during this time of crisis where family can post information in addition to contacting the authories. The site is http://www.helpfindthemissing.org/ and they do a fantastic job at posting a loved immediately on their site. It is also a place where those in the same situation can share and gain support through an interactive information and discussion board.

As a web based information and awareness organization they depend on contributions.

Example, they could use the services of officer and investigators either on the job or retired in donating their time to families in locating missing loved ones . Graphic artists and printing companies who can quickly make flyers with information. Public Relations professionals who can assist with media in their area when a person has been reported.

And while these dedicated folks do it from the heart, these resources are important in the success of finding missing persons. . I am asking over the holiday weekend that people consider donating your time and professional services. It is fairly simple, just register on the site and contact the administrator . On a daily basis, you are able to spend time with your loved ones. That in and of itself is a reason to celebrate while helping others in their time of need.

Below are tips should someone in your community go missing. Consider posting this information in your children's school, your local church, place of employment or on a blog.

What you can do.....Contact local law enforcementSome law enforcement agencies are reluctant to take a report of a missing adult. Stress that you are not trying to control your child’s life but that YOU ARE TRULY CONCERNED FOR HIS/HER SAFETY.
Write down the name of the officer who takes the report as well as the badge number, telephone number and the police report number.
Find out from the officer who will follow up on the initial investigation.
Keep a notebook and record all information on the investigation.
Be sure to ask if your child is entered into NCIC (National Crime Information Computer). The child must be entered here or other law enforcement agencies won’t know that your child has been reported as missing if the child is picked up or a check has been run on them for something else. (It is suggested that you view a read-out of the NCIC report. Sometimes information, such as height and/or eye color, may have been entered with the wrong data. This viewing gives you a chance to correct what might have been entered erroneously.)
Make fingerprint and dental records available to the police.
If there are medical or emotional concerns, make sure they are clearly stated when filing the report.
If a vehicle is involved, make sure the license is also entered into NCIC
Most often with adult missing, the families do the majority of the searching.
Sometimes, there is a desire to cancel a bankcard or credit card. It might be smarter to have law enforcement “flag” these cards so that if used, they will be notified, and might lead you to a paper trail of your loved one or someone who knows where your loved one is.
GET HELP FROM FRIENDS, FAMILY People want to help but they often don't know what to do. Give them tasks – don’t wait for them to ask. They can help with phone calls, completing forms, mailing flyers, reaching out to the media, making certain you take care of yourself, etc.GET FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO HELP WITH YOUR OTHER CHILDREN DURING THIS CRISIS. Your other children might be in their teens and they are experiencing the same traumatic event that you are. They may feel powerless to do anything constructive. Friends and relatives may be better able to assign them tasks so they can feel useful and helpful during the search. Watch them carefully for signs of trouble as teens have a greater tendency to internalize their feelings. CRIME VICTIM SERVICES—NATIONAL and STATEThe National Victim Center assists victims of crime by educating them about how the criminal justice system works, and providing information about grief and the healing process. Collect personal items of your child’s. Collect some articles of unwashed clothing. Put his/her toothbrush and/or comb or hairbrush in a brown paper bag. Check with the police before you do this. Some states have enacted laws that require police do this collection from all reported missing person, regardless of age of the missing.

Something as simple as a spiral notebook
Write down all the calls made and received
Whom you talk to
The agency name
The persons name and the phone number
Note the date and time and a few notes about what you discussed
It is so easy to forget the agencies and people you’ve talked to and who said what. The notebook will keep you organized and help alleviate some stress.
Flyers
Collect recent photos of your child to be used to make flyers. Full frontal photos are more desirable.
Keep track of any original photographs of your child and put them in a safe easily accessible place in your home. Have at least 20 copies of each pose made. If you do not have the negatives, copies can be made from the photographs in your possession.
Missing adult children organizations listed on the resource page will make flyers for you. However, you are able to make a flyer yourself at the following website: http://www.beyondmissing.com/
Flyers do help. It’s helpful to use a candid natural photo rather than a posed shot. This will assist people in recognizing your loved one. Make certain that these flyers are posted in the types of areas and retail establishments that your loved one would frequent. If, when requesting a flyer be posted in a retail establishment, the proprietor tells you they won’t post it, request that they put it in the back for the employees to view.
It might be helpful to add a handwritten message on the flyer directed toward your loved one, i.e., “Please call home, we miss you!” or “We need to know that you are okay.”
Provide bus stations with a flyer or picture of your child. Bus stations don’t usually keep track of the names of people on busses but employees may recognize a picture or a description.

Be sure to use an answering machine so you won’t miss a call if your child tries to reach you. Leave an outgoing message on the answering machine for your child in case they call when you are not home. It is important to try and reach out to your child so they can come home without repercussions.
Get “call waiting” on your phone if you don’t already have it. It allows you to answer any call that comes in so your line is always open.
Utilize “last call return” if available in your area for hang up calls – press *69 or the established code for your area. Contact your phone company to find out if there is a better way to track calls in your area.
INTERACTION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT
*Work as a team. Try to establish a teamwork approach with law enforcement. They need you as part of the team. Cooperation with them is essential. You can also expect law enforcement to ask some hard and difficult questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS PERSONALLY. Remember; keep focused on your goal of getting your child back.*Law enforcement contact person. Establish or have law enforcement establish a contact person (one person) within your local law enforcement agency so you are consistently and accurately informed of on-going developments in your case.*Ask for more help. Ask the FBI and/or your state crime bureau to assist in the investigation. Call the Governor of your State if need be to ask him/her for a show of support for your cause. Your Governor could also call in the National Guard to conduct a ground search.*Media Although TV seldom features missing adults, it is sometimes possible to find a sympathetic columnist with a newspaper who will cover the story and print a photo. It’s very difficult being rejected when reaching out for help. However, there’s always a chance that someone will help. Keep trying. *Contact all local media. Police may have to initiate the request, but you or your spokesperson will be responsible for maintaining contact and keeping attention focused on the abduction story. Set up a phone listing of these local media sources so that they are readily accessible to you. * Website links to media.

Disregard their speculation or unfounded rumors. You will carry more credibility if you simply stick to the facts. Focus on the family, your child, the volunteer effort and the emotional issues involved. Report to reporters’ superiors if they are not reporting accurately. Being open to the media is a big part of getting “everyone else” to know about your child. STAY POSITIVE.AWARENESS EVENTSMedia attention will generate leads. Volunteers can organize many events that will keep the story in the hearts and minds of the public.
Organize students who will distribute posters and flyers.
Appearances on radio or television talk shows by parents (radio can be done in-studio by telephone, live or taped.)
Radio stations all across the state can be asked to play your child’s favorite song or a song selected by parents, e.g., “Somewhere Out There” from “An American Tale” and have the song dedicated to the child.
Hold a rally at the child’s school with music and prayers.
Organize a benefit dance and/or auction.
Contact area sports teams to include photos and story in their programs and possibly have a P.A. announcement made at games.
Produce buttons or T-shirts with your child’s name.
Dedication of a garden or a tree to the child.
Hold a candlelight vigil indoors or outdoors.
Bowling tournaments, marathons, etc. dedicated to your child.
Contact banks or local businesses to dedicate a Christmas tree/lights to the child.
Contact radio stations offering to do a telephone interview to remind people to keep watching and looking for the child.
Have classmates do a letter writing campaign, writing to friends and families across the country telling about the missing child.
Organize a human chain linking communities school to school, house to church, etc. Radio stations can help organize the crowd. Ask sports celebrities to participate.
Public Service Announcements and appeals for help on radio and television.
Mass release of helium filled balloons imprinted with child’s name, or with information about the missing child inside.
STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLEThe continuing search
Keep hope in your heart.
Seek long-term support from Team HOPE, family and friends.
Avoid negative forces.
Continue to keep a journal.
Stay in touch with authorities.
Nurture law enforcement and media relationships.
Take care of yourself

Lilly Aramburo: Blood Stained Road Must Be Investigated By Miami Police

It is a blood stained journey on the road in the investigation of Lilly Aramburo. All pointing to the two individuals Christen Pacheo and Kelly Rae Sterling who were last with Lilly back on the night of June 2, 2007.

It is possible that by accident Christen Pacheo received a bad batch of drugs and gave them to Lilly that night. He may have panicked when he could not wake her. Then he waited after twenty-four hours to contact the police. With the body not likely to have been moved out of the area until afterwards, when it was safe.

Once the police arrived at two in the morning, a report was made by the responding officer, who had personal ties to Christen Pacheo. The report was buried along with important evidence that no doubt should have been investigated by the Miami Police Department.

Was Lilly still in the house someplace when police took the report? It is possible.

As the boyfriend, fiance', Christen Pacheo was never brought into the station and questioned. Nor was his place of residence ever searched. Had police entered the next day with a search warrant, I probably would not be writing this post.

Miami Citizens should be outraged! This could be your child or relative whose cries for simple assistance have fallen on deaf ears.

Maybe if everyone who reads this would take just a moment to email the following folks it would make the journey into this investigation more productive and those who are paid to do their jobs would finally solve a crime, long overdue!

Becca McEvoy: Justice In Limbo

The family of Becca McEvoy returns to court today in Mobile Alamaba fighting for justice for a little girl they say was raped by her police officer stepfather, Bob Ingel. Rebecca McEvoy, 11, was killed in a car crash last January.

Before she died, unexpectedly, Rebecca had been before the grand jury, testifying in hopes of seeking justice against this alleged sexual predator. According to prosecutors, a medical exam confirmed Rebecca had been raped, but Ingle's attorney is hoping a 2004 Supreme Court ruling will keep the case from ever going to trial.

Today, a Mobile County Judge is expected to decide whether a defendant can stand trial without having an opportunity to confront his accuser.

The lawyers are using the "Crawford" case out of Ohio. This says “you have the constitutional right to cross examine your accuser” and because the girl is dead and cannot testify, there is a chance the Judge may throw out the case.The Assistant District Attorney, Steven Giardini, believes the case law should not be applied in Becca McEvoy's case.

Lilly Aramburo: Life Interrupted Miami Style

The very last two people on this planet to see Lilly Aramburo alive. Kelly Rae Starling and Christen Pacheco pictured above. The photo was taken after Lilly disappeared in the apartment Lilly lived in a few shorts weeks before. Kelly Rae posted it up on her myspace page, and within a few short weeks Kelly Rae Sterling moved into the residence that Christen and Lilly shared located at 7680 SW 82 street #H 119 in Miami Florida.

Lilly Aramburo Did Not Just Vanish!

On or about June 2, 2007, Lilly Aramburo, vanished into the night. Did she vanish? In my opinion, no. Did she have a troubled past? Yes. Is that an excuse for the Miami Dade Police Department to completly ingnore a possible homicide? NO. Here is a time line of events leading up to Lilly Aramburo's tragic life. Time Line Synopsis --

September 2006-Lilly give birth to a baby boy naming him Palden;

Lilly moves in to a trailer with the baby purchased by her mother;

Lilly and longtime friend Christen Pacheco, a successful Miami Businessman and co-founder of a not-for-profit agency "Kidz Comfort Zone, Inc,", begin dating;

According to close friends and sources Christen Pacheco lures Lilly back to him with drugs, apparently tracking her down to re-supply a habit she worked so hard at stopping;

With two short months friends notice drug tracking marks on Lilly;

January 2007- Leave leaves the trailer and she and her baby move in with Christen Pacheco;

February 2007- Lilly's mother is a witness to the couples arguments;

Lilly and Christen take a trip on business to Arizona, the baby stays with Lilly's Mom;

March 2007- Police are called over several nights for domestic violence. Christen Pacheco personally knows the Miami Dade Police Department officers responding to his home, they do not make out a report; Instead that speak to Christen regarding Lilly and her child. Allegedly Christen cleverly diverts the abuse incident and implies to the Officers he is helping a recovering addict with a child;

Within a few days, Florida Department of Children's Services get involved. Lilly is brought to court. It is clear sources close to Lilly believe Christen is involved because he did not want the baby around, just Lilly.

Lilly is ordered by the courts to enter a drug rehab. She enters rehab at St. Luke's;

May 17, 2007-a blog pst about Lilly appears on my space link listed below;

May 30 , 2007- Christen Pacheco picks up Lilly from St. Luke's rehab center. He brings her to the scheduled court appointment;

Lilly is tested at the hearing. It turns out positive. She swears in court it was not possible. The Judge was very angry and informed her that unless she completed treatment she would loose custody of the child;

That afternoon, Christen does not drive her back to the rehab center. Instead, he takes her to the apartment and according to sources they do drugs.

June 1, 2007- During the day, a woman named Kelly and someone by the name of D.J. are also at Christen Pacheco's home. Later on that evening According to the friend Kelly and Christen.

Christen claims he went into the bedroom to tell Kelly to go and sleep in the livingroom so Lilly could lay down in bed.

Christen claims at 2 a.m., that is when "Lilly walked out", in her pajama's according to him without shoes and two bungee cords to pick flowers.

Lilly Aramburo A Plea For Justice

The murder/disappearance of Lilly must be investigated and solved. Yes, I said murder. I realize there is no body, yet, but she indeed, has met with foul play and in my opinion, been murdered.

We need to review important facts in this case that have no doubt escaped the Miami Dade Police Department and possibly prevented law enforcement from looking for her body.

One of the last person(S) who was with Lilly at the time is Christen Pacheco, (pictured above) and her fiance. Allegedly, Christen waited more than twenty four hours to report Lilly's disappearance. He did not even contact Lilly's mother. The couple also had a history, although undocumented, by the police who reposnded to the cries for help of domestic violence.

Lilly, just a few weeks prior had been informed by Lilly that Christen Pacheco was "a former green beret" and if anything every happens to her, Christen told Lilly she could make her disappear.

Christen Pacheco also owned a new Black Cadillac SUV. Within a few short days of Lilly's disappearance Christen stated to a friend of Lilly's his car was totaled in a wreck. Was it totaled or disposed of due to damaging evidence? Where is the police report on the accident and damage to the car? And how about the insurance company? Why did they not receive notice and a police report on the totaled SUV? Has the SUV already been taken to a junk yard and crushed?


Could the Black SUV been used to transport a body and then destroyed? In my opinion, it is a possibility.

Within a mile from where Lilly vanished is a lake. The Lake is simple enough to search, but it appears no directive has been given by the Miami Dade County police to conduct a search.

Actually, Lilly Aramburo does not appear in the Miami data base. And she has never been on an active case board within any law enforcement agency, since day number one.

A former Miami Dade Police Detective by the name of Michael Michetti has come forward to offer his assistance on the case. So far, the Miami Dade Police Department has not even responded to Mr. Michetti's inquiries.

Is a human life worth so little that an entire police force ignores family friends and most all a mother who did not deserve to have her life cut so short?

In the days ahead, we will be providing more information on this case.

The Crime Within The Crime of Lucely "Lilly" Aramburo

Looking for Lilly won't be easy, chances are she is not alive. But her two -year child and other friends and family are and they would like to find her.

As the one year anniversary of her vanishing approaches, the case has pretty much gone cold. I am hoping the Internet will revive this story and give it the attention it never received since her untimely disappearance.

According to her boyfriend, Lilly was in her pajama's and it was approximately two in the morning when she was last seen alive.

Police did a less than professional job investigating this case. They took a statement from the boyfriend And in my opinion, he should have been considered a suspect or a person or interest. Flyers and information did not hit the police beat until two months after she was reported missing.

No one at that time interviewed the father of the child. And a Web site blog written by someone who did not like (more along the lines of hate) the victim was never brought in for questioning, either.

In addition, police were called to the house numerous times because she vanished for domestic violence incidents. But, because the alleged offender knew someone on the police force a report was never filed.

Two Crimes have been committed. The first is to solve the murder of "Lilly" Aramburo. The second crime occured when police failed to investigate this case at the begining.

She could not have gone far. Lilly did not have much on in the way of clothes or shoes. And she would never just leave her then one year old son.


The family of missing 24 year old, Lucely Aramburo is asking for help.

Lucely "Lilly" Aramburo was reported missing June 2, 2007. She was last seen at her boyfriend's apartment 7680 SW 82 Street Miami, Florida. Her boyfriend, Christen Pacheco, reported that she left his apartment in pajamas at 2am to pick flowers. She left without her purse and without her cell phone. She has not been seen since. Lucely "Lilly" Aramburo is a Hispanic female, with olive complexion, 24 years old. She has long straight dark hair. She is 4'11, hazel eyes, 100 pounds. She has a scar on her left hand. Criminal Factors in Family Violence Crime

Amanda Groves had separated from her husband last summer. In her early thirties, the marriage just was not working. Amanda claims there was no abuse. Her husband did not exhibit the signs we see or read about in the aftermath of an abusive relationship. Amanda did not anticipate her husband Billy would threaten and stalk her after he moved out of the home. But he did. With each day they were apart, he became increasingly angry and abusive. After Billy damaged her car, she went to court to obtain an order of protection believing it would make Billy stop his threatening and abusive behavior. Amanda did not have a plan. She did not think it would escalate further. She, like thousands of others in this country who separate, divorce or end a dating relationship often do not have a strategy for their own safety. The criminal mind with these offenders is a reactive reflex to loss of power and control in their lives.

Anytime when someone is rejected and hurt in a relationship, that individual will do anything to reclaim their life. Including murder. Within a short amount of time, Billy was planning out the murder of Amanda. It is more than "If I cannot have her no one can". It is a criminal element within their mind taking the relationship and ending it forever on their terms.

We do not associate the criminal path abusers take in relationships where the parties are involved with one another, because they are known to one another. Quickly, society and law enforcement places it in the neat easy category of "domestic violence". Often treating the crime from the onset with less importance. Herein lies the problem for victims who are often left to fight the abuser and the system at the same time, all alone.

On the morning of September 29, 2007, as Amanda was returning home, Billy was waiting for Amanda in the home the couple once shared.
"The only thing I could remember was all the flashing from the gun," Amanda said.
"(Billy Groves had) no violent behavior -- (he) never treated me wrongly," Amanda said.
According to Groves, she never feared her husband until they separated.
"The arguments started getting worse," Groves said. "A lot of things between us were very nasty. It was a side of him that I had never seen before. That's when the stalking started."
"(He was) walking up and down my street," Groves said. "He always would just so happen to be somewhere on my way to work -- the gas station, the bank -- somewhere conveniently in my path."
The stalking turned physical when their paths crossed in a park in early August. According to Groves, Billy followed her and a friend to the park and beat them up.
"That's when I got the protection order," Groves said. "The prosecutor didn't feel that they should press charges at that point. (I) don't understand that."
After that, she said that Billy Groves made his presence known every day.
According to a civil protection order granted on Aug. 13, Billy Groves was ordered to not come within 500 feet of his wife. Just over a month later, he violated every stipulation of the order.
"As soon as I pushed the door open, he started firing," She said. "I (turned) to run. The first shot hit me in the doorway of my house."
The bullet entered Amanda's back. It just missed her spine and severed her liver into two pieces. She made it to her driveway before falling to the ground. Amanda said that she played dead and waited for the shooting to stop.
"He did kick me repeatedly in the face while I was in the driveway before he ran back in the house," according to Amanda.
More gunshots followed and then there was silence
Police found Billy Groves in the house. He was dead, with a semiautomatic weapon in his hand.
After spending four of six weeks in the hospital with a coma and multiple surgeries to repair her liver, Amanda Groves learned that Billy killed himself.
According to Amanda, Billy Groves made a videotape the night of the shootings. She described him as acting calm while mentioning he was going to shoot and kill her.
"He said he was doing what she thought, in his heart, was right," Amanda Groves said.
She wonders whether things would have changed if Billy were arrested after the incident that took place in the park.
"I did everything I was supposed to do," Groves said. "The protection order did nothing but give me a false sense of security."

Now that she is back to work, Amanda is trying to put the terror behind her. Even in surviving, there are challenges. Amanda Groves lost her house because she could not work and victims' assistance was not enough. She is soon going to have another surgery.

Self Defense: Protecting Yourself Against Violence or Abuse

Whether you are involved in a violent relationship or are the victim of a random attack, it’s important for you to know how to protect yourself; how to get out of that situation as quickly as possible.

Martial arts expert Jose Fernandez of the YWCA Capital Dojo leads self defense training classes for men and women, and teaches you tips on how to make some quick and smart moves in an emergency situation.

Fernandez suggests first off, enrolling in a self defense class, in order to become accustomed to reacting to violence. Most people immediately freeze when they are attacked, but taking self defense sessions repeatedly will help you be prepared to make split second decisions. Besides self defense class, he recommends a few things for you to think about that can help you defuse a violent situation.

Try to remain calm and speak in a softer, even tone.
Keep your hands up, try not to tense up.
Maintain eye contact and keep them busy with your voice
With a rise in dating violence, he offers a few tips to protect yourself
Take your time in getting to know the person better
Avoid being alone with the person in the beginning, plan your dates in crowded places.
Get to know their friends, introduce them to your friends.
If you are alone with the person, avoid alcohol.

Proposed Illinois Bill Will Do Nothing For Victims

On April 6, 2008, Mercedes McCauley was gunned down as she was leaving church by her estranged boyfriend Glenn Martinez.

Mercedes had secured an order of protection back in November of 2007, and she was scheduled to return back in court in April before a Judge.

Glenn Martinez was a class-x- felon and on parole for an unrelated crime that involved murder. Automatically, criminals are denied any type of bond.

I spent years in courtroom advocating for battered woman and securing court orders that included a safety plan once the order by a judge was in place. Often, it was our domestic violence agency who provided the groundwork and had the individual on parole sent back to prison.

Automatically, common sense really, I would contact the parole agent, speak to the State's Attorney on the case and the Offender would be sent back to do the remainder of their prison sentence. In addition, more time would be added at a later date during a scheduled court hearing on the violation.

In today's article in both the Chicago newspapers, headline read "Bill would tighten State's Leash on Parolees". Hogwash! If people were doing their jobs in the first place, women such as Mercedes McCauley would be alive, today. It was pure ignorance in court the day Mercedes secured that court order. The State's Attorney is suppose to read to the Judge the Offenders criminal history and the fact that person is on parole at the order of protection hearing. It never happened.

The court docket that day was on overload as it is most days with victims just like Mercedes jumping through hoops just to obtain an order of protection. And no doubt court staff were too busy.

The new bill proposed says "parolees must notify their
parole agents within 24 hours of receiving a restraining order"

That is not going to happen. You cannot leave that up to the parolee. They will likely kill their victim before "alerting" a parole agent who is already overloaded with cases. And who is going to allow a victim to send them back to prison? The State's Attorney must be the one to notify the parole agent immediately. The victim must be instructed at the time of making a police report to inform the officer the offender is on parole. Then the offender is returned back to prison.

This new Bill is ignorant to the obvious solution to a growing problem within courts across the country as it pertains to court orders of protection.

A child by the name of Becca McEvoy, allegedly raped by her police officer father, Robert Ingel. Tragically, while the grand jury hearings were happening Becca died in a car crash.

Becca had previously testified before the grand jury. There are medical records, statements and other documents that speak to the horrific crimes for which Mr. Ingel faces against this helpless child.

Now, Bob Ingels lawyers are once again attempting to interrupt justice in this case. They have asked a judge to put a gag order in place prohibiting others from speaking to the media while they await a decision in whether or not the case can be thrown out because the victim is dead.

You see, there is a little unknown law that says an offender has the right to face his accuser. Ingels lawyer's have asked the court to dismiss this case based the"Crawford" a Supreme Court case. The judge is expected to rule on May 20, 2008.In this case justice for Rebecca has already been interrupted. Bob Ingel remain's free on bond with the possibility of regaining employment in law enforcement and continuing his sexual activities with other minor children.

As the daughter of a violent predator who also happened to be in law enforcement, justice must be served in this case.

The number of professional experts advocating and following this case will not be silenced.

Defense Wants Gag Order In Child RapeJessica Taloney ReporterA judge is considering a motion to silence the family of an eleven year old girl, who they say was raped by her stepfather.Defense attorney Michael Harbin says pre-trial publicity will prevent his client, Bob Ingle, from getting a fair trial.Ingle, a former Chickasaw Police officer, is accused of raping Rebecca McEvoy for more than a year before she was killed in a car crash last January.Harbin specifically named WKRG in his argument, saying "only one side is getting out," but Harbin declined to do an interview. During an April 2nd hearing, Harbin and Ingle both entered and exited the courtroom through a backdoor, avoiding the media. Since her death, Rebecca's family has fought to make sure her case goes to trial despite defense argumentsthat Ingle has a right to confront his accuser."We are sitting here trying to defend our little cousin," said Rhonda Wheelus, who was in court for Monday's hearing. Drew Peterson: The Classic Offender in Blue

Drew Peterson in my opinion, fits the profile of a classic and Dangerous Offender in Blue.

He is an attention seeker, both in public and private.

If his life seems unbelievable and exhausting, that is because he thrives on it.

The streets were his life and playground. He made it his business to learn and do his job better than most cops. He was a big fish in a small pond. It was all part of his plan.

He is a man who controls every aspect of his home life down to what brand of coffee is brought into his home.

He keeps close tabs on household spending.

He is a very giving person as long as you do as you are told, you are given the world.

The moment a woman in his life no longer provides "intimacy on demand", he begins to question their loyalty to the relationship. He stays out after shift and does not explain his whereabouts when questioned. When asked where he was or why he didn't come straight home, he responds with an all knowing cold stare. His way of punishing his woman for not being submissive enough.

When anyone in his life begins to make him unhappy by "complaining " about anything or perhaps changes they would like to see, he become's angry with them. Over time, loosing his patience and resorts to using threats and physical force.

As a dangerous "offender in blue abuser" they dread being abandoned by women. It is seen as weak and unforgiving.

Drew Peterson was likely to have known that Stacy had begun making plans to divorce him, since she had gone to the same attorney wife #3 Kathleen Savio sought in her divorce. And she disclosed her unhappiness and fears to family and a neighbor. Stacy secured a cell phone without Drew's knowledge. In the world of an "Offender in Blue", that is the worst thing anyone could do.

Stalking is also a characteristic of an "Offender in Blue", as well. From wife #2 Vicki Connely, the girlfriend, Kathleen and then Stacy. Four women that we know of, all making the exact same statements.

Offender's in Blue, either currently on the job or retired from the force, are masters at escaping detection. But, four women at different times in this Offender's life had nothing to gain in their attempts to leave this environment, other than be free from the abuse.

So while we are continuing to watch this man, who at one time held the public's trust we must remember, he is first and foremost, a classic, and dangerous offender of the worst kind.

Police Officer Looses Life in Family Violence War

As I write this, Police Officer Caran Renee Coward, Livingston, Texas, is being laid to rest.

The story is a yet another tragedy, of a 39- year old woman, mother of three small children in the midst of a divorce. While on duty she received a call from her estranged husband. Caran was killed with a shotgun. The husband then took his own life. Leaving behind three children, in the home at the time of the murder/suicide.

This tragedy goes beyond the murder, affecting the children in ways beyond imagination. Their young lives abruptly halted in time on the night of April 26, 2008. The children for many years to come, will recall every detail in the last moments of their parents lives, up to the very second when the shotgun fired off it's deadly blast.

Their roads in life will not be easy as they too must carry the burden. How do children from these types of tragedies survive? On day at time. At first, they will be numb. With each new day is the realization they are gone. They will try to go to school and continue a normal routinue. But, they will have daily obstacles in their paths.

I still have difficulty with these cases. It often brings back feelings and thoughts I want to believe are buried back to a place and time I would soon rather forget.

For these children, they have lost their country. A place taken away by family war. A place they can never physically return too, because it no longer exists.

This is not like the flu or a bad cold that in time will cure itself. Their lives will be filled with years of hurt, anger, depression and questions unanswered.

It will take a team of family and professionals to assist them as they brave this new world, alone.

Drew Peterson: Caution Lane Change Ahead

By the time you read this, one hundred and eighty- three days will have passed since Stacy Peterson, vanished.

It appears that Mr. Peterson, is offering a reward of sorts. Like a dog who eats their own vomit. He is "throwing up" this unusual amount of money. The same amount he "claims" she took when leaving in her red bikini back in October of 2007.

The Peterson camp announced a $25,000.00 (twenty five-thousand dollar) reward for the safe return of Stacy Peterson? Note the words "safe return", how clever. Drew Peterson knows all to well if wife number four turns up it will not be alive. Therefore, no reward would be paid out by Mr. Peterson or anyone else.

In my opinion, you would think that a man who goes on national television begging for the first ambulance driver, with a law license, who shows up at his doorstep, would have offered a reward the moment the mother of his children vanished.

The Peterson Camp's fifteen moments of fame, just changed lanes. Or in this case, camp fire locations.
